True God never forces
I have no right to judge anyone like paul said in Roms 14 it is between you and God. I just know the blessings Sabbath keeping brings to me and others so i'm trying to share this with others.
yes anyone who is for him is not againest him, and all called brothers in Him,

God allways delivered his message to the prophets, before He does anything,

and all who call on Christ will be saved, we just do not know where we each will be in his kingdom.

that is not for me to judge, or my place, but hopping to be the first fruits of mankind,

with him leading us and teaching with him how He should us from the begining and all be friends.

In that wonderful world to come,

and looking for a few good jems along the way still now.

Justification by faith alone, True, i agree the more we cling to Christ the more we desire to obey, all good things come from God and even my desire to do right. this is what James is saying " that faith without works is dead ", We can't come close to God with having fruit that shows it. Keeping the Sabbath is not an issue for me, i want to experience the blessing it brings each week, and it isn't just about going to church in the morning, it is all the little things, like opening and closing the Sabbath at sundown, like focusing on nature and the creator, things like preparation day and believing that that day is a special day in the week to devote to the Lord. If i could ask you to do one thing .. just research the way Sunday took the place of Saturday.

If I had to do ''research'', in order to know in my heart how God wanted me to live, I could not have the Christianity I now have.
But thank you for the chat, and your polite, non judgemental attitude to those who take a different attitude/view to your own, that is refreshing and always nice to see.
God Bless

You reckon ?
"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled"
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill it."

Are the 'Ten Commandments' no longer valid either. ?
Or do we just pick which OT stuff we like - and discard the bits we don't ?

Yes Pumicestone, the Ten Commandments are no longer valid. They have been superseded by the law of Christ / the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. It's not a matter of picking the bits we like and discarding the bits we don't. The new covenant has parallels in nine of the Ten Commandments; there is no commandment in the NT that we keep the Sabbath. It was fulfilled in Jesus (Hebrews 4), who is our rest. The Sabbath rest is no longer a day; it is found in Jesus.

No one can keep the sabbath like we should, therefore no one is saved by keeping the law.
Rom 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Rom 3:29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
Rom 3:30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
Rom 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
But notice that we are not free to kill and steal or break the Sabbath because Jesus has saved us in His perfect righteousness. We should keep it because we are saved, not to be saved.
I like that verse you bolded TMS. We as Christians establish the law.... in other words we bring about the reality of what the shadows were pointing at.

Satan, a good counterfit, and a lier that decieves by looking like the good guy.

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Satan was still here on Earth as the god of this world
(2 Corinthians 4:4).

He is also the “prince of the power of the air” today (Ephesians 2:2), holding sway over the whole of mankind.

“As he spake these words, many believed on him. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him,
If ye continue in my word [His message], then are ye my disciples indeed .…

- the rest of instructions where in parables or blinded from seeing on purpose,
no crowd was ever not told in a parables.

even the crowd witness, on His death, God forsaken , but it was His Fathers will,

and why we are even here. he could make a rock worship him

ut ye seek to kill me, because my word [His gospel message] hath no place in you. …
But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God .…
[F]or I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. …
And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. … And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?”

But Satan connived to set up a powerful Gentile religious leader with a counterfeit religion—the ancient Babylonian mystery religion. He hatched a counterfeit “gospel.” He even appropriated the name of Christ, calling that religion “Christianity.”

In Samaria, north of Jerusalem, lived a Gentile people whom the Jews of Christ’s day spurned,
calling them “dogs.”

They had been moved there from areas of the Babylonian Empire about 700 b.c.

by various kings, including Shalmaneser of Assyria (2 Kings 17:18, 21-24, etc.). T

hey had brought with them into the land of Samaria their own Babylonian mystery religion.
In the eighth chapter of Acts you’ll read of their religious leader in the time of Christ, Simon Magus the Sorcerer.

The True and the False Church

In the book of Revelation are pictured two churches, each of which go under the name of Christ. One, pictured in the 12th chapter, portrays the true Church of God, small in number, reduced through persecution and martyrdom, but obedient to God’s law, and hated by Satan. The other, in the 17th chapter, called “Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth” (verse 5). In other words, the Babylonian mystery religion steeped in “iniquity”—abolishing God’s law.

During the time of Paul’s ministry, these same Simon Magus ministers were troubling the Corinthians. Paul wrote to the Corinthians: “I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ [the true Church, in the resurrection, is to be married to Christ, spiritually].

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he [a minister of Simon Magus] that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit [of rebellion and disobedience], which ye have not received, or another gospel …” (2 Corinthians 11:2-4).

But notice, they were proclaiming another Jesus—as well as another gospel—and they followed another spirit—of rebellion and not obedience. That deception has continued through the centuries and is the state today. They took the name of Christ. They called their Babylonian religion “Christianity.” But they not only presented a counterfeit gospel but a counterfeit spirit of self-centeredness and a counterfeit Jesus, completely different to the Jesus of the Bible.

Of these false ministers, Paul wrote further to the Corinthians: “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness …” (verses 13-15).

Peter wrote of these deceivers: “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies .… And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you …” (2 Peter 2:1-3).

John wrote of these same perverters of the true gospel, denying obedience to the way of God. “He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (1 John 2:4). “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us

Jude warned us that we should “earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men,

turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness [license to disobey] .… Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh,
despise dominion [government], and speak evil of dignities. … Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain,
and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

Almighty God has decreed that “this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached

in all the world for a witness unto all nations …” (verse 14)

His kingdom to come, he gave to be his Sons together, with His will be done finally like Heaven is now.

after applying his blood for His passover, and robing them of there goods,

where told to flee away from evil pictured in ULB, one of [His Higgest regarded Sabbaths.]

