It is ok to celebrate earthly holidays such as birthdays or the forth of July, as long as it does not go against God. Like Mardi Gras definitely goes against God. People celebrate by getting drunk and wearing a different necklace symbolizing each person they had sex with that night.
Although like you said, it is not a command. But any day is a good day to celebrate Christ. And any time is a good time to talk to people about anything in scripture- the birth of Christ is in scripture. I think it is a great welcome mat to start up a conversation about Christ.
To a christian every day is Christmas and every Sunday is Easter, so to me the only thing wrong with it is that it's once a year instead of every day.

They are known world wide, I wonder what would have happened to the
spreading of the gospel message without these reminders (phew it's far
too warm to be talking about Christmas).
Besides why should the devil be allowed his many celebrations,
Halloween, summer solstice, mischievous night etc - but not God.
Besides God was big on celebrations and times of remembrance.
If it's good enough for God, it's good enough for me.

I believe that it is proper to commemorate the Lord's birth; but, I believe that the proper time to commemorate it is the first day of Sukkot (Tabernacles). I believe that is the reason that observance of Sukkot will be mandatory during the Millennium. (Zec 14:16-18)
I believe that we should commemorate Jesus' resurrection on the Sunday after passover. I believe that we should call the day either Firstfruits, or Resurrection Sunday. I believe that we should separate ourselves from all association with bunnies, eggs, and fertility rites; and from Pagan association with Oestern (Astarte, Ishtar).

Christmas and Easter were originaly Pagan Festivals. During the first centuries the church was busy converting Pagans to Christianity. In order to attract them to the faith their festivals were Christianised. Some of the Saints days and pilgrimage sites got the same treatment. Unless you intend to worshiip the Goddess Astarte or the God Saturn on these holidays dont worry about it. The days of the week are named after Pagan Gods and Goddesses ie Monday, Moon, Tuesday, Tiu,Wednesday Woden, Thursday, Thor, Friday,Frigg,Saturday, Saturn and Sunday,Sol A number of our Months are named after Roman Emporers. Its just something we have to live with.

Christians think of Christ a lot. I think this is especially true on Christmas and Easter. It can be just as true with the feast days. But then people can get caught up in the celebration instead of who they are celebrating both with Christmas and Easter and the feast days.
