I have a question concerning spirit baptism. There are different theories and one sais that when you accept Jesus as your savior god gives you his spirit so that you receive god's power in your life. This would be often connected with tongue speech as a sign for the spirit baptism.
But I thought that every Christian gets the holy spirit when he sais yes to Jesus and not everyone can speak in tongues. Then an extra spirit baptism isn't necessary. I don't know what's right because different churches say different things. Can you help me?

Spirit baptism is when you accept christ, the second you recieve the holy spirit you are baptized by him in spirit. Now speaking in toungues is a gift of the holy spirit. people have different gifts such as dream interpretation, prophesy talking in toungues and such. not everyone can prophesy, not everyone can speak in toungues not because they are not good enough but because god has a different plan for them

I agree with abiding, but if you have doubt... ask God to fill you right now and go forward in Faith that HE did.

You do get the HS when you are saved. The reason they introduced "Baptism in the Spirit" back in the early days was because many churches at the time did not teach about everything the Holy Spirit wanted to do. They found it a good idea to ask for the Holy Spirit to become more active in people who had been saved for sometime. In the early days, some churches hoped everyone would have tongues so it would prove the HS was doing something special. Not everyone gets tongues, and many people have been hurt by the bad teaching that everyone is supposed to.

Baptism - there are different kinds

you get full immersion water baptism-- that has no bearing on receiving eternal life.. a symbol of what Jesus has already deon for you by being immersed under water.. picturing His death, burial and resurrection.

you also get what happened in Acts.. where the Holy Spirit would empower a local church. Again.. nothing to do with receiving eternal life.

The empowerment the Holy Spirit did in Acts was recorded as most of the time accompanied by manifestations of the Spirit.. but these were churches .. not just individuals alone.

Whenever you see 'they' or 'us' in scripture.. it happens to a group of people. Not about individual eternal salvation.

Also most of the time even 'you' in scripture.. is actually a whole group.. a local church.

Examples-

(Act 2:2)
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
(Act 2:4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

(Act 8:14)
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
(Act 8:15) Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
(Act 8:16) (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
(Act 8:17) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
There are alot more verses also like this

Where you see the Holy Spirit empowering a whole group rather than an individual alone.B

So-- there is receiving the Holy Spirit for eternal salvation that is for the indivudal.. but a whole gorup receiving the Holy Spirit is n't the same thing

Mark 16:17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;

[h=3]Acts 19 1-11[/h]New International Version (NIV)

[h=3]Paul in Ephesus[/h]19 While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples [SUP]2 [/SUP]and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when[SUP][a][/SUP] you believed?”
They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
[SUP]3 [/SUP]So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?”
“John’s baptism,” they replied.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” [SUP]5 [/SUP]On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. [SUP]6 [/SUP]When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues[SUP][b][/SUP] and prophesied. [SUP]7 [/SUP]There were about twelve men in all.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God. [SUP]9 [/SUP]But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus. [SUP]10 [/SUP]This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, [SUP]12 [/SUP]so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them.

Receiving the Holy Spirit comes with the evidence of speaking in tongues and profecying dont let no one ever deceive you in acts at pentecost the baptism came with tongues and profecying again several.times in that same book in chapter 19 they pressed the issue each a nnd every time tje spirit baptism is the outward comfirmed evidence that you are Gods children it is vital for your spiritual life ,if you dont have it pray to receive it if your church shows no evidence of that a believer should have flee from it find a strong church thats bible based like one you cannot do eithout his holy spirit baptism to deny the Holy spirit is to deny jesus for He came to testify of the spirit for john had said I indeed baptize you with water but he that comes after me baptizes with the Holy Ghost most important is to live Holy believe in every word that comed from Gods mouth obey be faithfull in all thingd and you shall see the salvation of God dont ever let no one steer you wrong much blessings in Jesus name

