Great to see you back here, Brother! Your thread made me think of something. I visited a nursing home yesterday and the activities director told me once a week a pastor visits the residents and tells them they're all going to hell. I'll be there next week when he shows up. I don't want to argue with him, but make no mistake, I'll be sharing God's love and grace with this pastor's victims.
Thanks Utah! Like I said though I was quite discouraged when I saw the same arguments being rehashed from 5 months ago. And one was started by someone who had started that same subject at least twice before and there was already a forum on that subject. Yeah I fell back into the trap again and I apologize for it. But it is hard to just sit and watch a false teaching being taught without me speaking up. Not everything I said was all that great but, really the same thing again?

And Tintin is right.."much of BDF is hellish by nature. It's not good." There is so much to study in God's Word yet we bring up the same subjects constantly so we can show how "much we know". So we can lift up our knowledge of God. The blood of Christ has been buried so deep in legalistic arguments that it is now a whitewashed fence to coral us not save us.

Yes, I work with the elderly and we can learn a lot from these aged human beings. There are things you can only learn from 'being around' for a while. Investing in people is not an easy thing to do and becoming friends like you said Willie is what is needed. I'm constantly reminded of my lack in this area. Even when we are working at our jobs, we are called to minister by our actions towards those around us.

Some of you don't know me and some do. I left this site for 5 months because I was tired of the same stuff rehashed over and over. So what did I come back too? The exact same things!!! Scan the forums and tell me what the percentage is of Bible studies compared to arguments? Shoot there are two forums on OSAS. Stupid me I got caught back up in the same stuff!!! Some here have actually started real Bible studies, inculuding me, and they die off quick. Yet if I were to start a "works" related forum it would spread to hundreds of posts.

I appologize for me getting caught back up in the stuff...again. I appologize too God for me allowing myself to argue points that do not determine my salvation. One thing I won't do tho is appologize for standing up for God's Word and defending the blood of Christ! Only the blood of Christ can save us! Nothing else and no other name...period!!
Come along and sing along to the ole tune; "Where have all the Flowers gone."

Where have most true doctrines gone, long time passing?
Where have most true doctrines gone, long time ago?
Where have most true doctrines gone?
Compromised them everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have most true teachers gone, long time passing?
Where have most true teachers gone, long time ago?
Where have most true teachers gone?
Gone for money everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where has the right Spirit gone, long time passing?
Where has the right Spirit gone, long time ago?
Where has the right Spirit gone?
Reprobates do dominate.
Oh, they will never learn.
Oh, they will never learn.

I'm afraid you both might be missing part of what is needed. I don't think much gets accomplished either way with a "drive-by method of just hitting them with a message. As with so much of our teaching, I think we almost totally neglect to become their friends. Sadly, we sometimes think just "preaching" at people is what Jesus sent us out to do.
I'm not missing it. Personally, I believe that if people are going to go into nursing homes and the like, then there needs to be pretty regular follow up. I'm really not into drive-by shootings, but I've had to employ that method a few times here on this forum already. You know, post and run.

I've been to a few nursing homes and hospitals myself with church groups. What have I witnessed? Well, a lot of nice singing, a lot of loving on folks, some gift giving and a message that basically consists of, Hey, Jesus is the Shepherd...Would you like to be one of His sheep? Then there's a little prayer and everybody leaves for a year. When you come back a year later, what do you see? Nobody's changed in the least bit. Nobody's reading the Bible, nobody's hungering and thirsting for righteousness, etc., etc., etc. Where's the problem? In the patients or in the ministers? It's in the ministers. It's the sick who need a doctor, but too many people are afraid to address the topic of sin. Like I said, I have no problem with love and grace or with the singing, loving and gift giving that I described, but if it leaves people in their same sinful condition when everything is said and done, then it's ultimately useless in the end.
Purge, you're right about sharing grace and correcting where and when needed. The problem I have with the nursing home scenario is that most residents are not living sinful lives -- they're secluded shut ins who are weak, sick, needy, lonely and vulnerable. For those who's faculties are not diminished, much time is spent reflecting on they're lives -- the good, the bad and the ugly. They are remorseful and on bended knee to the Lord. They don't need to be beaten down weekly by a so called minister who has nothing but contempt for people who sinned once upon a time.

