Matthew 24

I have made it to Matthew 24 I have been reading on Biblehub.com side by side the Berean Study Bible and the King James. I have come across some verses I thank I understand and some I am lost as lost can be I have spent the last day and a half on this and going back and forth between Matthew 24, Mark 13 & Luke 21.Luke 21 might be the same message but different time because of some of the differences.

From the Berean study bible

Verse 5. For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.

King James

Verse 5. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

They both say the same thing

My question is just who is this many? From reading Mark 13 & Luke 21 I get the idea these are Preachers, teachers, with there own doctrine come over here, no come over to my church. Why else would we have 10-20 churches in town some get 25 people some get 250+ people and why don't you see them getti8ng together to work on helping people in the community

Berean study bible

Verse 9. Then they will deliver you over to be persecuted and killed, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name.

King James

Verse 9, Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

I know that all of this has been gong on for along time John the Baptist was beheaded. There were those before hi and after him. Here again Luke 21 has a different take. Luke took 5 verses to explain this and I love his closing verses; it shows Gods love and protection for us

Berean study bible King James

Yet not even a hair of your head will perish.

18But there shall not an hair of your head perish.

19By your patient endurance you will gain your souls.

19In your patience possess ye your souls.

Luke makes it sound like you are going to come out of it OK Not a hair on your head will perish and you will possess your soul.

15. So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination of desolation,’ described by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand),

15When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

I found something interesting in Barnes' notes it referenced Matthew 4:5 It defines the Holy Place

Then the devil took Him to the holy city and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple.

5Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

I would have thought just the temple was holy but from the old testament and the new testament Jerusalem is called the Holy city. So standing in the holy place could mean in the city of Jerusalem

Spoken of by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand)

I have prayed for insight, open eyes and open ears.

Here is what I have come up with using the Strong's to define words

Danial 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

He (Satan) will be powerful and mighty.

Shall confirm the covenant with many for one week.

Satan will make an alliance with these people this is not all the people remember it said many for one week. A week in the Strong's is a period of 7days, weeks, years.

In the middle of that week “ that period of time” He Satan will stop both the sacrifice and the oblation. Best I can come up with is this is communion.

And on: Because of The overspreading The spreading of his garment.

I had to stop here and find out just what this overspreading of his garment was. This comes from Got questions. The Hebrew term can be translated either way, but the context makes the translation of “garment” more likely. The same idea is conveyed in Ezekiel 16:8 where God speaks metaphorically regarding Israel: “Later I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your naked body. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign LORD, and you became mine.” The context here notes God’s role as a husband for Israel.
The idea of matrimony appears in the context of Ruth’s story as well, both in the phrase itself and in the response of Boaz. He answers Ruth’s request by stating, “This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier: You have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor” (Ruth 3:10). Boaz understood that Ruth was asking him to take her as his wife. He blessed her for doing so, thankful she had pursued him rather than someone younger. He conveyed his attitude toward her through giving her barley as a gift and promising to get an answer to her request as soon as possible.
Do you understand just what that means. Satan marries those people that choose to follow him. Again this is not all the people there are some that don't fall for him.

He shall make it desolate.

Satan is going to make that place that city that Holy Place a wast land.

Even until the consummation,

The destruction

And the determined is poured out on him.

This is the end of the determined time.

I got to take a brake but we will find out just what happens in that determined time.

Look forward to your input

My question is just who is this many?
False teachers. 2nd Timothy is the final letter that Paul wrote, and you'll find that Timothy was sent to the church of Ephesus to eradicate the two false-renegade teachers that had overtaken the church. I'd like you to pay attention to how differently Paul addresses Timothy compared to how Paul addresses the Corinthians and the Galatians. Paul really flames the latter two. But Paul is different with Timothy . . . Paul is older and wiser and knows, finally, how to build people up instead of tearing them down. 2nd Timothy is a masterpiece of literature in building and establishing confidence in a person who is facing death, and yes, Timothy's life was a stake in this adventure. What was Timothy doing wrong? He was potentially leaving the "flock" at the risk of these two false teachers, and that means that they may be hell-bound if Timothy cannot step in and put separation between themselves and the two false teachers.

I'll leave the other questions for the rest of the Brothers and Sisters here.

