I was also praying this morning and thinking about how the grace of Christ has affected me. I had the scripture come up where the Pharisees were arguing about whether a man was born blind or not after Jesus healed him. Of course the Pharisees were trying to discredit the message of Jesus. The man said.." All I know is that I was born blind but now I see."

This is what the gospel of the grace of Christ has done in my life:

I realize that these beliefs in the grace of God....especially the acceptance grace and the total forgiveness that Jesus bought and paid for with His blood....that these can be offensive to our religious beliefs and what we have been taught in church.

This gospel of the wondrous grace of Christ has had a beautiful affect on me. I am more in love with Jesus and the Father more then ever....in love with studying His word....praying in the spirit constantly with a heart full of joy!

This gospel has given me a compassion for other people and to reach out in love to them. To give more than I ever have with a heart full of love.

To live a holier life in Him...to be a witness of the life and love of our Lord in me.

If these are the horrible fruit of the grace of Christ in me....I want more!.....hyper-grace me more please my Lord and God!

I am living a much fuller life now, more deeply in love with Jesus and the Father then ever, free from the horrible religion of self-effort, having the love of God pour out to me to help others now that I understand the grace that is in Christ then I did when I was doing the self=performance based gospel ( which is not the gospel )

I was blind but now I see. I see Jesus and His finished work for me!

It will always be in eternity "Worthy is the Lamb"..it will never be.."Worthy is the Lamb......and me..because I did my part"

It has always been about Jesus and Him alone and it will always remain that for all eternity.

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: Sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery, idolatry and witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkeness, orgies and the like.
I warn you, as I did before, those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God
Galatians 5:19&20

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked, a man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the spirit, from the spirit will reap eternal life
Galatians 6:7&8

Paul wrote to the Galatians to warn them not to live in legalism, but grace, but he made clear eternal life required them to follow after the holy spirit.
Was Paul a legalist?
No, he just preached the full message.

He didn't tell anyone if you follow after the flesh you destroy your life on earth but still inherit eternal life

This is about the guy that was sleeping with his father's wife..( not sure how exactly that worked ).

The Corinthians were boasting in this deed that was being done by this man. I believe it was the boasting in that they could do whatever they wanted because of grace. Paul did not mention the other people in Corinth for disciplining of the flesh as he did the man with his father's wife.

The other Corinthians were going to temple prostitutes for sex, getting drunk at communion, fighting and bickering amongst themselves, taking each other to court, committing fornication, not leaving food for the poorer to eat during their communion time ( love-feasts). These were not viewed like the guy below.

1 Corinthians 5:5-6 (NASB)
[SUP]5 [/SUP] I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. [SUP]6 [/SUP] Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?

Boasting would include boasting of knowledge-right?

Once again Paul warned the Corinthians - as he did the Galatians not to be deceived, then he gave a list of things that would stop them inheriting the kingdom of God. 1 corinthians6:9-11
Pretty much the same list he gave the galatians

1 Corinthians 6:9 - Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

Galatians 5:19 - Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 John 3:9 - No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

The unrighteous practice sin - 1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Galatians 5:19-21; not the righteous, who are born of God - 1 Corinthians 6:11; 1 John 3:9.

And they are not under law

Some are preaching you can practice unrighteousness/ sin and still attain heaven

Amen...it's all in the identity. We have a new identity in Christ now.

This is all a matter of identity! If I was a thief before I came to Christ..am I still a thief?..in the eyes of the world I am ( and in the eyes of self-righteous people that never stolen anything ...I could still be thought of that way )

In Christ there is no such thing of being gay, being a thief, a gossiper..whatever. We are new creations in Christ!

It's a matter of indentity!

Let's tell Christians who they really are now in Christ..and to stop identifying ourselves with the old habits of our former life or
for those things that we still struggle with.

Those who are led by the Spirit of God (the righteous) are sons of God and are not under law but under grace. 1 John 3:10 - By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.

I think it all boils down to "identity"...which identity do we align ourselves with..the old man which has been crucified with Christ..or the new man created in Christ in righteousness and holiness?

I don't think anyone says that believers don't sin anymore.....it's just that they are identifying themselves with Christ now.

That's my view....

It doesn't boil down to identity in Christ and sin as you did before you became a christian
Paul tells us sin shall not be our master for we are not under law but under grace.
If we believe what Paul wrote were gonna accept that.
No ones speaking of sinless perfection as far as I can see. Just as no one should be ignoring what Paul wrote as to the result of living a life following after the flesh instead of following after the spirit

Those who are born of God practice righteousness and not sin, but of course, that does not mean that believers live sinless, without fault or defect, flawless perfect lives. We still have our struggles and weak moments as we continue to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Ongoing sanctification is a process.

This is what believers in the grace of our Lord Jesus have to say about "sanctification"..the word itself means = "to be set apart"

We are perfectly sanctified in Christ now....very true....we as an identity the new creation in Christ will never be more holy....however there is a "sanctifying" of our behavior that is on-going that reflects our true nature in Christ...so in essence...we are becoming outwardly who we really are in our inner man which is in Christ.

God sets apart ( sanctifies )our attitudes and actions outwardly but you are 100% set apart ( sanctified ) as a person..the real you in your inner man..the new creation in Christ.

Hebrews 10:14 (NASB)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. ( this is present passive..passive is that something is being done to you ...the Spirit of the Lord in us changing us. )

Here is what Jesus told Paul on the road to Damascus....having been sanctified ( perfect passive )..= done deal

Acts 26:17-18 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] rescuing you from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you,
[SUP]18 [/SUP] to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.' ( perfect passive )

Sanctification to our "religious minds" could mean a lot of different things to different people as it depends on the religious beliefs formulated from our backgrounds....like..no smoking..no drinking..no going to church..no reading your bible every day..no praying for an hour each day.....no going to a movie...reading a newspaper...no being a servant of God...no doing "what I don't do.."..and of course all the regular sins like lusting, fornication,,etc

Now that is the way to rightly divide the word of truth. We would agree that we are "positionally" sanctified in Christ now, yet there is also a progressive sanctification in which the reality of that holiness becomes more and more evident in our actions, words, thoughts, attitudes, and motives. 1 Corinthians 6:11 - Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 1:2 - To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus.. Yet I also see progressive sanctification in which the reality of that holiness becomes more and more evident in our actions, words, thoughts, attitudes, and motives. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4, - For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor. So becoming washed, sanctified and justified in Christ is a one time event, yet abstaining from sexual immorality is not a one time event.

This would make a good thread. "Is sanctification an event, a process, or both?"

My point of view is that those who follow after the Holy Spirit are sons of God. Those who follow after the flesh as a lifestyle (practice sin) are not born of God. This is CONTINUOUS action. The latter are described as the unrighteous.

I agree!

We are definitely to show outwardly what we are in our new creation in Christ. We do not do "holy" things to become holy. We do not do righteous deeds to become righteous. Doing these good deeds or actions are simply a "fruit" of our union with Christ.

As Peter says..

1 Peter 1:14-16 (NASB)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,
[SUP]15 [/SUP] but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
[SUP]16 [/SUP] because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY."

This is why we need to hear the gospel of the grace of Christ everyday so that we "become outwardly who we already are in Christ now"

To follow after the flesh all of your life is not descriptive of someone who is born again. Romans 8:8 - Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. 9 You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. 12 Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation--but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, 14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Of course someone who has been born of the spirit is able to practice sin. But one born of GOD cannot practice sin and remain a child of GOD. The conscience will become seared, and the branch not bearing fruit eventually will be broken off and discarded.