I hear you and there's probably a lot of truth to what you just said. Unfortunately, though, some old timers aren't remorseful at all and I don't need to go into nursing homes to witness that. In fact, I'm headed for a family reunion/barbecue shortly because we've got some relatives visiting from Italy and a lot of my own elderly relatives only bend their knees to pick up stones to throw at guys like me. haha. I'm exaggerating slightly, but a lot of people take their rebellion with them right to the grave.

Well, I'm ready for some good barbecue.

I get the frustration. Sadly, the rehashes are the ones who go on eternally too. New concepts, or even different concepts disappear into page three before anyone notices.

(Last night/early this morning the Catholic Heresy post got all the way down to the bottom of page two. I really thought it was going to disappear. And then I wake up this morning and it's back. I used to think it was a sticky post. It's not.)

It WAS stickied at one time. The mods unstickied it in hopes that it would fall back to the nether regions of the forum and die. Fat chance of THAT happening.. :/

I am with you Willie....we put so much on ministers........ what about us lay people? Everyone is a worker for Christ how about adopt a grandparent? We could all do that and just love on them.....

Jesus didn't get to know the entire world while He was here but He concentrated on training a few and showed us by example how to love sinners and correct church people (who thought they knew it all)..... not beat up little ole grandparents over the head telling them that they are going to hell...

Also you need to know your audience....half of the folks are in the home because they can't remember dementia and Alzheimer's possibly they gave their hearts to the Lord in younger years.....where are all the OSAS people when you need them????

I befriended a couple of older ladies becoming friends and helping them out with things they needed at different times in my life and the only thing bad about working with older people is that one day they die on you and a piece of your heart goes missing....That is my only complaint about it.

You are all guilty in this forum. I saw guys bring fresh things here and you all hounded them out. Most of what is said in here is so far from Christ. I see so much attacking for no reason. Its not scriptural. Now lets see how many take offence? I seen so manty threads of you all attacking brothers and sisters. The majority of whats printed here is so un-christ like. Take two weeks off and come back and look at what you said to each other. Its truly shocking. There are more encouraging people in my local pub.

We are all at diferent levels with Christ and when someone talks over your leval you attack them.

Has anyone in here got actual qualifications for teaching? You all talk like you are teachers. Do any in here preach at your church?

Most of what is in here is not that nice.
I agree!!!!!!

I don't think many can argue with you there, brother. There is a big percentage of attacking in the Bible Discussion Forum particularly. Nevertheless Steve, being an example is the only way to overcome the contention. And we can only do that when we step back and ask God how to respond to any given post.

It would be great if we were all in humble submission to God 100% of the time and never having disagreements. But we're all growing in grace and we are all being conformed in Christ's image more and more, one day at a time.

As for being qualified to teach, the Holy Spirit is the One who teaches through us. If you have an issue with that, you'll have to take that up with God. He calls, we answer. That's the name of that tune. The only qualification we need is being God's own. I've learned wise lessons from the Lord speaking through very young people on this site. Age and credentials don't matter to God.

I understand your frustration, as we all get frustrated. Be encouraged, don't let anxiety get the best of you. Rest in Jesus, talk with Him and trust that He is still moving on this site and completing what He started in us.

No sweat, dear brother! *hug* I hope it encourages you to know that the love of Jesus Christ shines through you and you're such a blessing to know. Just remember, God's true word doesn't go out void but accomplishes what He purposes it to do. Blessings of grace to you, elf! :)

I believe that I, and several others, make an honest effort to keep our posts civil and directed at ideas not people..

There are several dynamics on the forum which you have not addressed.

1) professed unbelievers are permitted (and sometimes encouraged) to participate.

2) many clearly heretical posts are not always promptly banned

3) Some who post doctrinal positions which are not mainstream are often both militant and rude in their presentations.

4) Not all members of the forum are at the same level of maturity either Spiritually, mentally, emotionally, or chronologically. Immature people tend to respond immaturely; whether or not they are on a 'Christian' forum

5) Some people (even believers) become emmotionally involved with their own ideas.

All might have been the wrong word there. Sorry about that.
I have noted a few people who have a very godly way of posting. You Mark are one violet and Lady lynn are another two. You three stand out. There are many more two but it takes a little time to notice .
