They are not contrary to the teaching of Christ.
Turning our enemies over to God for him to deal with is exactly according to Jesus. We dont take things into our hands but deliver them over to God.
Jesus said for us to pray "deliver us from evil".
Need an emoji for to indicate conflicting viewpoints maybe? I'm new here and seems that you are both more versed in these matters so hash it out. And may the most erudite win. Unless someone invokes divine guidance and interjects.

Imprecatory Psalms - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org › wiki › Imprecatory_Psalms

Imprecatory Psalms, contained within the Book of Psalms of the Hebrew Bible (Hebrew: תנ"ך), are those that imprecate – invoke judgment, calamity or curses ...
Imprecations elsewhere in the... · ‎Old Testament · ‎Context and meaning
I realize you find fault with wikipedia so you correct this where it is in error.
They are the Psalmist asking God for justice. For the delivery of the wicked over to God for his judgement. Rather than taking things into his own hands.

Keep in mind the psalms were songs... there is music that goes with them....

Music really changes everything... provokes even more emotion to the words written, spoken or sung...

The simple phrase "I love you" spoken is nice but, if someone sings "I love you" to you... changes everything... so much more heart to heart... so much more emotional depth.(y)

We should sing to the LORD more!

Well its very simple. Jesus is the word; John chapter 1, the words of those Psalms are scripture for us; given to us, breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work; 2 Timothy chapter 3. Then therr can be no contradiction. They are profitable to us.

If, as you say, it is so simple, why are not all people Christian? Prior to signing on to this chat I would listen to recordings of Charles Spurgeon, and just to make it clear, done by Charles Koelsch. Some of the messages would start out by stating that he, Spurgeon, would deliver a very basic or introductory type of teaching. I now realize that the Bible itself speaks of Spiritual things being understood only by those blessed with the Spirit. At least this is now my understanding and experience. As I have somewhat been able to set aside self and pray in earnest the messages are more readily received. But as I started to say, early on I would play a recording several times and still not comprehend the message regardless of how simple it apparently seemed to Charles Spurgeon. So is it Spirit of is it erudition that is needed?

I was only referring to the subject of certain psalms seemingly contradicting Jesus.
Not the whole matter of Christianity.
But scripture is not a closed book. When read and heard, the Holy Spirit inhabits those words and make them alive and effective.

When I pray, I ask for an opening of my eyes to see the truth, an opening of my ears to hear the truth and an opening of my mind to comprehend the truth and sometime a softening of my heart to feel the truth. Possibly I am in error here but that is the way I read some of the Gospel as John recorded it. According to what you say the words are inhabited by the Holy Spirit. Am I misinterpreting the passages in the Gospel as John recorded it in chapters 14-16 I believe. I still have mental blocks in recalling verses but am quite certain regarding the chapters here.

Singing our prayers to God... how many of us do that?! I think I am inspired now for a new way of praying... I know God hears my heart when I pray but, what if He heard my voice singing to Him.... I think God would enjoy it very much!(y)

I play the guitar a bit and think about David making music. David's instrument however says 10 strings and I either have 6 or 12. Unfortunately my singing is terrible. Even so I don't think God minds. But I do. It is not easy for me to especially play guitar and sing. One or the other. I think God prefers the guitar from me since it sounds pretty nice at times. So you sing and I'll play. I'll bet the
angels hear it too.

Music and their lyrics can be the speaking of our heart of worship and love to our Lover.

If we we have a worshipful heart most of the the time, have been forgiven, my experience is the pleasure of His company, at His choosing, but frequently.

I think God loves both. Your guitar playing to honor him and your singing to him. Keep practicing you singing that is how you get better.

I love the Psalms! Back in about 2002. I was extremely depressed, I was in agonizing pain, because my RA meds weren't strong enough. Two Word Faith friends told me my not being healed was because I lacked faith. I had great faith, but according to their teachers, Kenneth Copeland, etc, my problem was not enough faith. The woman friend got breast cancer a few years later. She had her breast cut off, but refused chemo & radiation, because God had "already healed" her. She died a year later, when the cancer metastasized into her brain, going insane before she died. The man friend ended up almost dying of an enlarged prostate. A friend found him unconscious on the floor, rushed him to the hospital where he was operated on, and he is alive and doing well at age 93.
So much for having faith to be healed. I do believe God heals, when that is his will.

