Surely you've heard it or seen it in writing...someone quoting the Bible and taking a verse out of context and just torturing it's meaning.

You either laughed because you thought it was so incredible that someone could misunderstand a verse(s) that bad, or you were frustrated beyond belief that the verse was so badly misinterpreted.

One that frustrates me...

Usually it's just quoted as "Do not judge", but sometimes the whole verse is quoted "Do not judge, or you too will be judged."(Matthew 7:1).

Typically, the person misquoting the verse is judging that someone else has done something wrong, and has therefore already violated his/her incorrect interpretation of the verse.

I wonder how many of those who misinterpret Matthew 7:1 realize that verse 6 gets real judgmental and calls people pigs and dogs?

Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. -Matthew 7:6

Nods ... I hear you ... context is essential.

****

On another note .... out of context? lol

God has used the unendearing terms of Dogs, Pigs and Cow's (of Bashan)! ...

But He is perfect ...

He says "leave vengeance to me" ...because we are not wise enough, pure enough, good enough to do it ourselves.

I wouldn't dare call anyone one of those names outright myself ... I feel convicted just thinking about it! :)
