Well, personally, I believe Jesus when He says I am already forgiven. I let Him know I am sorry when I blow it, but I'd rather not insult Him by acting like I didn't believe Him, and beg for what He already told me I have.
That's exactly right Willie. My earlier posts weren't meant to imply that condition.

Name it, site it, and give it back to the one who paid for it and forget it and carry on. If we don't recognize our sin(Grieving the Spirit) and name it and site it to the Lord, we are out of the divine protocol for the believer.

We also need to name and site our evil, also called human good, to the Lord. If we don't recognize our evil(Quenching the Spirit) and name it and site it to the Lord, we are out of the divine protocol for the believer.

Its not a matter of gaining forgiveness.........Its a matter of giving it all back to the only one who can and did take care of it.

If we don't recognize or name and site our sin and evil, we will live in guilt, worry and fear. And we will eventually start to work, feel sorry and believe that we CAN do something about our sin and evil.

It doesn't matter how "sorry" we feel, how "bad", how "guilty" or how many tears we shed for our sin.............it does nothing.

We name and site our sin and get back into the divine protocol of being filled and walking in the Spirit.
Please don't be silly. Of course we don't just bop on by Jesus and, "Hey! I'm sorry." I didn't think it was necessary to tell thinking adults that when you say you are "sorry", you say what you are sorry for.

Amen Willie-T This is the truth we fall on, when we blow it., when we mess up- the revelation that Jesus has already paid for - made blood atonement for - is what we go to and have the realization of. How amazing is that realization every time! Coming to communion together means accepting the truth over again A NEW that Jesus has paid for our sin and because of Jesus body and blood poured out on Calvary's cross, WE are able to fellowship with Him and with each other under His righteousness and holiness. Not our own righteousness. This brings pleasure to God as we acknowledge the SON. As we BEHOLD Jesus and uphold Him in worship for all He has done for us. As we obey Him and "do this in memory of Me" at communion.

And doing in our daily lives when we sin, we know it is already atoned for and our fellowship is not broken because Jesus is the reason we have it.

We don't beg God for something He has already given us. Amen :D. We acknowledge the finished work of Jesus Christ and fall down and worship Him with joy and not sorrow. He said it is finished and we live and move in that completed work.

I don't think I even saw your earlier posts.... Sorry, if this sounded like I was talking to you.

I look at it like this.....

1. I have been born into the kingdom of God by faith having been eternally saved, sealed, justified and sanctified in Christ positionally which cannot be lost, gained, earned and or facilitated by works I have done and or a lack thereof.

2. Where sin abounds in my life the grace of God much more abounds and takes care of my sin before the Father as Christ continually mediates for me.

3. My fellowship with God can be broken by willful sin...this does not change the status of my (sonship) as that is eternally secure in Christ.

4. My fellowship (walk with God) is restored when I acknowledge my sin before God
Another thing, as you pointed out, but can never be said enough..............we are living here, on this earth in our condition. And Johns epistles deals with our condition(Experiential sanctification) as believers. We cannot look at Johns epistles as our position in Christ.

In our position~~no need to name and site sin.

In our condition~~We need to name and site our known sins....................its growth in our condition and rewards in the eternal state.

You let him know you are sorry when you blow it - yep, so do I but it's usually in an apology type manner and I certainly don't beg him . . :)

Willie, some believers think that feeling sorry, guilt or shedding tears is worthy. It is not. It won't get us anywhere.

Falling on our knees so it hurts, shedding tears......."paying" a little bit for our sin, does absolutely nothing for us.

I know you are advanced, but some of us don't know this. So I was just adding to the discussion. I wasn't trying to be silly.

No, that's not what I meant. The Holy Spirit will always guide us to a closer relationship with God. He will lead us to confess many things ,since our relationship is to be more than a strictly legal one.

I don't believe that we jump out of salvation every time we sin and we must confess to be back in. If that were the case then who could be saved? Who could perfectly confess and thus cleanse themselves from all sin. Who could stay in that condition of forgiveness? You would only be forgiven until you sinned again. I would need to spend all day , every day confessing lest I die in a sinful state. That would be the worst kind of bondage based on my ability alone.

