Many 20 hour long soapbox rants on obscure issues are justified by someone quoting this itty, bitty, tiny snippet of scripture from Hosea.......

Hosea 4
6(P)My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge "

Usually they start off saying, "Well you know, we really need to investigate such and such an issue."

Which happens to be obscure and very non-consequential to the faith as a whole.

To justify ranting on and on and on and on, they tag on this verse ,"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" to their rant.

The indirect assertion being, that if you don't listen to them go on and on about their obscure issue, then you'll surely perish for lack of knowledge!

Nice how that works eh. ;)

Something tells me that this little snippet of verse wasn't meant to justify endless, soapbox rants on obscure, non-consequential things.

Here is some context to that little snippet of scripture.

5So you will (N)stumble by day,
And the prophet also will stumble with you by night;
And I will destroy your (O)mother.
6(P)My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge
Because you have (Q)rejected knowledge,
I also will (R)reject you from being My priest
Since you have (S)forgotten the (T)law of your God,
I also will forget your children.

So the context is Israel rejecting the knowledge of God. It wasn't about Israel failing to discuss the minutia of end times events or if the latest president of Albania is the anti-Christ!

So if we truly don't want to perish because of lack of knowledge, what kind of knowledge should we focus on?

Which leader of the latest country is the anti-Christ?
The minutia of end-times events?
If dunking three times for baptism is better than dunking twice?

I wouldn't say those topics are worthy of 'focus'.

I'd think Psalm 1 would be a good starting point.

1How blessed is the man who (A)does not walk in the (B)counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the (C)path of sinners,
Nor (D)sit in the seat of scoffers!
2But his (E)delight is (F)in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates (G)day and (H)night.

3He will be like (I)a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, (J)he prospers.
4The wicked are not so,
But they are like (K)chaff which the wind drives away.
5Therefore (L)the wicked will not stand in the (M)judgment,
Nor sinners in (N)the assembly of the righteous.
6For the LORD (O)knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of (P)the wicked will perish.

Philippians 4

8Finally, brethren, (N)whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
9The things you have learned and received and heard and seen (O)in me, practice these things, and (P)the God of peace will be with you.

That's all. :)
