Because at SWBTS that's the ONLY theology they consider legitimate anymore. They once did not....but it changed about 30 some years ago to complete calvinism albeit somewhat cloaked and coded by euphemisms. There were some theological "dust ups" (disagreements) over the shift as they once were more focused on historical/traditional BT instead of Calvinism. The Paul Washer types leading the charge of subject matter.

However, I noticed a change more specifically away from anthropology and language studies towards a focus on single words and theological statements.

And today, I love the anthropology and history of the time of writing the various books and letters which caused them to be written to start with. (Which tends to rub against some of their theologies today)
Well, I was a black sheep in the closet because I no longer believed in OSAS but I kept it under wraps, although I don't remember that being a point of emphasis either.

Now I consider myself to be a kerygmatic Christian.

A gift is something that is not earned or purchased.

I don't see how the hypothetical is relevant.

Yes, accepting a gift does not make it earned.
So, if I promise to give my daughter my car when she graduates, is it not a gift? Did she not earn it?

The hypothetical is relevant because I suspect there are differences between "grace" and "a gift", and they are not interchangeable terms. The hypothetical is intended to help me, and others interested, to clarify what the Bible means by these terms and not to just accept uncritically claims made by theologians with barrows to push they always mean [insert theological definition here]. After 66 years living among humans, I know how capable we humans are of deceiving and being deceived. I have learned to question every claim and to measure them against the Greek and Hebrew biblical text.