I've wondered about this myself and here is what I've come up with. If there is no need it is pointless for God to provide it. The first time the apostles spoke in tongues was Acts 2. Right after that they went out onto the street and people were amazed that these Galileans were speaking to everyone in his own language. That was a strong evidence that something very profound just took place in them. Now if everyone around you are all speaking the same language then what evidence is it that you may or may not be speaking some distant dialect of Hindi. In 1 Corinthians 14: 22, Paul claims speaking in strange languages is a sign for unbelievers. So, again, if nobody around you will benefit or validate that you are if fact not just making noise then it is probably not going to happen. When I was pretty young in the faith some Christians tried to tell me I couldn't be saved if I didn't speak in tongues, so I let them pray over me for this "spiritual baptism". Well they tried but...still only English. Then they asked if I was sure there wasn't some other sounds in my head. Then I made a couple of noises and...Alleluia I was saved (sarcasm). Then everyone there started making some strange and interesting unidentifiable noises. I've heard of people at their church who were deeply vexed because they never received this gift and to them it meant they weren't saved, even though scripture clearly states not all speak in tongues. 1 Corinthians 12: 27-30

I think tongues are not necessary. My wife found them very valuable in her prayer life. I prayed in tongues as she died and I gave her to Jesus. They are not necessary, but sometimes God gives them just to be nice. Sometimes He keeps them from you just to be nice. He knows what is nice, we do not. Hungry, I can say for certain that what those people told you was not being nice. I think we just have to let God be God and not go to extremes in what we think we know about His plans. For us to think we know more than God is not nice either.

Here you go it is scriptual that youreceive the Holy Ghost the first day one believes period it is on you whether you believe this or not.
[h=3]Ephesians 1[/h]New King James Version (NKJV)

[h=3]Greeting[/h]1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God,
To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus: (and I hear you do believe)
[SUP]2 [/SUP]Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
[h=3]Redemption in Christ[/h][SUP]3 [/SUP]Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, [SUP]4 [/SUP]just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, [SUP]5 [/SUP]having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, [SUP]6 [/SUP]to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. (you believe you are accepted)
[SUP]7 [/SUP]In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace [SUP]8 [/SUP]which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, [SUP]9 [/SUP]having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, [SUP]10 [/SUP]that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him. [SUP]11 [/SUP]In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, [SUP]12 [/SUP]that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, [SUP]14 [/SUP]who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
You are sealed, covered and smothered in him, sift all you hear through your heart where this inner man lives and is now your teacher to truth all truth, so in allyou hear and see sift it through your heart and be transformed from inside out
Welcome to Heaven

I have a question concerning spirit baptism. There are different theories and one sais that when you accept Jesus as your savior god gives you his spirit so that you receive god's power in your life.
John 1:[SUP]12 [/SUP]But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: [SUP]13 [/SUP]Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

That part is true, but not the next part.

This would be often connected with tongue speech as a sign for the spirit baptism.
Tongues serves as a sign to unbelievers. Tongues are not to serve as a sign to believers which is why not every believer in having received the Holy Spirit at their salvation will speak in tongues.

1 Corinthians 14:[SUP]20 [/SUP]Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men. [SUP]21 [/SUP]In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. [SUP]22 [/SUP]Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

But I thought that every Christian gets the holy spirit when he sais yes to Jesus
That is true:

Ephesians 1:[SUP]12 [/SUP]That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. [SUP]13 [/SUP]In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, [SUP]14 [/SUP]Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. [SUP]15 [/SUP]Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,

Hebrews 11:1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. [SUP]2 [/SUP]For by it the elders obtained a good report........[SUP]6 [/SUP]But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Galatians 3:[SUP]14 [/SUP]That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.....[SUP]26 [/SUP]For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. [SUP]27 [/SUP]For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. [SUP]28 [/SUP]There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. [SUP]29 [/SUP]And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

and not everyone can speak in tongues.
That is true also.

