How do we become saved, how do we know were are saved?
1. Hear the gospel - Rom 1:16

Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek

2. Believe it

John 3:16

3 Repent of your sins - Acts 2:38

Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord

4. Confess:
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved

5. Be baptized in water: Gal 3:27, Acts 22:16
Acts 2:
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost

Acts 22: 16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord

6. Live faithful:
Rev 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life

Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him

How do we know when were saved? By examining ourselves. Looking into the "perfect law of liberty" as our mirror. To see your reflection. Let the word guide you in knowing what you are to do.

James 1:23-25 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed

There all mentioned in the NT. There all equally important. The one that is essential in doing them all, is belief. because without that you will not do the rest.

I did not write those passages, God did. Each one is linked to salvation, why would anyone think they must do one without the other?

As for missing one? Why would you? Doing so would be willful sin would it not? It would show unrepentant and willingness to disobey God.

Heb 5:9 and 10:26 answers that for you.

Of course if you're heading over to the "what if there is no water" questions, then I would not say either way. I trust God;s judgement is fair, and questions like that dont change the fact I can read, and I have the ability to do each. So I will stick with that and not "what if' questions to know how to be saved. Not saying that's where you were headed, just in case you were.

Hmmm, step 5, baptism.

Nest:

How to we wash away sin?

The blood of Christ - Col 1:14: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins

or baptism?

Acts 22:16 - arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins calling upon the name of the lord.

Two things here mentioned as washing away sin.

If both do the same thing, then both may be equal to one another:

And look, that is exacly what the Bible says concerning the water, the spirt and the blood of Chirst:

I Jn 5:8 the Spirit, the water and the blood, and these three agree in one.

So it makes sense when Peter says:
1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Paraphrase: the like figure to the 8 souls being saved by water on the ark, is that baptism does now save us, not washing the dirt off your skin, but the washing of the inner man, an answer to God, that gives us a good consequence knowing we have been made clean.

The rejection of baptism is a forced conclusion in order to attempt to be consistent within the "faith only" doctrine. It's commanded several times, easy to understand.

Right! Believing is the main one, You can hear the Good news, and not rest on his finished work, you can confess your sins a not believe he died for them, you can be baptized and confess his name publicly but do it as works, remember Matt 15:8 These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Believing is the key Acts 13:39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Acts 10:43-47 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,"Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?". They believed the Gopel!, there was no order they recieved the holy spirit then they were baptized. And repenting(Greek meatnoia, changing one's mind) of your sin, is done by believing you are already forgiven believing he died on the cross for you and me Romans 6:14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. If you believe that you are forgiven then you will walk in the newness of Life because were no longer prisoners of sins but our flesh has been buried with christ, The most imprtant steps is to believe.

Cornelious is a uniqe case in scripture. This was 1 of 2 times we see the baptism of the Holy Spirit explicity mentioned.

THis was for the purpose of showing Peter that the Gentiles were chosen by God as worthy of Salavtion.

So is that where I should look to find out what I need to do to be saved? Should I look at a uniqe case of the baptism of the HS, for the purpse of showing the Jews, Gentles would be saved to?

Or should I look at what people who were not saved, were told to do to be saved?

1. The Jews in Acts 2: they heard, they believed, and what happened.

37: what shall we do? (to be saved no doubt).

38: and peter said nothing just keep believing, and when you get a chance rrepent and be baptized.

NO, of course not, he answered "repent and be baptized FOR the remission (forgiveness)_ of your sins.

Beliefdid not give them forgiveness of sin. They believed when they asked what shall we do? Yet they were told to do something FOR (greek "eis") the forgiveness. This was done AFTER they believed.

I know the argument that the Greek word "eis" means "because of". That is a warn out hoax, that has been proven wrong a long time ago.

EIS is found over 1000 times in the NT. Never ONCE translated "because of". There is no greek lexicon (creditable) that defines eis as because of.

So it stands, what shall we do, repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins.

WHY BAPTISM? repentance and baptism for forgiveness? because the spirit the water and the blood all agree in one - I Jn 5:8

I have given you alot of passages above, and there are plenty more. Acts 22:16, and I Pet 3:21 are really disagreeing with what your saying.

Im not going to debate this forever on here. I will try and show you a little more. I just encourage you to read with an open mind. Remember were all humans, I could be wrong, so can you.

If you show me a passage and I am wrong, I will study it, before just writing it off. Please do the same.

Don't let "your pastor" fool you either like I used to. I used to think he knew it all, and could never be wrong. Until I read for myself.

Thanks for being civil about it though, I do appreciate that. Many on here, go into attack mode when baptism is mentioned as a part of salvation.

Here is another mans view of Cornelius, a little better at wording than me.

If Cornelius was saved before he was baptized, he was saved before he had faith.

Peter began preaching the message of salvation in verse 34 ending in verse 43.

The text tells us that while he spoke those words the Holy Spirit fell upon them.

The text of Acts 10 does not tell at what point the Holy Spirit fell upon them but only "while Peter was still speaking these words."

However, in Acts 11 where "Peter explained...in order from the beginning" what had happened in Acts 10, we read how he was told by Cornelius that an angel had instructed him to send for Peter "who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved" (Acts 11:14).
Let us pause to digest this. Cornelius was to hear "words by which you and all your household will be saved."

Then Peter said, "And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning" (verse 15).

So the Holy Spirit fell upon them "as I began to speak" says Peter. So Cornelius had not heard the words of salvation at the point when the Holy Spirit fell upon him and his household.

Someone may ask, "Why was the gift of the Holy Spirit poured out on the Gentiles before conversion?"

Answer: To persuade the Jews that the Gentiles should receive the same salvation as the Jews received.

Those Jews who did not believe that Gentiles could receive the gospel had to be convinced by miracle that Gentiles could be saved through Jesus Christ the same as the Jews who obeyed the gospel. Please read Acts 10:44-48; 11:2, 3, 15-18.

Peter commanded these Gentiles "to be baptized in the name of the Lord." And we must bear in mind that baptism "in the name of the Lord" is "for the remission of sins" (Acts 2:38).

Objections to baptism being essential to salvation REFUTED <-----Click link all other arguments refuted as well here.

How do we become saved, how do we know were are saved?
Jesus tells us how

Hear and Obey: “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life” (John 5:24); “Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice” (John 18:37). “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man” (Matthew 7:24).
Believe: “I said therefore to you, that you shall die in your sins; for unless you believe that I AM, you shall die in your sins” (John 8:24).
Repent: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17); “I tell you, no, but, unless you repent, you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3, 5).
Confess: “Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever shall deny Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32, 33).
Be Baptized: “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5); “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all that I commanded you” (Matthew 28:19, 20); “He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved” (Mark 16:16).
Remain Faithful: “Be Faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Revelation 2:10). “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:24).

Yeah your right baptizim is very important, and, I was just trying to prove the point that we can do all those things and not believe in our hearts, therefore doing it out of works. I am saying this with experience brother I have been self righteous and not resting on his finish work, it was only when i started to believe is when I started to rest.

By what Jesus has done for us , one should see we are already saved. :)
The real question that needs answering, is ? will we recieve this gift, as called to by faith and word?

God bless