But alas the evil went after them, just like us today as then.

5And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants
was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this,
that we have let Israel go from serving us?

6And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him:

7And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt,
and captains over every one of them.

8And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel:
and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.

9But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh,
and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea,
beside Pi–hahiroth, before Baal–zephon.

10And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold,

the Egyptians marched after them;

and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the Lord.

Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28 NLT)
What did He mean? The burden of the law was upon the people, indeed, it was a heavy burden for them. The Pharisees gave more than two thousand interpretations to the law of Moses, and said: "The law of Moses does not mean that you have only to keep ten commandments; it means that you have to keep two thousand." There was not a point in all their human life where this law was not applied and made their lives difficult. And all this was gathered up into the Sabbath: "You must not make your bed on the Sabbath! You must not carry your bed on the Sabbath! You must not poke your fire on the Sabbath! You must do nothing on the Sabbath – you may not even walk more than three miles." Two thousand regulations for their lives! The one thing that they were meeting every day, and especially on the Sabbath, was "You may not."
"Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). What has happened? Jesus has appropriated the Sabbath to Himself. It is no longer a day of the week – it is a divine Person. (If the Seventh Day Adventists saw that, the whole of their system would go in five minutes!) No, Jesus is God's Sabbath. He is the end of God's works, and in Him God has entered into His rest. This is the "rest which remaineth for the children of God" – not a day of the week or on the calendar, but a divine Person, the Son of God. In Him we come to rest, and that which was our bondage is now our servant. In Him, that against which we were always struggling is now our victory. Oh yes, Jesus is the Sabbath, and if we live in Him we shall not spoil the Sabbath. Every day should be a day of rest to our souls. Oh, this is a mighty thing that the Lord Jesus has done! T. Do we need to keep the sabbath? I dunno if I posted about this but I am still confused.

Matthew 5:19 says that if you ignore the least of these commands you get the least position in heaven. So can someone please explain this to me?

btw, what is the purpose of the Sabbath and why is it so hard to keep?
The first sabbath was introduced to Israel on the 15th day of the second month "layar" confirmed by manna from heaven. (Exodus 16:1 & 5) It appears that manna began to fall on the next day. (Exodus 15:7) It would then be reasonable that the first sabbath was the 22nd of the 2nd month. (Exodus 15:22 & 27) The 20th of March was the first day of the Hebrew new year, not the Jewish civil calendar. Therefore the true sabbath would be the 10th of May which is a Sunday according to the Gregorian calendar. This doesn't make Sunday the true sabbath however because the Gregorian calendar was instigated but Pope Gregory, not God. Hard tellen' when the true sabbath really is. At ant rate, the Jewish persuasion celebrates the sabbath on Saturday as do the SDA. I have determined that God's rest made for man (Him being the Lord over it made for man) is a way of life. Also there is a sabbath year to let the land rest. The first tilling of the ground is when the cycle begins. My neighbor may till his ground 2 years before I do. That makes his sabbath year 2 years before my sabbath year. It is not "to each his own" but it becomes a way of life in Christ according to God's ordinances.

The purpose of the sabbath is to remember, and commune with others, the events that happened to you during the previous 6 days and how God was involved in every day. This is called "convocation" in the Bible. (Leviticus 23:1-3)

1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
[SUP]2 [/SUP]Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.

This is also God's way for us to edify each other according to His desire. By this one simple institution, we can grow Spiritually as a Christian community being of the same mind and heart toward God. God's children then learn by watching and seeing the reality in experiencing Christ Jesus first hand, receiving the blessings of God simply by sharing the truth in Him.

Hebrews 4:1-5
1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. [SUP]2 [/SUP]For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

Colossians 2:8-10
[SUP]8 [/SUP]Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

Tradition of men? Rudiments of the world?

Colossians 2:14-17

[SUP]14 [/SUP]Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
[SUP]15 [/SUP]And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
[SUP]17 [/SUP]Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

The sabbath day is a shadow of things to come? How so?

Hebrews 4:9-11

[SUP]9 [/SUP]There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Is it just me that can't grasp here?. I'm not sure what to make of all this?, so confusing. The original poster asked a simple question 'do we need to keep the sabbath' ?, i had a look through this discussion and i am confused as what to believe here, was the question really answered?. Research elsewhere on this sabbath subject brings up different interpretations from different christians. Confusing and i personally think those that lead in their organizations should make things clear for all to understand exactly what the Bible teaches. Who to believe really?.

The church was purchased and has been around since the beginning of time.

Rev_13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
The church was purchased and has been around since the beginning of time.
Really

And I say also unto thee, that......thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church;........and the gates of hell shall not repvail against it. Matt.16 18

Hmmmm, the Ten Commandments are "no longer valid" ?
I suspect you might find a few Christians who would disagree with you.

And they have been "superseded" ?
I wonder what He meant by
" ..... Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law ......."
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law ................."

truly sincere in that desire.
My point was that there appears to be conflicting opinions amongst Christians about the sabbath observance for todays world in which Christians live out their lives. The conflicts are not just here at this forum but elsewhere too. It is confusing. I get what some are saying the point is who is right?.

Ok so here is the Sabbath commandment in full as given to Moses by God who spoke and wrote it.

Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

So according to the commandment itself,

what day is the Sabbath, any day or a specific day?

when was the Sabbath instituted and why?

Keep it honest use the text to answer the question.
