I see obedience demanded in a woman throughout the Bible. It is in the Qur'an Surah 4:34. Do these works call for absolute obedience, or is there a burden on the male also to not be overbearing and mean?
First, I do not believe a wife is obligated to do anything sinful against God or criminal (being a false alibi, for example) if the husband commands it. Anyone please submit Bible quotes if the Bible states otherwise.

Second, if the husband commits adultery of any sort that is grounds for divorce. She does not have to stay in the marriage.

Third, if she fears that her life or her children's are in danger, separation is warranted.

Lastly, regarding the mean ole overbearing husband, say he makes her clean the floor with a toothbrush, she does not have too many options. That is the risk of marriage.

I've seen and experienced things that I am careful about sharing. Medicine is a part of my life and it is integrated into my spirituality. As to the magical thinkers of Trump I feel sorry for them, but I also know that they will kill folk like me. I came out of the main stream Evangelical and Assembly of God Churches. As I've said before, as soon as I had a break down, they could not trash me soon enough. They will face God with their deeds.

I would say separation is also warranted for this.

Eph 5:28-33a . . Husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies.
He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own
body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church-- for we
are members of his body.

. . . "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to
his wife, and the two will become one flesh." This is a profound mystery--
but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also
must love his wife as he loves himself,

That, of course, is a practical application of the so-called golden rule; which
first shows up in the Bible at Lev 19:18, applied at Lev 19:34, and reiterated
at Matt 7:12 and Luke 6:31.

The very opposite of the golden rule would be for a husband to do unto his
wife the very things that he does do not enjoy being done to himself; either
by word or by deed.

I'm not a qualified marriage counselor, but in my unprofessional opinion,
were couples to practice the golden rule in their association with each other,
it would go a long ways towards preventing their relationship from becoming
a cold war instead of a home.

There are toxic wives out there who do not deserve their husband's
affections; and in fact have done all in their power to destroy them.
Nevertheless, it is his Christian duty to continue looking after her, and to
treat her well as if his very life depended upon it in spite of the fact that she
may be someone he deeply regrets courting.

How strict should we be with adultery and divorce? I mean, Jesus set the bar so high the virtually everyone is an adulterer. Didn't He say that if someone looks at someone else to lust after them then they've committed adultery in their heart? That means they almost everyone is allowed to get divorced because almost everyone has surely lusted after someone who isn't their spouse.

Mark 10:9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
?
God bless!

Adultery is grounds for divorce. The man (or woman) has joined his body with someone else.

I think any type of physical sexual contact (and there are several) is grounds for divorce since there is physical contact, and is way past the looking at lust stage. Yes, I believe looking/thinking with lust is also adultery but we should be more forgiving especially if the person is attempting to stop. In this case, I believe separation rather than divorce is warranted, at least in the beginning.

Rom 7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
Rom 7:3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

In old times marriage was ratified by the "consummation" of the marriage....... becoming "twain"

Eph 5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