What I believe John is speaking of is confession to restore proper relationship. My son can have broken relationship with me because of his disobedience, but he is still my son. I will not disown him because he is being stubborn or disobedient. I think Jesus perfectly illustrated this concept in "the prodigal son." Remember how the father ran to meet the son. All things were restored just as if he had never left. That father had always considered his wayward son, still a son.
I believe it only takes one confession to GOD for forgiveness of our sinful nature and if a person is confessing their sins every Sunday then they are into a some kind of thing to ease their conscious because when GOD looks at us he sees the blood of JESUS and JESUS said it was finished at the cross.

This is truth Brother. We need to recognize/acknowledge our sin or evil to GOD, not other gossiping sinners, and get back into fellowship.

There would be no verses of grieving or quenching the Spirit, If we are ALWAYS in fellowship with the Lord.

We grieve and quench the Holy Spirit when we ignore the Lord's Atonement and try to make ourselves acceptable to God.

The simple truth is that if no sin is forgiven until you confess it, we would be bound for hell every time we commit even the smallest infraction. The only way to get to heaven would be to confess all our sins, if that is even possible, and then die in the microseconds afterwards, before we have any chance to sin.
I kinda think the problem is that... people confess... meaning they admit they did something wrong and think that is "CONFESSION" but rather if you are biblically "confessing your sin"... that is repentance, you are agreeing with God it is SIN and you correct your error and agree with God.
There is a real distinction between "oops, my bad, whoops, so sorry, whups" and "that is sinful Lord and I will not do that anymore".... the former is a mere acknowledgement of offense the latter repentance that brings forth the cleansing.

I wonder why God still stayed right there with Adam and Eve? I mean, He even came looking for them after they sinned, and was calling out to them. Then He even fashioned coverings for them.
He sure did...proactively dealt with their sin...just as point 2 in my post points out! I can also point out scriptures as well...Daniel in PRAYER confessed HIS SINS:)

So Acts 16:31 should read......................

Feel bad for your sin, feel guilty for your sin and shed tears for your sin and you shall be saved.

1 John 1:9 is not the gospel. It is growing in His grace and knowledge for the believer.

Sorry. I took your post as an answer to what I said. And when I say "I am sorry" to God, I say it just about like I wrote it. I'm not into wailing, breast beating, demonstrative stuff.

And He acknowledged that he sinned against God ALONE.

It gets overlooked that when we do sin or quench the Spirit...............God keeps after us. We may be out of fellowship, but He prompts, disciplines and comes after His children to recover.

People get in the ditch on both sides of the road. One side says that sin isn't dealt with until it is confessed. The other side acts as if there is no need for communication of forgiveness and repentance between a father and son.
The idea that some have, it is not necessary to SAY IT, because God already knows.... is so...<rolly eyes>... God KNEW what adam and eve had done but he went asking them anyway.... the confessing is for US to be cleansed... not for God to be informed.

Did I say, somewhere, that you didn't need to acknowledge your errors, or didn't need to accept responsibility for doing such? All I have ever been saying here is that it borders on unbelief to keep repeatedly asking God to forgive you when He has made it all too clear that He has already forgiven us through Christ's sacrifice.

There also seems to be some verb tenses that states a few things....If I remember right, John the Immerser and Jesus both preached to be repenting (present active indicative form of the verb) for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand....and were are to CONFESS our faults ONE to ANOTHER...just a few more thoughts to chew on!

While some of you make the liberty and grace of Jesus Christ sound like a difficult science project, I pray most have the understanding of Romans 8:1 - "THERE IS THEREFORE NOW NO MORE CONDEMNATION." Not tomorrow..... not after you do something..... not after you grieve to God........ not after ANYTHING. NOW!! There is therefore NOW no condemnation for them who are in Jesus Christ. Praise God!!!!!!!!!

Another point to ponder....If we are not to confess our sins to God and repent of our sins to God then what possible reason would there be for God to chasten his children?

I understand that it yields the peaceable fruits of righteousness....