Hi, Ken.

A friend of mine who is not associated with this forum recently asked me about “the abomination of desolation”, and I sent her a rather thorough explanation of it via an email which I’ll now copy and paste here for your potential benefit.

As I understand it, the entire timeline surrounding the antichrist's ultimate reign is only 7 years, and that 7 years is broken down into two very distinct 3 1/2-year time periods.

We read:

Daniel chapter 9

[21] Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.
[22] And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.
[23] At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.
[24] Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
[25] Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
[26] And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
[27] And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

The angel Gabriel was sent to tell Daniel the future of his people and their holy city, Jerusalem (vs. 24).

“Seventy weeks” (vs. 24), or literally seventy sevens, or seventy 7-year periods were determined in relation to the same, and these 490 years (70 x 7 years) were broken down into two parts:

1. “Seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks” (vs. 25), or seven 7-year periods and sixty-two 7-year periods (a “score” equals 20, so “threescore” equals 60), or sixty-nine 7-year periods, or 483 years (69 x 7 years).
2. “One week” (vs. 27), or one 7-year period, or 7 years (1 x 7 years).

The first sixty-nine weeks, or the first sixty-nine 7-year periods, or the first 483 years (69 x 7 years), were themselves broken down into two parts:

1. “Seven weeks” (vs. 25), or seven 7-year periods, or 49 years (7 x 7 years).
2. “Threescore and two weeks” (vs. 25), or sixty-two weeks, or sixty-two 7-year periods, or 434 years (62 x 7 years).

These first 483 years (49 years + 434 years) had a specific starting point, and that starting point was "from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem" (vs. 25).

We actually know that date in history because it is given to us in the book of Nehemiah.

We read:

Nehemiah chapter 2

[1] And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence.
[2] Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid,
[3] And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?
[4] Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven.
[5] And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers' sepulchres, that I may build it.
[6] And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
[7] Moreover I said unto the king, If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may convey me over till I come into Judah;
[8] And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.

If we calculate 483 years forward from this date, then it takes us precisely to the time of Jesus' crucifixion, or precisely to the time when "Messiah shall be cut off, but not for himself" (Dan. 9:26), or precisely to the time when Jesus died for the sins of others.

Jesus, I believe, alluded to this prophecy concerning the exact time of his crucifixion when he said:

Luke chapter 19

[41] And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
[42] Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

"Thy day", that they should have known about, was the day, as I understand it, that Daniel prophesied about in relation to the time when "Messiah shall be cut off, but not for himself” (Dan. 9:26) precisely 483 years after the commandment had gone forth to restore and to build Jerusalem (Dan. 9:25).

That covers the first sixty-nine weeks or the first 483 years (69 x 7 years) of this seventy week or 490-year (70 x 7 years) prophecy (Dan. 9:24) which have already been fulfilled, but there is still one week or one 7-year period (1 x 7 years) remaining in this prophecy which has not yet been fulfilled, and, again, we read about that here:

Daniel chapter 9

[27] And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

As I said earlier, as I understand it, the entire timeline surrounding the antichrist's ultimate reign is only 7 years or "one week" (vs. 27), and that 7 years is broken down into two very distinct 3 1/2-year time periods.

As we just read, "in the midst of the week" (vs. 27), or at the 3 1/2-year midway point of this 7-year period, "he", the antichrist, "shall cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease" (vs. 27).

Well, if "he", the antichrist, is going to "cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease", then "the sacrifice and oblation" had to have been reinstated prior to this or else "he" couldn't possibly "cause" it "to cease".

We know that there is coming a rebuilt Jewish temple because the antichrist needs to sit within the same prior to Christ's second coming:

II Thessalonians chapter 2

[1] Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
[2] That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
[3] Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
[4] Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
[5] Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

The Thessalonian saints were concerned "that the day of Christ was at hand" (vs. 2) or that Jesus' return was imminent.

Paul had to remind them that "that day", the day of Christ's return, "shall not come, except there come a falling away" or apostasy "FIRST, AND THAT MAN OF SIN BE REVEALED, the son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; SO THAT HE AS GOD SITTETH IN THE TEMPLE OF GOD, shewing himself that he is God" (vss. 3-4).