1 Corinthians 12:[SUP]27 [/SUP]Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. [SUP]28 [/SUP]And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. [SUP]29 [/SUP]Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? [SUP]30 [/SUP]Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? [SUP]31 [/SUP]But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Paul was basically saying by that question that obviously, not every believer will speak in tongues.

Then an extra spirit baptism isn't necessary.
Right. Because there is only one baptism with the Holy Spirit which testifies only one hope of our calling.

Ephesians 4:[SUP]4 [/SUP]There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; [SUP]5 [/SUP]One Lord, one faith, one baptism, [SUP]6 [/SUP]One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

That one baptism with the Spirit is the same thing as saying one drink of that One Spirit that all believers had at their salvation.

1 Corinthians 12:[SUP]13 [/SUP]For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

I don't know what's right because different churches say different things. Can you help me?
May the Lord Jesus Christ help you to dicern even more by knowing that when they do preach to receive another Jesus or another Holy Spirit when they had already received Him, that supernatuarl phenomeon and that teaching is not of Him.

2 Corinthians 11:1Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. [SUP]2 [/SUP]For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. [SUP]3 [/SUP]But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. [SUP]4 [/SUP]For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

We had all received the promise of the Spirit by preaching Jesus Christ & Him crucified, and yet now some errant believers are preaching the Holy Spirit & putting the spotlight on the Holy Spirit as if one can receive Him again after a sign of tongues. This is a departure from the faith in Jesus Christ of which God will permit a strong delusion to occur for believing that lie because those that seek after familiar spirits to receive by a sign of tongues that is just babbling nonsense can also be found in wizardry.

Isaiah 8:[SUP]19 [/SUP]And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

1 Timothy 4:1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; [SUP]2 [/SUP]Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Many errant believers will testify that He dwells within them but yet still preach as if one can receive Him again & again & again after a sign, misleading many believers into becoming an adulterous generation that seeks after a sign.

Paul addresses this error and reproved it by reminding them how they had received the promise of the Spirit at their salvation.

2 Thessalonians 2: [SUP]9 [/SUP]Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, [SUP]10 [/SUP]And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. [SUP]11 [/SUP]And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: [SUP]12 [/SUP]That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. [SUP]13 [/SUP]But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:[SUP]14 [/SUP]Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. [SUP]15 [/SUP]Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

The damnation is not referring to the loss of salvation, but the loss of the birthright of attending the Marriage Supper when the Bridegroom comes for the ready bride of Christ as conveyed earlier in that warning anther letter in 2 Corinthians 11:1-4.

If one reads on to 2 Thessalonians 3rd chapter, Paul testify of those that are going astray and not after the tradition taught of us but are disorderly, that we are to admonish these wicked and unreasonable men by withdrawing from them, but not to treat them as the enemy, but to admonish them as a brother.

2 Thessalonians 3:1Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: [SUP]2 [/SUP]And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. [SUP]3 [/SUP]But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. [SUP]4 [/SUP]And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. [SUP]5 [/SUP]And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. [SUP]6 [/SUP]Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. [SUP]7 [/SUP]For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;..........[SUP]14 [/SUP]And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. [SUP]15 [/SUP]Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

This is indicative that God will see them that way too even if they do not repent.

But as we are to withdraw, and as a church, they are to excommunicate unless they repent ( see 1 Corinthians 5th chapter) , so will God do to the "foolish virgins" at the pre tribulational rapture when God judges His House. Going out to the market to be filled when the prudent ones are filled, is indicative of those keeping the faith as opposed to those departing from that faith in Jesus Christ that they are filled, sealed, and thus saved when they had first came to & believed in Jesus Christ so that from that point on, we are being witnesses of the Son and that one calling by Whom we are reconciled to God the Father by... through the Bridegroom, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

That is how one is His disciple, by testifying of the Son in seeking the glory of the Son, and by Him the glory of God the Father. When believers deviate from that testimony and purpose, then they are no longer being His disciple, but being a disciple of something else in His name which is not of Him as they seek the glory of that moment or movement & not after Jesus Christ, our first love.

