Read Acts 14:14, a verse that shows Barnabas and Saul/Paul were apostles.
Paul mentions Barnabas when he mentioned apostles and his right to live of the Gospel in I Corinthians 9 also.
I have posted in more detail on the topic of Barnabas earlier in the thread.
There is no reason to think Barnabas was an apostle when he first met Paul. Later, the apostles sent him to Antioch and the Spirit sent him and Paul out as we read in Acts 13.
And why would you think he was Paul’s helper? His name was mentioned first when they are mentioned in Acts 13-14...at first.

It doesn't matter how many other apostles there were. We know from Rev 21:14 that there will be 12 names on the 12 foundations of the New Jerusalem. We know that the 11 will be there. So, the question is who is the 12th.
Matthias was chosen by a roll of the dice. The group's idea. Which they attributed to the Lord.
But there were ONLY 12 apostles who received the GC face to face from the risen Lord.
If that isn't the chief criteria for having one's name on one of the 12 foundations, I don't know what is.
And again, Paul outshined all the other apostles. We even see Paul having to brace Peter and Barnabas for their hypocrisy.