It has been prophesied, all throughout scripture, that Jesus, at his second coming, will sit on the throne of David, within a temple in Jerusalem, from which he will reign over this earth.

For example, we read:

Luke chapter 1

[30] And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
[31] And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
[32] He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
[33] And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Seeing how Satan has always coveted the worship which belongs to Christ alone, he greatly covets Christ's designated seat in the coming temple in Jerusalem, and he will get it for a very short period of time prior to Christ's return in the person of the antichrist.

When this rebuilt temple in Jerusalem does come, apparently, the temple "sacrifice and oblation" (Dan. 9:27) will be restored for the first 3 1/2 years of antichrist's 7-year reign.

At the midway point ("in the midst of the week" - Dan. 9:27) of this 70th week or last 7-year time period leading up to Christ's return, something major happens in the natural realm which is in direct correlation to something major occurring in the spiritual realm.

“The great tribulation", as we call it, only lasts for 3 1/2 years or for the second half of Daniel’s 70th week, and it is triggered by something that occurs in the spiritual realm.

Daniel prophesied:

Daniel chapter 12

[1] And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

Daniel foretold of a specific time, "at that time", when the archangel Michael shall "stand up", and this "time" coincides with or triggers "a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time" or what we call "the great tribulation".

Well, exactly when is this “at that time”?

To find the correct answer to this question, we merely need to back up one verse to the last verse of Daniel chapter 11.

There, we read:

Daniel chapter 11

[45] And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

In context, this “he” is the antichrist, and we’re told that “he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain”.

This “glorious holy mountain” is none other than Mount Zion in Jerusalem (Isa. 11:9, 56:7, 57:13, 65:11, 25, 66:20, Ezek. 20:40, Dan. 9:16, 20, Joel 2:1, 3:17, Oba. 1:16, Zeph. 3:11, Zech. 8:3), so this is actually a prophecy which states that the antichrist will ultimately set up his residency in Jerusalem.

I’ve personally been telling people for more than 30 years that the literal, final antichrist will be a “pope” of Rome (and I could offer plenty of scriptural and historical evidence to support my claim), and listen to what the Jews in Jerusalem who are seeking their third temple have been saying for many years themselves:

http://www.templemount.org/tempprep.html

“As a religious center Jerusalem remains sacred to (and fought over by) all three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It is an open secret that the Pope aspires to set up his world headquarters there, having claimed for many years that the Holy Land has all along really been under Roman Catholic "stewardship." UN debates, Arab neighbors, and the PLO urge the "internationalization" of this modest city, though it is no secret that they actually want the city all to themselves without any Jews.”

Here is what Daniel was prophesying of when he wrote about the archangel Michael standing up (Dan. 12:1) “at that time” (Dan. 11:45) or after the Vatican moves its headquarters to Jerusalem:

Revelation chapter 12

[6] And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
[7] And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
[8] And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
[9] And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
[10] And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
[11] And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
[12] Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
[13] And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
[14] And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

Michael’s standing up (Dan. 12:1) refers to the yet-future timeframe when Michael and his angels shall fight against Satan and his angels and prevail. When Satan and his angels are “cast out into the earth” (vs. 9), Satan comes down “having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time” (vs. 12). This time of Satan’s “great wrath” is what we normally call “the great tribulation”, and it lasts “but a short time”.

In the portion of scripture that I just cited, we’re told twice exactly how long a period of time this “short time” is.

In verse 6, we read of “a thousand two hundred and threescore days” or of 1260 days.

The Hebrew calendar, which is both the true Biblical calendar and a lunar calendar, generally speaking (there are some fluctuations), consists of 360 days, or of twelve 30-day months, so 1260 days equals precisely 3 ½ years (360 days x 3 ½ = 1260 days).

Just as a quick aside, these twelve 30-day months are based upon such passages of scripture as these:

“In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.” (Gen. 7:11)

“And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.” (Gen. 7:24)

“And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.” (Gen. 8:3-4)

The flood began “in the second month” on “the seventeenth day of the month”, and it lasted for “an hundred and fifty days”. “After the end of the hundred and fifty days”, “the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month”.

In other words, exactly 5 months were accounted for here, and those 5 months totaled 150 days. Seeing how this is so, people generally just divide 150 days by 5 (the number of months which transpired) and conclude that each month was 30 days long.

