I lived on my folks dairy farm until I was 28, but dad quit the dairy business when I was 15. I liked the animals and the work was kind of fun then. I sort of wish I was still doing it, but we were tied to the cows seven days a week all year. They need milking twice a day every day, so we had to get our farm neighbors to do the milking for us to get a vacation. I don't remember dad helping the neighbors very often, but they had grown children by the time I can remember anything. Sorry for rambling. Hope God sees fit to cure your medical problem. Thank you, I don't work a whole lot these days. I thank God for my employees, they are here no matter
what. I raise beef cattle, some grain, and cotton. You are right, farming is a 24/7 thing, no vacation to
speak of. The life we live is somewhat simple, God first, family second, the farm third, and friends fourth.
We, as neighbors, help one another. To give 2400 + or - cows their shots, tag them, get them rounded
up to sell, it takes a lot of effort. You are never to old to get back into farming. You just can't go as big
as you would like. I've been doing it all my life, if I had started 10-20 years ago, I wouldn't have but 100
head of cattle, and maybe, 500 ac of grain. Again, thank you.
To clarified; we run 1200 heffers, they give us around 1200 calves a year, that's what we sell.

skylove, thank you for the like. I noticed that you like to make people smile. I would like to return the favor. Picture, if you will, my father walking behind a cow that is lifting it's tail in the spring time and about to cough. Spring time equals loose manure from the cows and the cough makes for projectile ejection. He knew better, but wasn't paying attention. Just as in our Christian lives we need to pay attention to how we live or we get a reminder. Hope your reminders aren't as smelly.
As long as we have Christ with us we can keep smiling. However, being as this is a speak your mind thread I find it odd that we are told that it is better to be sad in mourning for the dead than it is to be happy celebrating a marriage. I don't remember where I read that, but it confuses me a little. While I am happy knowing Christ, I have to be unhappy mourning for the dead. Unless they were not saved I don't know why I should mourn their passing, but then again we are not to judge and maybe we are to mourn as if they were not saved. I have strange thoughts sometimes.

I sit out there every morning and watch day break, having my coffee,
when it gets daylight, I read my Bible, then my morning prayer.
I also love the sunsets in the fall. The leaves look so much different
than in the morning. I guess it's because of the dew in the morning.
Gods creation comes to life at daybreak, they are a lot of people who
never gets to see it.
achildofgod, our farm had 10 to 17 head of milking cows and never got any bigger because we were limited to 180 acres of land with only 60 being tillable. I don't know that I could enjoy being on what looks to be about about 4000 head total farm. I would probably get so confused I'd go nuts. Have a blessed day.
It's not as bad as one would think. The cows, for the most part take care of themselves.
We have to put out hay and grain, until time for the shots and tagging the new ones is
not bad.
We own a little over 6,200 acres, we have another 1,800 acers leased. The pond is about
14 acres, with 5 creeks on the property. So, as you can see, not to bad.

My mother's only sister lived on a farm. I have no idea how big or small it was, or even what they really did. For quite some time, my family used to take about an hour's drive (which to a kid feels like forever in the car) every Sunday afternoon after church, out to their place, where we would visit for the rest of the day, and stay for dinner. I had four cousins plus my aunt and uncle there, and they welcomed a family of thirteen (eleven children plus my parents). A sit down meal once a week of up to nineteen people! I have some such fond memories of my family. Of course it probably wasn't all the kids every week. By the time my youngest sister was born, my oldest sister was in university.
Once at my mother's hometown neighbor's, I was in the cow yard just outside the barn when the barn door was opened from the inside to let the cows out. I knew cows were not really aggressive but I was still scared of being trampled, and had the wherewithal to stand behind the barn door as they exited. I imagine myself being about six or seven at the time, though I cannot be sure.

With the big fields by them...and I always thought....Wow! Id get a blanket and just for one whole day...just lie there and gaze at the mountain sky lol
