Hi, this is might be an easy question for someone mature in the Lord, but what does the word partakers of the Holy Ghost in Hebrews 6 refer to?, I have problems understanding this verse, english is not my first language so not sure what partakers means?

Thanks

Hebrews 6:4
For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost

I guess my question is do those that Hebrews talks were made partakers of the Holy Spirit , were actually people baptized in the Holy Spirit, or just those people who observe the work of the Holy Spirit manifested in other believers, ??

[SUP]

Partakers of the Holy Ghost, simply means those who know the Holy Ghost/Spirit. This is one of the problems for people trying to understand the King James, read another version for a more clearer understanding. Here we have the NIV:

4 [/SUP]It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, [SUP]5 [/SUP]who have tasted the goodnessof the word of God and the powers of the coming age [SUP]6 [/SUP]and who have fallen[SUP][c][/SUP] away, to be brought back to repentance[SUP].[/SUP] To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

This passage is basically saying that a person can not loose salvation through dis-beleif or apostasy . It is a hypothetical scene where the author is telling us what can happen if a person falls away, it is also pointing out what will happen if people return to Judaism and reject the teaching of CHrist and HOly SPirit.

Does anyone have a different input of what partakers word mean in context?

It means you were fortunate enough to have played a part in some kind of divine intervention.
The worker or accessory to a work of brotherly love.
You should be able to identify with the feeling.
Since you first knew it, it has been impossible for you to disbelieve.

If you did, you would be attributing a miraculous good work to something besides God, like an unclean spirit, or gravity, like something falling away, but you and God won't let that happen will you?
To do so would be to crucify Christ a second time, like the pharisees did the first when they insisted He was blasphemous or demon possessed.

hes describing someone who was deeply in the lord and then they fell away. anyone who "tasted the heavenly gift" (idk what that means) shared in the holy spirit and tasted the goodness of God and the powers of the coming age. if you fall away after youve seen all those things, you cannot be brought back to repentance.
