I been wondering about the most recognized verse in the whole bible. The one verse that most people know by heart when you ask them. The verse they can say without even looking. The verse that comes to mind to me is John 3:16. You may have a different one. What a great verse John 3:16 is; was one of the first vereses i learned as a child.

John 3:16 [SUP]16 [/SUP]“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[SUP][a][/SUP] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

really? the first one I memorized as a child was probably "Jesus Wept"

On a more serious note, I think this is number 2;
Proverbs 3:5-6

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

[SUP]5 [/SUP]Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.

the 23rd psalm is one many people know, though they might not know where in the Bible it is.

One verse that many worldlings know and like to use is "judge not..." (Matt.7:1) always taken out of context and often followed by their very own judgment that most if not all christians are not true christians.

This is probably the most popular and misinterpreted passage: Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Coming out of Eastern religions with all their down play on thought, the verse that hit me was "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God."

I remember when I was a young kid (9-10) I would watch football with my dad on sundays and whenever there was an extra point or field goal there would be someone in the stands with a sign that said JOHN 3:16. My dad told me it was a bible verse but we didn't have any bibles in the house. I found out later what that verse said. I don't remember exactly when but football was the reason I was curious.

Whoever came up with that idea for football games was Brilliant!! If there is one verse that could show the world the Love that God has for people and the reason to start to know Him that is the one.

And the Word was made flesh and dwelt amongst us...