the basic root meaning of the Greek words for baptize and baptism is immerse/immersion, From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Based on the accepted definition that baptism is an immersion, we can then apply this to the baptism of the Spirit.
This is done by immersing ones self in those things that are Spiritual; Bible reading, prayer, meditation and fasting etc.
Jesus did leave the Holy Ghost with us, but not all are baptized in Him. Some are and don't even realize it. Many think that, unless they speak in unknown tongues there has been no baptism of the Spirit. However, the speaking in tongues is only one evidence that this baptism has taken place. There are a variety of Spiritual gifts, and the gift of tongues is the lesser of the gifts. Paul encourages us to seek the more important gifts, such as the gift of prophecy.
Indeed, the Holy Spirit is available to all who are saved, but being baptized in this Spirit is a matter of choice, for all who have been saved. The same way that baptism in water is not a requirement for salvation, neither is baptism in the Spirit. I do however, believe that both are important, for a Christian to experience the richness of their salvation.

The Key verse to understanding the Bible is 2nd Timothy 2:15. When you get saved. You get ALL of the Holy Spirit you are going to get. It is not a matter of getting more or getting less of the Spirit, it is a matter of being more or being less obedient to the spirit. When you are more obedient to the Spirit, hte Holy Spirit can use you more. If you are less obedient , then He uses you less. The tongues part was only for preaching the gospel because the same chapter that people use to say it still exists proves it doesn't. It plainly states,"How here we every man in the tongue whereirn WE WERE BORN." We don't that now because we have interpreters. There is only one time you receive the Holy Spirit, and that is when you get saved, which , by the way, is FOREVER. And, I can prove that Biblically,to.

ONELORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BABTISM
EPHESIANS4:5
One Lord,
WE have three don’t we: Jesus, The Holy Ghost and the Father. Ithought there is only one God. Yet we see three manifestations of the same God.How can this be? Let me give you a physical analogy rather analogies:
Water is one, yet there are three manifestations of water. There areice and steam as well. This is three in one.
An egg is another; look at an egg, there are three parts to the egg, ASchell (Jesus), a white (Holy Ghost) and a yoke (the Father of all) it takesall three to make the egg, and it takes all three to know the Father of all.
A Cherry Pie: You can cut it in three distinct slices and the fillingjust flows right back together, so get the filling of all three and we now knowthe Spiritual reality of God the Son, God the Holy Ghost, and God the Father.
One Faith,
What is Faith is the first question? Can I have faith in my spouse, inmy teacher, in my friend and or friends, my pastor of my church? Your answermight be yes, but is this smart to put faith in another human since you arehuman as well? You see we all have many faiths in someone or maybe something, asuperstition, a tradition and so on.
Now tell me if I told you that swallowing enables you to live for oneneeds to eat right? And if you put faith in me, you belief me, well thenbrother, sister you just allowed me to feed you poison and once you swallow ityour dead, and this was through faith in that swallowing would keep you alive.
You see brothers and sisters’ swallowing is not the mechanism thatenables you to live, IT IS WHAT YOU SWALLOW. So now look it is not faith that enables you to live it is what you havefaith in. You can have faith in anything here on earth and not one thing hereon earth will enable you to live forever.
There is only one faith and only one object of one’s faith and that isChrist Jesus unto the Holy Ghost living in you, thus you seeing the Father ofall through the other two, translated through this one faith. So please takeyour faith out of this world, for it shall be destroyed.
The big issue: one Baptism;
In the Old Testament, the priest as he went into the holies of holiescarrying the sins of others and his own sins, had to be baptized in waterbefore going on into the holy of holies, beyond the curtain and with a rope incase the priest died while in there, if he was found unclean then others couldpull him out of the holy of holies. There was also a prophet’s prediction of a forerunner before Jesus wasto show. This was Elijah, and Elijah did show, he was John the Baptist, who hadthe Spirit of Elijah, but the leaders of that day did not recognize him for allthey saw was physically, not spiritually.
Now John the Baptist started baptizing in the Jordan, waiting for theMessiah to show up so The Messiah could be announced filling the Old Testamentpractices and predictions of being baptized before entering the holy of holies. So Christ was baptized and water baptism was now over John’s job was done, heannounced the Savior has now arrived. He saw the dove descend on Jesus’sshoulder.
So now read and find were John told the people that he only baptizedwith water, but Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit and with fire. John stateshe must now decrease and Christ must increase. But to this day we the peoplehave stuck to traditions using acts to verify water baptism to get a gift aswell as receive the Holy Ghost, but we never talk about the fire, only the gift, and all gifts will pass away. Now this water baptism today is used to become amember of a certain church and then you will be saved. But the other churchdown the block says no you are not saved unless you get water baptized in theirchurch.
There is only one baptism people, one and it is from Jesus after hisascension when 10 days later the disciples received the Holy Ghost and spoke inother languages of the people that were there that day, and told them aboutChrist, his resurrection, his forgiveness, and ascension they spoke in thosepeoples languages, that the disciples did not know how to speak. It was fortheir edification. It was not for the way it is used today, except for edifyingthe body, and for it to be understood by the rest of the people there as it wasin the day of Pentecost.
The one baptism that actually is real is the baptism of the Holy ghostthe day you first believed read it Ephesians 1:1-13, you were sealed by Godwith the Holy Spirit of promise. Since you are sealed by God, the seal cannotbe broken, nor anyone else. Yet some people are good at deception and cause youto think a certain way and capsulate you into their way of thinking, and thenyou are swallowing poison, you know the rest, wrote before in a few words.
This baptism now is also with fire. The fires purpose is to burn outfleshly goodness you think you have from this world and its traps to deceiveand make you a good little puppet. Do not get me wrong here, I am not sayingbecome lawless, rather through this fiery baptism you are able to obey thelaw(s) by the Holy Ghost that has made you forever perfect in the Fatherssight. No stress, this is true rest, for now you can work hard (not hardly),with a joy that s everlasting.
Seek ye the kingdom of God first and foremost and all ones needs shallbe supplied. This is the peace beyond all understanding, that one is righteous, when even in adversity counts it all joy, knowing God has got them covered, whether going home to God or staying here a little while longer to help thebrethren come to see the truth the truth that set one free.
Sincerely Yours through Christ’s finished work at the cross, 3 dayslater the resurrection, then the ascension in order to supply us the believerswith the Holy Ghost, the one and same Holy Ghost that led Jesus through hisministry of reconciliation. Now leadingall of you who belief, now practice this daily until it is you. Practice makeshabit, habit characteristic, and characteristic trait.

I don't have time to read all of the posts, but here is my two cents worth:
When you receive Christ as your Savior, you also receive Holy Spirit as your Counselor. But that is not the same as receiving empowerment for ministry, just like the apostles and rest of the 120 in the upper room received after waiting like Jesus told them to. THAT is called the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (different from the baptism of water for the repentance of sins...think, Jordan River, John the Baptist...which we do because God tells us to.) Baptism of the Holy Spirit EMPOWERS us to do the ministry of the Gospel the same way that Jesus did...raising the dead, laying hands on the sick and seeing them healed, casting out demons, etc. These acts are SPIRITUAL acts and cannot be done without the empowerment of the Holy SPIRIT. It also brings revelation as to how the spiritual realm works so that with the Holy Spirit, we can devise strategy for spiritual warfare.

Unless you mean pray that sounds occultic.
your other references were to the Apostles.
Grace empowers all believers. One Baptism, One Lord, One Spirit.

Spirit Baptism is not what makes anyone speak in tongues. It is the act of God cleansing us of our sin and baptizing us into his body.

The thing which gives is gifts of the spirit. would be the anointing, or the coming into us of the HS. A different term and a different function.
