Self control is the part the Christian behavior. Yes we are human, but we don't have the COMPLETE luxury to flesh out. We have a doctrine to reel us back in when all is busted at the seams. Question? Can we justify impulsive lashing outs or do we humbly observe something we cant control and digress with positive intentions? Then again we are in our spiritual growth where God has us. Some might be further along then others needless to say God doesn't entertain a food chain system in the body of Christ only divine structure, that is God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, and His people(us).

It's a lining up with the character of Christ. Then some will say " well I'm not there yet" disregarding the infallible progress of sanctification. The target is to be Holy and that has no undertones of being religious, but Christlike. We are and shall be Christlike. God makes it his place to cultivate us as sons. Keep in mind it's our responsibility to do our part and that is to get as much knowledge from the Holy Spirit as possible with relentless efforts and ascertain a drive that makes the devil shake. The Bible gives us guidance, lets' adhere to it.

Holy means to be separate. To be separate from the world's way of thinking, behaving and looking. Yes, that is a choice, but to make the choice work, we must be completely focused on Christ. Intimate prayer, praise and worship.

Then it becomes less of self control, and more that we change. We begin to flow with the Holy Spirit, and discover his feelings and thoughts becoming ours.

I don't get too hung up on 'impulsive lashing outs'.
They are a thermometer of my inner faith and prove I'm not the 'spiritual giant' I am prone to thinking I am.
I will confess the outrage/sin/misstep and being humbled will press on to the calling He is drawing me in to.

Some peoples thermometer could well be their Temperature. We at times REACT to a circumstance and forget God is sovereign and has complete control over our lives. We all do it. But the defining line is the New Man is provided the standard in which we live by, and that is the example of Christ. Other then that some people create grey areas just to have the freedom to FLESH out pardoning themselves from Christian conduct as in the comment you just made. There is an understanding to my digression not a set up for contention as posters are prone to do.
