Jas 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
You beat me to this passage, it says it all. Man did a great job of making things more difficult than intended.

While this article says a lot of good things it missuses the word religion. That is my only point. That is my problem with this generation they change the meaning of words. Religion has become a bad word but the reality is it is not a bad word. Its what the religion consists of that makes it good or bad.

Jesus taught truth, to believe In God and that Jesus was the messiah and that His works on our behalf save us. If you believe that and worship God because of those teachings and uphold those teachings and teach them to others then you are religious teaching a religion. Just happens to be a good one full of truth.
It's not about the "word", it's about the reality of what religion is and what it does....and what it is and what it does is all bad.

True..we can definitely sin by listening to the flesh and we can yield to the sin in the flesh..as Paul say..

Romans 7:17 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.
Romans 7:20-24 (NASB)
[SUP]20 [/SUP] But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.
[SUP]21 [/SUP] I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good.
[SUP]22 [/SUP] For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man,
[SUP]23 [/SUP] but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members.
[SUP]24 [/SUP] Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?
.but our inner man created in righteousness and true holiness in Christ...cannot sin.

1 John 3:9 (KJV)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

1 John 5:18 (NASB)
[SUP]18 [/SUP] We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.

The new creation in Christ cannot sin..not 1 or 1,000of them because that is where Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit dwell.

This new inner man of the heart comes with the understanding of spiritual circumcision of the flesh and heart..Also called the circumcision of Christ. The Holy Spirit "seals" us .

Ephesians 1:13 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,

It's a fastening subject about what happened to us believers when we received Christ..check it out..it will bless you!

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

This verse is speaking to also to people who say that they have no sin..John ws speaking to the gnostics of his day..

Also..there is a difference in scripture between "sin" as an entity in us and in the world....and "sinning"..which is an action stemming from "sin" itself...

It is interesting to study the noun "sin" and then the verb "sinning"...we get a clear picture of the differences...for example in Romans chapters 6-8..the noun "sin"..the entity is used 48 times.. where as the verb "sinning"..is only 3 times..

I hope that makes some kind of sense here on the differences...

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

Really? so what Jesus did was bad what the apostles did was bad? If you are going to blanket statement religion then you have to include them in it. Jesus religion is pure cause there is pure religion. Any religion that follows Jesus and does what He did without adding or taking away is the same.

TO say its all bad is an ignorant statement.

Jesus was religious...wasn't he? Did he go to synagogue? Did he pray and fast? Did he attend all the Jewish festivals. Did he wear the garment of a Rabbi. Near as I can tell he was a pretty religious guy....at least based on the modern definition of religion.

And then He died on a cross and rose again from the dead.

And then the church was born.
"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the
earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit."

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever
believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

[28] Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