Anyhow, as I said earlier, in the portion of scripture that I cited from Revelation, we’re told twice exactly how long a period of time this “short time” of Satan’s “great wrath” is, and here is the second time:

“And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.” (Revelation 12:14)

“A time” equals one year, “times” equals two years, “and half a time” equals a half of a year, so, as with the 1260 days that we previously addressed, this period of time equals 3 ½ years.

In fact, this terminology of “a time, and times, and half a time” is taken directly from the book of Daniel.

There, in relation to the period of time during which the antichrist shall persecute the saints, we read:

“And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” (Dan. 7:25)

Again, we read:

“And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.” (Dan. 12:7)

These 1260 days, or time and times and half a time, or 3 ½ years begin “in the midst of the week” (Dan. 9:27) or at the midway point of Daniel’s 70th week, and, again, what triggers their beginning in the spiritual realm is Michael and his angels defeating Satan and his angels in the heavenlies and casting them down to this earth.

That’s what triggers it in the spiritual realm, and now we’ll look a bit closer at what coincides with this in the natural realm.
Jesus said:

Matthew chapter 24

[15] When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)
[16] Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
[17] Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take anything out of his house:
[18] Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
[19] And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
[20] But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
[21] For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
[22] And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

So, when did Daniel the prophet speak of the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place (vs. 15)?

Again, he spoke of it right here:

“And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” (Dan. 9:27)

“In the midst of the week”, or at the midway or 3 ½-year juncture of this final 7-year period leading up to Christ’s return, because of “the overspreading of ABOMINATIONS he shall MAKE IT DESOLATE”.

(continued in my next post)

To gain a better understanding of exactly what this means, we simply need to look to the other places where Daniel wrote of this abomination that makes desolate or this “abomination of desolation”.

We read:

“And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.” (Dan. 11:31)

Again:

And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.” (Dan. 12:11)

If we consider Daniel’s three references to this “abomination” together, then we can conclude that “in the midst of the week” (Dan. 9:27), or at the midway point or 3 ½ year juncture of Daniel’s 70th week, “he”, the antichrist, “shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice” (Dan. 11:31), or “shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease” (Dan. 9:27) when “the daily sacrifice shall be taken away” (Dan. 12:11), and “he”, the antichrist, “shall place the abomination that maketh desolate” (Dan. 11:31, 12:11) in “the sanctuary of strength” (Dan. 11:31) or “in the holy place” (Matt. 24:15).

Now, let’s look again at what Jesus instructed his followers in Jerusalem to do at that precise moment in time:

Matthew chapter 24

[15] When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
[16] Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
[17] Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
[18] Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
[19] And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
[20] But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
[21] For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
[22] And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

Seeing how, in the natural realm, the beginning of the “great tribulation” (vs. 21) coincides with the timeframe when “the abomination of desolation” shall “stand in the holy place” (vs. 15), Jesus instructed “them which be in Judaea” or Judah, which is where Jerusalem is, to “flee into the mountains”. He also spoke of “those days” (vs.22), the days when there “shall be great tribulation” (vs. 21), being “shortened” (vs. 22).

These “shortened” days are exactly the same 1260 days, or “a time, and times, and half a time”, or 3 ½ years that we’ve covered here already.

In fact, if we extend the tail end of what we looked at earlier in the book of Revelation in relation to Michael and his angels defeating Satan and his angels at this precise point in time and keep on reading just a bit further, then we read the following:

Revelation chapter 12

[12] Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
[13] And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
[14] And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
[15] And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
[16] And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
[17] And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Contextually (read Revelation 12:1-5), “the woman which brought forth the man child”, or which brought forth Jesus Christ, is Israel.

When Satan and his angels are cast down into this earth, thereby starting the great tribulation, he is going to be “wroth with the woman” (vs. 17), or with Israel, and he is going “to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (vs. 17), or with precisely the same people that Jesus told to flee from Judaea when they see the abomination of desolation stand in the holy place in Jerusalem (Matt. 24:15-16).

