what's happening in Amos chapter 3?

the OT prophets functioned primarily as covenant prosecutors, or enforcers, if you will, prosecuting Israel when she broke the terms of the covenant. chapter 3 and following are oracles of woe against Israel for breaking their covenant, and a call to repentance, and a promise of restoration if they did repent.

i don't pretend to know what God will do, but i do know we have received "in Son" revelation (Heb 1).
that will always be supreme revelation.

Surely the Lord God does nothing, without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets. Amos 3:7

Do you believe this scripture applies to our age??
No. God now speaks to us through the Son.

"God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they."

And He is still speaking...

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you."

From the Father to the Son to the Spirit to men in Christ.

Of course. The Gift of Prophecy is still active in 2023.

And just as it was in Paul's time there are PHONIES coming out of the woodwork.

Anybody who commits resources on the basis of an unconfirmed prophesy IS A FOOL!!!

How many here went before the Lord and asked for the gift of prophecy?? What did you ask for?? How long ago was it?? What have you received?? Do you feel the Lord answered your prayer? and how?

I think the age of the prophets is gone but the gift of prophecy is still alive, I have never asked for any gifts but the one I have received could be described as a gift of knowledge of things to come, I do not get these insights often but when I do, I know it will happen and always does. I always had this gift but when i was younger I dismissed it but I was wrong to do so.

the gift I have corresponds to this verse from John;

Jhn 16:13 However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come..

Blessings.

So, you believe the gifts of the spirit are dead?
What gave you that idea?

I wrote: "From the Father to the Son to the Spirit to men in Christ."

Your original position was the quote from Amos: "Surely the Lord God does nothing, without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets."

The Father does not keep secrets from the Son. The Son, likewise, shares what He has been given to the Spirit. The Spirit then shares what He's been given to the men in Christ. These people in Christ make up the corporate Son, the many-membered Christ.

This was the reference from where John wrote the following:

"But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him."

It is not that we do not need teachers (as Pentecostals say) it is the principle that the corporate Son receives everything He needs from the Father.

What can you share that nobody else has received?
the things past are past so no point describing them what i received that is to come is that Jacob's trouble is coming soon, this prophecy was already given but I know it is for soon I was warned about this many consecutive days, these words flashing in my mind many many times during the day it came... it corresponds to the return of Christ..I was not told when bit i know it is within this generation. when I had this revelation, I did not remember what this prophecy was. I had to look it up

Omegatime's Questions:

1.) "How many here went before the Lord and asked for the gift of prophecy?"
I don't recall anyone in the New Testament asking for the gift of prophecy... I only recall God giving gifts out as he sees fit.

2.) "What did you ask for?"
Is this to imply that you have to ask a certain way, or say certain words, to receive spiritual gifts?
If so, that seems out of alignment with scripture.

3.) "How long ago was it?"
I can't see how that's relevant, or how it's addressed in scripture.
- Do our prayers have an expiration date?
- Do our spiritual gifts have an expiration date?

4.) "What have you received?"
It's unclear if this is a question about receiving the gift of prophey, or receiving particular prophecies with that gift, or something else... the question is unclear.
- It also seems irrelevant.
- Why? If God gives out gifts as he sees fit, then whether or not an individual received a particular gift would have no bearing on doctrine.

5.) "Do you feel the Lord answered your prayer?"
I believe God answers all of my prayers, and all prayers in general, but not always in the affirmative - he's sovereign and can answer our requests however he sees fit.

6.) "How?"
God is actually obligated by his perfection to answer all of our prayers in different ways, as he feels is best for us - if a child asked for a helicopter you wouldn't give it to him, he'd harm himself.

.
CONCLUSION: Strange Debate Strategy:
1.)
It seems like a strange debate strategy, when debating doctrine and scripture, to leave scripture behind and and start asking people odd questions about their personal lives.
2.) Why? Because any individual, lost or saved, could CLAIM, with their words, VIRTUALLY ANYTHING about their personal life... and that doesn't PROVE anything about scripture or doctrine.
3.) We study scripture and doctrine by going to scripture... not by asking people about their personal lives or personal feelings.

I found you worthy as maybe I can add to your understanding. Jacob's trouble concerns Israel and happens for 42 months between the time the antichrist takes his seat in the temple of God till the end of the Tribulation which includes the bowl judgements. You are also correct in saying it will be this generation and the return of Christ for his saints happens during this time.

Thank you, what you wrote helps as I thought initially when I got this "insight" that Jacob's trouble was a prophecy to be after the millennium of Christ on earth, but it has to be soon. it confirms what i am thinking now, I still have a lot to learn about this but we have scripture also to guide us.

Blessings.

Very analytical mind, let go of the logic for a bit. The questions asked are pertinent as we are in the end times, people are having visions and dreams, why not share? I get your point no 2. clearly is is why i do not discuss normally. I agree with point no 3., scripture is the go to for the truth. As for point no 1., why have a debate strategy? can't a few questions suffice? This is an informal forum is it not? Should we not encourage each other in faith?

Blessings.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; Romans 12:6

Make love your aim, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. 1 Cor 14:1

Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. 1 Cor 2:12

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;

8 To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

Surely the Lord God does nothing, without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets. Amos 3:7

Do you believe this scripture applies to our age??
It applies to our age now more than ever. The problem is that false prophets have been so abundant for years now that most have a sort instinctive doubt we are very wary and have our guard up because we have to or else we might let ourselves be deceived

Youtube is a breeding ground for such people even when I was only three years into my faith and had not yet learned discernment these prophets on youtube damaged me to where I had lost a part of me God would still be hinting at the end times to me he would still give me things but I was burned out from all these false prophets always ending up being wrong and then saying things like God is giving more time for repentance or something.

The real prophets do not give a word from him almost every day, they are not even for the most part out in the open you don't see many online claimintgt to be prophets on forums which in my opinion is more stable than facebook but the ones who do have to accept that no matter what you will be considered a false prophet by some that just comes with the job you will be attacked you will be mocked you will endure in order to serve God in the role he has bestowed you.

But the thing is without bringing honor to God there is no point so the real prophets do so with this embedded in their hearts. However many for the time being are hidden in plain site but not revealing themselves for not only obvious reasons but also because we are on the cusp of massive change in this world and when the time comes what God has proclaimed through his prophets will come to pass regardless if anyone believed or listened, and for the prophets who have been bruised and beaten in their service well I imagine he has a special gift for such people. Many do not consider what a prophet has to go through not even the spiritual attacks that come with serving him like this but God does.

Whatever God wanted to reveal to men through His prophets is ALREADY embedded in Scripture. So that would apply to this age in that all we have to do is study the prophesies given in the Bible. The majority (or possibly all) those claiming to be prophets today are false prophets.
