1 john 1:5
This is the Message which we have heard from the Lord Jesus and now deliver to you--God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness.

1 kings 8:12
Then Solomon said, “The LORD has said that he would dwell in thick darkness.

Exodus 20:21
The people stood far off, while Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was.

Well there is a profound difference in the saying of darkness with in and surrounded by darkness.

Indeed there is no darkness in God, yet God can surround himself in a cloud of darkness to conceal Himself. God has and does use many things to conceal Himself. One example of this IMO that isn't really mentioned in the bible was at the crucifixion when darkness came over the land from the six hour until the ninth hour, God was concealing Himself in that darkness yet God was near.

John is using terms "light and darkness" as "good and evil".
So he is basically saying that there is no evil in God.

Verses from the OT regarding God dwelling in darkness are saying a different thing - that God is not accessible or visible.

Like wise, most excellent response,,, :)

Very good point, in my opinion the fleshly eyes are not strong enough to handle such a view, for man may view as a delight or man may view as a fright, surely God wouldn't place such a dilemma on people's hearts...

Good thread my friend, I've enjoyed the conversation for sure... :)
