I've fallen far behind in the posts. So here is my catch up post, regarding pharmaceuticals, and the American for-profit medical system.
I was on a drug called a biologic for RA for 3 years. It was called Rituxan. It cost my insurance plan $1500 each for two six-hour infusions, two weeks apart. So $3000, with me co-paying $50, but now it would be nothing, with a different plan.
I had an American friend on the same drug at the same time. The drug is made in the USA. It cost her $75,000 for the same two six-hour infusions two weeks apart.
I would have to say that is the most incredible price difference I have ever heard of! Someone is getting gouged, and it was not me, or my Canadian health care plan.
(Not wanting to debate American vs Canadian health care plans, just the cost of the drugs!)
