The greatest commandment is to love The Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, and strength. How do we love God? Is our love composed of mere feelings? No. Jesus says that if we love him we will obey his commandments (John 14:15).

In order to follow the greatest commandment we must follow the rest of Christ's commands.

This is not a call to legalism or bondage. It is a simple truth that if we love God we will obey His Word. We do not keep His commandments to find salvation, we keep them out of love for the salvation that has been freely given to those that believe.

We can not seperate our love for God from obedience to his word. One can not claim to love Jesus when one does not love His commandments. One can not claim to love God when he hates his neighbor.

This is why we must hold fast to the truth of God's Word. While the rest of the world disregards his commands and follows after what they think is right, the Christian will seek to obey The Lord with all their heart. Again, this is not a cry for perfectionism, but a desire to keep God's holy commands out of love.

It says many hearts will grow cold toward God. This is because people will no longer heed His Word or abide by His will as set forth in His commandments.

What I say is not used to back up a certain verse that Christians might be prone to argue with. I say it that we might all strive to do the will of Father with all that is in us and by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

May The Lord grant us the ability and strength to uphold his truth when the world around us condemns us for holding fast to His Word.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength (Deuteronomy 6:4-5)

In the same token we cannot love Him by just keeping commandments and never recieveHim. Many try to keep commandments to go to heaven but they never ask forgiveness for their sins because they view themselves as good commandment keeping people.

Obedience and love seem to go hand in hand as John said clearly that "The Love of God is the keeping of his commandments and his commandments are not (hard to bear)" and Jesus taught that if we love him we will do what he commands us to do....

If we by choice, conviction and a true heart Love God and Love our Neighbors as the first two commandments teach us to do, we will also by choice/default keep the rest of the word of God as the entire law and prophets hinge upon us keeping the first two commandments....

A true believer that has the Spirit that has been born of God will....

1. Desire the word of God
2. Study the word of God
3. Be open to the instruction that comes from the word of God
4. Will submit to the word of God and...
5. Obey the word of God

Not one man, woman and or child that has been born among men except Jesus himself has had the ability to keep the entire law! For there is NOT a just man upon the earth that does good and sins not!

The Greatest commandment per Jesus has another NEW commandment, that goes with it. The Father in heaven is a jealous God.

"And call no man on earth your father, for you have one Father who is in heaven." Matt 23:9

John 13:34) A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 .) By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

John 14:15) If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 .) And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 .) Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 .) I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you......................23) Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 .) He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
25 .) These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 .) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Good Scriptures every one! But, LEST WE FORGET...............

Matthew 22:35) Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 .) Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 .) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 .) This is the first and great commandment.
39 .) And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 .) On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Now, all this being said..............and folks all happy about the idea of being "obedient" to the commandments of Jesus, let us consider how many are ACTUALLY obedient?

1 .) Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 .) And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
3 .) Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4 .) He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5 .) After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 .) Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 .) Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 .) Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9 .) Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 .) Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11 .) For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
12 .) So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 .) Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 .) If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 .) For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
16 .) Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
17 .) If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

It is interesting to note that MANY want to call Jesus Savior, but rarely do they want to call Him Lord and Master or Judge!

Right! Because when it comes down to it, people, even Christians, often want to obey the flesh rather than Christ.

...no biggie, I do it sometimes too......... :)

One good thing about Scripture is how it is woven together with ONE TRUTH, so often times one thread will appear to mirror another...........
