should we be overly 'hung up' on one thing, to the detriment of our souls?
It's just a discussion though.Have you ever listened to or read the book by the preacher/teacher Andrew Wommack called Spirit Soul And Body?Quite enlightening.

So then you believe the thief on the cross did spiritual work by believing and that means that If he hadn’t done spiritual WORK faith without WORKS Is dead to GOD,right?
I believe the thief believed in his heart and expressed his belief verbally.

Are you are saying that his outward expression was work,I guess spiritual work?
Could I say then that you are saying that faith without physical or spiritual work Is dead to GOD?
I'm not talking about living holy In day to day life showing your faith By your works to men like Apostle James was talking about,I'm talking about does GOD have to see your works before he accounts you righteous
I don't know how to respond to this. You seem to be making it more complicated than it is.

Thanks for the reply. I've been praying about it before answering.

I've not even taken Baptism into account because the scripture doesn't say anything about him being baptized so I don't want to infer anything like that.

I think the main thing to take from the scripture on this is the thief had true saving faith. That is where the change came in. He believed and asked that the Lord remember him when he went into his kingdom. He didn't do like the other thief and ask that Jesus save his life and save himself.

See the other thief wasn't concerned with the will of God or anything spiritual...he was only concerned with Jesus saving his own life. He didn't have faith in Jesus and was saying pretty much the only way he would believe is if the Lord would do a miracle and save his earthly life.

The thief that went to paradise had a true saving faith that brought about a change in him.
“And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:5, 14-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭23:40-43‬ ‭KJV‬‬

would you say he had heard and believed the gospel of the kingdom ? And he was in Jerusalem where everyone went to get baptized prior

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;

but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:16‬ ‭

I would say one malefactor believed and the other malefactor didn’t. The baptism part is true we don’t see him himself being baptized but we don’t see many being baptized individually but all the area all the Jews had been waiting for hundreds of years for John to start baptizing for remission . I’d say he was , but I agree there is no specific scripture

he was in that area for sure because he’s being executed in Jerusalem he was not Roman they weren’t crucified along side Jews only other Romans I was saying about baptism earlier there is some evidence he was most likely baptized we know for sure he heard Jesus teaching about his kingdom and believed because that’s his request when he came into his kingdom

“Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭3:5-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I’d say and it’s only my thought he was saved the same as anyone is by believing the gospel of Gods kingdom

1.)Did the thief on the cross do spiritual works
2.)Did the thief on the cross do physical works
3.)Did the thief on the cross do any works
the thief on the cross believes this

“Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:14-15‬ ‭KJV‬

and so you see he received this

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭23:42-43‬ ‭KJV‬‬

that’s the requirement to believe the word of Jesus Christ that’s why he knew he was the lord and why he asked to be welcomed into the kingdom even though he knew he was about to die

he wasn’t asking Jesus to save him from the cross he was asking about the eternal life Jesus had been preaching , and believed it he apparently understood it much more than other Jews who were waiting for an earthly rebellion and overthrow of Rome by the messiah

the requirement even though you are stick on “ no works “ the requirement is what Jesus said it is and the thief met the requirement he believed the true gospel of the kingdom of God and that’s why he wasn’t told “ at the end when the dead are raised I’ll save you “ no, he was given the eternal life that only Jesus can give so as he suffered and died that same day he lived in glory with the lord forever

Works is vastly miss stated concerning the Bible.
The Bible teaches that no one can achieve eternal salvation by works. Example a billionaire cannot give the church a million dollars a month and be a sinner and achieve eternal salvation. Precisely what the Bible is addressing when mentioning works with caution.

yet you consistently express the opposite

here is one of your posts where you state that works are necessary for salvation. don't bother saying that people say that you can live a sinful life...no one has ever said that in this forum that I am aware of and in all my years as a Christian (saved since 5) I have NEVER hear anyone say or teach that, that actually does adhere to the Bible

YOU say baptism is a work without which no one is saved

that is contrary to the Bible and you teach that.

"peldom10, post: 4648059, member: 297561"]All that have been reworded, we written, massaged, etc., under the umbrella that they are easier to read.
Hogwash.

There is only three things we need to know from scriptures to be eligible for eternal salvation (saved);
1 Repentance
2 Baptism
3 Live a righteous life according o God's commandments....some 50 + of them....when I last counted.

Who cannot understand that, in the 1611 KJV version of the Bible presented in a way that a child of 10 can understand.

Show me your faith without works, and I will show you faith that works...

James 2:18
Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. ~KJV

And the primary work of God is to believe in his Son, our Lord Christ Jesus...

John 6:29
Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. ~KJV
But it in James it also says, "Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world. " James 1:27

We also see what God considers as worthy of salvation in the story of the sheep and goats.

Mathew 25
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

I think that if God can't see that someone has faith without their works then He is omniscient (all knowing.) I believe God does know everything, past-present-furure. I think works only prove to ourselves and other people how genuine our faith is, but I can't see how God requires works to prove faith.
In the poll would you have voted for faith WITHOUT doing works Is alive to GOD?

I know that faith without works Is dead to man because man can only see another mans actions but GOD looks at the heart.

But declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance.

Hebrews 13:21 KJV -
..... Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

We don't know because the Bible doesn't tell us.

He could have done deeds/works...become a backslider and with Christ was......... renewed.....

Is the good works done before a person gets saved acceptable to GOD or does repentance matter most to GOD?
Luke 18:10-14
King James Version

10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

I was wondering what the majority of the community thought about this question.
This is a statement without context... there are different kinds of faith.. faith at salvation and faith after. James has examples mostly after salvation

What would be your answer about how [ GOD ] would look at It?
Abraham..offering his son Isaac.. example of his relationship with God.. having been saved by God earlier. His act was justified before God.. but it wasn't the justification for eternal salvation.

Rehab.. demonstration of faith already existing..

Same with the other examples.

They could have not done the things they did.. didn't mean God hadn't saved them earlier.

'The faith' after salvation, without works is unused.. useless.. dead..

Saving faith.. without works.. is how its supposed to be!

God knows all things and our works do not make us good or worthy of salvation.
We can not do anything (no works) to gain salvation.
We are saved by faith alone.
True faith will have fruits (works and actions and words) that reflect our belief.
If we we say we believe Jesus is returning soon and our life shows that we don't expect Him to return for 100 years, our works are not reflecting our confessed faith.
Faith and works can not be seperated. They go hand in hand with each other.

Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
1Jn 5: 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Faith and overcoming go hand in hand.
It is a process but by faith we grow into Gods image.
