Today is Pentacost Sunday. 50 days after the Resurrection of Our Lord, 10 days after his ascension, the Power of the Holy Spirit came upon the 120. Acts chapter 2.

Jesus said you will receive Power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you to be a witness.

Now, the word "Witness" there in Greek is Martyr.
But I would like to focus on the part about what it means to be a Witness and why they need power.

Jesus said you shall receive Power to be an effective witness of HIM Acts 1:8 . What are we witnessing?

Well, it is the Resurrection of Christ.

The Gospel message is and has always been; according to 1 Cor 15:3-4, the gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Apostles were killed because they would not deny That Jesus rose from the dead.

The power of the Holy Spirit gave them the ability to bear witness Jesus was alive because no other miracle was done without that name. Confirming by the power of God, Jesus was alive and who he said HE is Lord.

Acts 4:33
33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.

This same Jesus, who is alive today, is still empowering his People for effective witnessing and still confirming that HE is alive with HIS word, signs, and Wonders.

Mark 16:15-18

15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

This all started after the day of Pentacost. Luke chapter 24 says :44-49

44 Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

46Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And you are witnesses of these things.

49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

The waiting is over. He is Here for you, Our Lord. Ask Him to Baptize you in the Holy Spirit and power. As John chapter 1 states, He is the One who baptized the Holy Ghost and fire.

Dear Lord, empower your people as we need you to be an effective witness of your death, burial, and Resurrection. We seek you and not the gifts but the gifts to be used to glorify you. We seek to do the work you called us to do. But apart from you, we can do nothing. Baptize me, Lord, with the Holy Spirit and empower me to be a witness of you and your resurrection. In Jesus' name, I pray, amen.

May 19, 2024 is certainly not the correct day to celebrate Pentecost. Not the 7th week after Easter. Even Israel does not celebrate Pentecost on a timely basis because they count 50 days after the day of Passover. on Sivan 6th.

Lev 23:15 “And you shall count from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven full weeks shall they be, 16 counting fifty days to the morrow after the seventh sabbath;

The correct dating for Pentecost is June 16th on year 2024

From the Sabbath day after the Day of Passover you count 7 more Sabbaths.

I said 'If I am not mistaken' so no need to rap me on the hand with a spiritual stick and no reason to be so defensive

but lets' just get the gifts of the Spirit straightened out, shall we? Do you believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit or only some of them?

let's start there :giggle:

We don't celebrate "that day" as if it can only happen on "that day". It really doesn't matter if the day is right if the teaching is right.
The Holy Spirit could baptize you on April Fool's day if you're seeking the Lord on that day.
The point is "do you want all God has for you?"
Are you seeking the Lord as a servant should?
Are you willing to be "servant of all?"

I suppose its not the question that the Holy Spirit gives the gifts as the bible says.
Its the question how it is taught since 1900 in some Christian movements. Which makes it difficult to believe that certain gifts are still there which were not there after the apostolic time.

I believe in all the gifts and yes they do exist today.

But you refrain from discussing Pentecost which was the subject of this thread

Also you are taking away from scripture by denying the timing of Pentecost

Thank you for your input as to the actual day; however, we are talking about the one that happened 2000 Years ago that was not on June 16th of 2024.

This thread is about the event that happened that was recorded in the Book of Acts chapter 2. Jesus said in Acts 1:8 You shall receive power after the Holy Ghost comes upon you, and you shall be my witnesses.

The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentacost seen in the Book of Acts doesn't
have to happen on June 16, 2024. why?

Because He is already here and has not stopped pouring out HIS Spirit. There is no waiting; there is no tarrying.

First, this thread is about why the empowering of the Holy Spirit is needed, as Jesus said to wait for and not preach until you HAVE BEEN EMPOWERED FROM ON HIGH. FYI, Acts chapters 1 and 2 were not written in the 1900's. And this thread is not about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is about the power to be a witness of the resurrected Lord. I know you are a person who likes to interject false narratives; that is okay, but go create your own thread to do so.

As you can see below, there is nothing about the gifts of the Holy Spirit from 1cor, in chapters 12 to 14. Try to stay on topic.

I disagree :) My Thread is not about Pentacost but about the Empowering of the Holy Spirit, which happens in Acts chapter 2 on the day of Pentacost. and what was the reason why?
I provided the text and passages to support the understanding that the empowering of the Holy Spirit is not for Tongues, healing, or prophesying. It is to be a witness, as Jesus said, and what are we witnessing to?

this why legalism is funny

Jesus died and rose again HR stayed 40 after his resurrection FYI there is no date given in the word of God. He ascended on thr 40th day what ever month or year we do not know fully. 10 DAYS LATER The Holy Spirit empowered the body of Christ and the church age was born.

How do we know this?

ACTS 1:3 to whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

1COR 15

” as recorded in Leviticus 23:15-27, Is a clear, scriptural picture of the “fifty days” between the offering of Christ on the cross (Matthew 27:33-50) and the “day of Pentecost” (Acts 2:1, Acts 20:16, and I Corinthians 16:8). This explains why there had to be fifty days, no more and no less, between the resurrection and the day of Pentecost. Hence, the language of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:1, “When the day of Pentecost was fully come.”

All the recorded events of the first chapter of Acts took place during these fifty days between the resurrection and Pentecost. Forty of these days were taken up by the Lord in His ministry with the disciples whom He had chosen.

He “showed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: and, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which saith He, ye have heard of Me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.” After His ascension, the apostles waited exactly ten days for the fulfillment of this promise.

40 + 10 = 50

Easter was celebrated on March 31st, 2014, and 50 days later, on May 19, 2024. Today at church, I recognized and remembered the Lord's death, Burial, and Resurrection, the empowering of the only Spirit to be a Witness of the Resurrected Lord.

If you have an issue with that edification and remembrance........ too bad. :)

the significance between the NT Pentecost is juxtaposed with the significant of Shavuot, which is commonly considered to be the day on which the Torah was revealed by God to the Israelite nation on Mount Sinai (although Shavuot is not explicitly named as that day in the Bible (Wikipedia, Shavuot; Significance). '
The giving of the torah happened once, and Shavuot (which means "weeks") commemorates that event (and so happens to begin on June 11th this year and ends on June 13th counting 7 weeks from Passover)
and, likewise, Pentecost commemorates the giving of the Holy Spirit.

If you will forgive my brainstorming as I consider the ramifications of the significance of the topic....
the former commemorates God writing on tablets of stone
and the latter commemorates God writing on the tablets of individual's hearts.
Then, the stone tablets were shattered after the initial writing and another set was made.
Now, the heart is initially broken and then created from scratch (create in me a new heart)
