I was just wondering what everyones favorite parable is?
There are a lot and I know for me a few of them really stand out to me and my life.

Mine would have to be The Lost Sheep.

Matthew 18:12-14 KJV

How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.

It helped me understand even though I messed up for a while God still loves me.

So what is your favorite and why do you love it so much?

And I love this one too, because to me it says that not only does he love you, but he will come after you. Because you are his beloved he will lovingly guide you home. And for some of us (very blind and rebellious) he suffers to chasten us until our eyes are opened, and our hooves are scorched and we run back to the flock and hide in the middle. (haha, me) Great post.

The parable of the talents really spoke to me, I used to just keep what I knew to myself, one day had a debate with some guy and basically kept my mouth shut, went home opened my book randomly and read this:

Mattithyah 25:14, "For the Kingdom of Yahweh will be like a man going on a journey into a far country, who summoned his own servants, and handed his possessions over to them. To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one--to each according to his ability--and immediately went on his journey. Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made with them five more talents. He who had received two did the same, and also gained two more. But he who had received one, went and dug in the earth, and hid his ruler's money. After a long time the ruler of those servants came and settled accounts with them. Then he who had received five talents came forward and brought five other talents, saying; Ruler, you handed me five talents. Behold, I have gained five other talents above those. His ruler said to him; Well done, righteous and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your ruler! He also who had received two talents came forward, and said; Ruler, you handed me two talents. Behold, I have gained two other talents above those. His ruler said to him; Well done, righteous and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your ruler! Then he who had received the one talent came forward, and said; Ruler, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping
where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the earth. See, you have what belongs to you. His ruler answered, and said to him; You wicked and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed, So you ought to have lent my money to the exchangers, and at least at my coming I could have received my own with interest! Therefore, take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents-- For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away-- And cast the unprofitable servant into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

Safe to say my eyes welled up a nit, and I asked for mercy, and realized, I had not been shown what I have so I could sit on it like I was hatching an egg, but rather to share with others who had also been misled by Babylon... When I am down I remember that I have not been taken this far for nothing.

Parable of the pit.

In John 9 Jesus, who has just referred to himself as the “light of the world” and the “light of life,” walks out of the temple in Jerusalem at the end of the Feast of Tabernacles. Outside of the temple he and his disciples see a beggar who has been blind from birth.

Blind people, during ancient times, were often reduced to living outside the city and coming in to beg for food and money. They were marginalized and ostracized. This only added great inner suffering to their already-difficult physical condition.

Jesus and his disciples stop in front of this blind beggar and begin to talk. The disciples ask, regarding the blind man, “Who sinned – this man or his parents?” They assumed, as did many people during that time, that there was some kind of cause-effect relationship between illness and sin. Imagine the blind man listening to all of this. Surely he’s heard it before. He already feels bad enough, being blind and begging to make a living.

Then Jesus says words that, even though he couldn’t see, must have filled him with hope. Jesus said, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned.” Then, Jesus heals the man. The man, instead of being a rejected thing, eventually becomes a follower and worshiper of Jesus. He is set free physically, economically (no more begging for money) and, most importantly, emotionally and spiritually.

The point I love about this story is that Jesus here rejects the theological speculation and dialogue the disciples want to engage in and says, “Forget that stuff. It’s time to do the work of God!” Which is, precisely, to do things like heal blind people and set oppressed people free. This reminds of something called “The Parable of the Pit,” It goes like this.

A man fell into a pit and couldn’t get himself out.

1. A subjective person came along and said, “I feel for you down there.”

2. An objective person came along and said, “It’s logical that someone would fall down into that pit.”

3. A Pharisee said, “Only bad people fall into a pit.”

4. Confucius said, “If you would have listened to me you wouldn’t be in that pit.”

5. Buddha said, “Your pit is only a state of mind.”

6. A realist said, “Now that’s a pit!”

7. A scientist calculated the pressure necessary, pounds and square inches, to get him out of the pit.

8. A geologist told him to appreciate and study the rock strata in the pit.

9. An evolutionist said, “You will die in the pit so you can’t produce any more pit-falling offspring.”

10. The country inspector said, “Did you have a permit to dig that pit?”

11. A professor gave him a lecture on the elementary principles of the pit.

12. A self-pitying person said, “You haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen my pit!”

13. An optimist said, “Things could get worse.”

14. A pessimist said, “Things are going to get worse.”

But Jesus saw the man in the pit, took him by the hand, and lifted him out.

Yup this is a beautiful one as well.
It also helped me learn to share with others what God had shown me. :)
Thanks for sharing!

I love those moments where you just open your bible and start reading and it immediately becomes applicable to what's been going on in your life.

I'm sorry Pres, I just had to.

My favorite is the Parable of the Tares in Matt 13. It explains how and when Satan put his seed on earth. It is also the ONLY parable Jesus had to explain to His disciples and therefore putting an emphasis on its importance.

It just dawned on me that some English versions of the Bible have changed the word Tares for Weeds. To know the difference between a weed and a tare is important. A tare is a plant that very closely resembles wheat when growing. At maturity the tare stands straight up and will not bow as wheat does. The grain of the tare is very bitter tasting as well as toxic. Once again, knowing the truth of a matter makes all the difference. One more thing...the grain of the tare is black .

My favorite parable has always been "The Prodigal Son" (for many reasons).

I put together the video below using the Prodigal Son Parable scene from the movie "Jesus of Nazareth" (for me, this scene is the single greatest scene in cinematic history).

Pesley: 'Jesus' means Savior and the parable of the lost sheep that the shepherd personally seeks and finds is very much a reminder to each believer that He is personally our Savior - my Savior.

Blessings.

Even worse, her adorable name is 'Prestley' :)

Presley was this king of rock n roll guy. haha
Have I really been spelling her name wrong for all this time?

Prestley is a very thoughtful, Christian young lady.
