The greatest commandment is to love The Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, and strength. How do we love God? Is our love composed of mere feelings? No. Jesus says that if we love him we will obey his commandments (John 14:15).
In order to follow the greatest commandment we must follow the rest of Christ's commands.
This is not a call to legalism or bondage. It is a simple truth that if we love God we will obey His Word. We do not keep His commandments to find salvation, we keep them out of love for the salvation that has been freely given to those that believe.
We can not seperate our love for God from obedience to his word. One can not claim to love Jesus when one does not love His commandments. One can not claim to love God when he hates his neighbor.
This is why we must hold fast to the truth of God's Word. While the rest of the world disregards his commands and follows after what they think is right, the Christian will seek to obey The Lord with all their heart. Again, this is not a cry for perfectionism, but a desire to keep God's holy commands out of love.
It says many hearts will grow cold toward God. This is because people will no longer heed His Word or abide by His will as set forth in His commandments.
What I say is not used to back up a certain verse that Christians might be prone to argue with. I say it that we might all strive to do the will of Father with all that is in us and by the grace of the Holy Spirit.
May The Lord grant us the ability and strength to uphold his truth when the world around us condemns us for holding fast to His Word.
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength (Deuteronomy 6:4-5)