Remember, this “abomination”, which I’M GUESSING (I don’t know for sure) is “the image of the beast” that we read about elsewhere in the book of Revelation (Rev. 13:14-15, 14:9, 11, 15:2, 16:2, 19:20, 20:4), is called “the abomination of desolation” (Matt. 24:15) or “the abomination that maketh desolate” (Dan. 11:31, 12:11).

In other words, when this “abomination”, whatever it truly is, “stands in the holy place” (Matt. 24:15) “in the midst of the week” (Dan. 9:27) or at the midway point of the last 7-year time period prior to Christ’s second coming, it “maketh desolate” or God brings desolation upon Jerusalem at this time for 3 ½ years, and this is precisely why Jesus told his believers to flee at that time.

In relation to the same, we read:

Revelation chapter 11

[1] And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
[2] But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

You need to understand that John was given this “revelation” somewhere around the year 90 A.D., or approximately 20 years after the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 A.D.

With such being the case, when John was told to “measure the temple of God” (vs. 1), this was a FUTURE TEMPLE that he was measuring.

John was specifically told not to measure “the court which is without the temple” (vs.).

Why?

Well, because God told him that “it is given unto the Gentiles”, or unto the nations, “and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months” (vs. 2).

“Forty and two months”, like 1260 days, and like “a time, and times, and half a time”, is 3 ½ years (12 months in one year x 3 ½ = 42 months), so we’re talking about the same 3 ½ year timeframe that begins “in the midst of the week” (Dan. 9:27), or the last 3 ½ years leading up to Christ’s second coming.

During these 42 months, “the holy city”, which is Jerusalem, will be “given unto the Gentiles” or unto the non-Jewish nations, and they shall “tread it under foot forty and two months”, or for 3 ½ years, and this is the “that maketh desolate” part of “the abomination that maketh desolate” (Dan. 11:31, 12:11).

In other words, because this “abomination” will be set up in the holy place or in the coming rebuilt temple in Jerusalem, God will allow the Gentile nations to “make it”, Jerusalem, “desolate” or be “tread under foot forty and two months” (Rev. 11:2).

By the way, and I probably should have mentioned this earlier, in the same manner that the first 69 weeks or 483 years of Daniel’s prophecy had a starting point of “the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem” (Dan. 9:25), so, too, does the 70th week or the final 7 years of Daniel’s prophecy have a specific starting point.

Again, we read:

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” (Dan. 9:27)

“He”, the antichrist, must “confirm the covenant with many for one week” or for 7 years before any of the other things that we’ve been looking at can transpire.

I know that I’ve been bouncing you around all over the place, so let’s do a quick recap of the chronological order of events that we should be looking to transpire in the future:

1. The antichrist must confirm a covenant with the nation of Israel for “one week” or for 7 years.
2. Out of that covenant must come a rebuilt Jewish temple, even as John was instructed to measure the same, and even as the antichrist needs to sit within the same prior to Christ’s second coming.
3. For the first 3 ½ years of this 7-year timeframe, the temple sacrifice and oblation will be restored or reinstated.
4. “In the midst of the week”, or at the 3 ½ year midway point of this 7-year timeframe, the antichrist will cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease, and “the abomination of desolation” will be set up in the holy place or within the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem, and this will begin the time of “great tribulation” in the natural realm.
5. At this same midway point of this 7-year timeframe, Michael and his angels will fight against Satan and his angels and prevail, and Satan will come down having great wrath because he knows that his time is short, and this “short time” equals 3 ½ years, and this will begin the time of “great tribulation” in the spiritual realm.
6. When #4 and #5 occur simultaneously in both the natural and spiritual realms respectively, the believers in Judaea or Judah, which is where Jerusalem is, will flee, just as Jesus instructed them to.
7. At this same juncture in time, Jerusalem will be trodden down or “made desolate” by the Gentiles or non-Jewish nations for 42 months or for 3 ½ years.

I hope that this helps.

Hi ken,

You may not remember but I said to you on another thread that you (or anyone) will get confused (which you are now experiencing) if you mix up - the Body of Christ, Israel and the nations.

Also when you read a newspaper do you read it as all about YOU! That is what people do with God`s word - it`s all about ME! Well NO it isn`t. We read and take note of WHO the Lord is talking to.

We can learn about the Lord, His character and His purposes however HE is the center NOT US.

So read WHO the Lord is talking to and see if that helps.