Back to my depressed days, I turned my back on God, the church prayer and Bible studies, etc. God never left me in the 2 years I went through that. But finally, God started nudging me to read the Psalms daily. Five Psalms a day, to be exact. I had heard Billy Graham read 5 Psalms a day. And I did. 5 a day, gets you through 150 Psalms in a 30 day month. I continued to do that for 2 years, or 24 times straight through the book of Psalms.

Between my husband and his "If you aren't perfect, you are not a Christian," & my friends discouragement, I had developed a very bitter attitude towards Christian's. I knew I would never be sinless in this life, or perfect enough for God. (I thought that is why God planned to send Jesus?) But the Psalms introduced me to God's people. They weren't perfect, arrogant heroes of gigantic faith. In fact, they struggled, had trials and temptations. They went astray, but then returned to God to repent!! They were weak, unfocused - just normal people. No super heroes. They got mad at God, but then, they would see God's hand in their lives, and they would start rejoicing & praising God. There are many imprecatory Psalms- but only 1- Psalm 88 above, never resolved itself. But the other 149 Psalms, always resolved to praise God & thank him. My twisted idea about what a Christian is, was gone!! So much, that I started reading the Bible straight through again, found a good church, and began praying again. About a year after that, God called me to seminary. Not to become a pastor, but to understand the Bible, learn skills for ministry, original languages and do much more. I did work as a chaplain but had to quit when my RA meds failed, and I didn't have my RA under control.

At any rate,, I would urge everyone to read 5 Psalms a day for set time. It was one of the most beneficial things I have done in my 42 years of serving Christ. Here's some songs based on the Psalms!

Psalm 8

Psalm 23

Psalm 1

At my church each Sunday we sing a psalm set to the tune of a hymn. A different psalm each week. I love it. There is also a guy I listen to who sings the psalms acapella more like a chant but I find it to be a beautiful thing. I need to reincorporate that into my morning worship again.

Psalms is a great subject. I think we all Love the Psalms. I get a melody in my heart simply talking about them.
I have a dream project in my mind but I dont have the time or money or resources to do. I want to produce the entire Bible in song format. Probably starting with the Psalms. Set to some folk style music mostly. Different styles would be good.

Thnx for comments and I am going to post a Psalm here on occasion. In AA people would say GOD, meant Good Orderly Direction, Don't expect that from me or in this post. I am lucky to read thru one Psalm at a time. However, I have on occasion read possibly 10 at one time. I get more by going slow and praying a Psalm and meditating.

The Lord Reigns!
(Psalm 93:1-5)

1The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved.

2The LORD is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people. (Zion....future time say some??? if Zion then Lord is Jesus???)

3Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy.

4The king's strength also loveth judgment; thou dost establish equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob.
(vs 4.....judgement when????.....2nd Advent?....by who?...Jesus....vs 4 again future time????.......&JACOB?????)

5Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.

6Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the LORD, and he answered them.
(Recalling events?...&vs8...'thou wast'......God past same as God future? God is Jesus here to???)

7He spake unto them in the cloudy pillar: they kept his testimonies, and the ordinance that he gave them.

8Thou answeredst them, O LORD our God: thou wast a God that forgavest them, though thou tookest vengeance of their inventions.

9Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy.

This is Psalm 99. I missed putting that in the header and apparently it resembles psalm 93.

Seems to me Psalm 99 is both prophetic and contemplative. Seems prophetic of time yet to come. i.e. 2nd Advent......Seems that Psalmist is reflecting on God's (Jesus) interactions with people. i.e. vs 6-8 The people called on Him and he answered. Mentions certain specific individuals and offices but whether others are excluded is not clear to me, as the individuals cited are "........among them that call upon his name;......."vs 6 If the office of priest and ? existed at the time it is possible the access to talk (pray) to God was limited to specific individuals. Not today!!!!!!????

PSALM 100

Shout for Joy to the Lord, All You Lands!

1{A Psalm of praise.} Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.

2Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

3Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

5For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Psalm 100 is a celebratory Psalm.......Possibly used in the temple in Jerusalem with singing and accompanied with instruments

Also Indicates will be used after 2nd Advent as 'all ye lands' includes Gentiles. The whole earth.

Line 3 Indicates subjection of man's pride to the Will of God.......Yeshua is likely here and again needs be post 2nd Advent

Lines 4-5 Those who enter His gates for eternity will be worshipful and thankful ........post 2nd Advent again

A joyous occasion overall and something to look forward to with delight.
