I have heard people say we have authority in Christ, But what authority is this? When we have fear and doubt can we not rebuke it? I was always afraid to rebuke the fear and doubt for fear of it not working, If there is power in the name Jesus then should we not be able to ask in his name for help and receive it? I am not going to lie, yesterday I tried to perform a miracle of sorts. Do you remember when Jesus feed the 5,000 people? All he did was thank the lord for the food and suddenly he had enough food to feed them all and much more. So I figured I could do the same, i had run out of coffee and thanked the Father and asked for forgiveness for my sins.

Now normally I would never be so bold as to try this but I tried anyways. The strange thing is i expected it to be filled, it was funny because every minute or so I would check the cup expecting it to be filled againLOL. It didn't work but i am still glad I tried it. So if we have authority in Christ why are not ever able to do anything? I am sure I have the faith of a mustard seed, and I trust God. But perhaps I am missing something?

I say these things only because I don't want anything to hold me back anymore, mainly fear and doubt.

"And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."

"And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken."

The switch must be flipped from above. Keep believing and wait.

The authority you have is believing whats already inside you!! You don't need to rebuke fear by addressing it; just remind fear that it has no place inside you because Jesus resides there!! Great job! And Good advice from enoch -- God will give you the unction to believe for a miracle, and you will, don't give up just 'cause you don't see it the first, or the 100th go 'round!

It works when you need it to follow God. I know some people who did it. James 4:3. Matt. 6:33.

Blain you seem fascinated with the words from God, and the miracles and all that. And what I'm going to say will go in one ear and out the other, but maybe somewhere down the road what i'm about to say will click. I hope.

Following Jesus isn't about all the flashy neato stuff like daily words/revelations, huge miracles, yelling at demons, visions, and all that.

It's about conforming to Jesus.

Please don't let all the shiny object like stuff preoccupy you from the main thing. I know it's going in one ear and out the other for now. All this shiny stuff is so fascinating, but someday you'll look for more, and I hope what I said sticks in your mind.

Stills I know that lately I have been posting stuff about end times and such, but my main focus is on God. There are times when I take a break from everything and just spend personal time with him. It's these times I treasure more than anything, this is when I actual feel the living water flow. If say my cup gets filled again I told God for it only to be filled for his glory not for my selfish needs.

Also, expecting your cup of coffee to be filled in private doesn't save someone from a trouble they are in.
It would just be a vain parlor trick. A sign for the weak and adulterous type.
It would be more in line with Jesus I think, to ask that someone be cured of cancer, and on top of that,
only because you are really heartbroken over them and want them relieved of their grief. Not to "prove" anything.
Not to say it wouldn't prove something, but the only proof miracle intended is the sign of Jonah.

Hi Blain, heres my 2 cents

I was brought up in a church whereby they rebuke just about everything.
I used to pray (rebuking) for people who had fear & doubt. I started to notice that the same people would come up for prayer every Sunday in church for the same thing.

As I grew in my relationship in Christ and reading his word more and more, I've come to the realisation that rebuking fear and doubt is not going to take away the fear and doubt, because rebuking is not a magic wand whereby you rebuke and it disappears. Fear and doubt will only disappear when the individual maintains a relationship with the Lord, reads the bible diligently and hears the word of God. When a person's life is centred on God, eventually fear and doubt will go, then peace, comfort and trust in the Lord will reside in the person.

About authority
Matthew 10:1 He (Jesus) called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness
Mark 3:14 He appointed twelve-designating them apostles-that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.
Luke 10:17-19 The seventy two returned with joy and said "Lord even the demons submit to us in your name" Jesus replied "I saw satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have give you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the powers of the enemy, nothing will harm you.

As we are the temple of God, no evil spirit can reside within us, therefore I believe that this driving out of evil spirits is for the unsaved who are possessed by the evil one. In this sense, if I was in this situation, then when led by the Holy Spirit I would rebuke the evil spirit within this person to come out. The gospels have examples whereby Jesus rebuke the evil spirits.

Paul himself commanded the evil spirit to come out of a fortune teller, Acts 16:18 In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her". At that moment the spirit left her.

About miracles, sometimes we can have total faith in God and not doubt Him at all but it does not mean that just because we ask Him to do some miracle in His name, that He will do it. If He does not do it, it is because it is not in accordance to His will although the miracle we are asking maybe something really good for someone else. So it all depends on God. We just obey when he leads us.

A miracle did happen to me and this was with food and I did not even ask for it.
I started attending a spanish church back in Australia and one evening I invited a family of 4 for dinner. At the same time, that evening itself, we were going to have a few other people come over after dinner in order to have a prayer time.
As it turned out, everyone turned up for dinner. Instead of having 4, I had 12.
I thought "Oh Lord, what do I do". Anyway, I had everyone seated and I just said that we will share whatever we have.
I had already cooked rice for 6, so the first thing I did was to start dishing out rice and to be honest I could not believe it. I filled up 14 plates of rice and there was no left over.
I had a chicken dish and vegetables and this too seemed to be enough. I just sat in awe for days.

The most important thing is to grow in the Lord and let the Holy Spirit lead in everything. When you are not sure about something, ask the Lord in prayer to show you and wait.
God bless you Blain

Our authority is the word of God. We come in the name of our King Jesus. We are His ambassadors. Our authority is to declare His ability to save the who so ever wills. We loose sins by preaching the word to the lost. We bind sins by preaching the word of God to the lost. This authority is not ours to wield as we will but as He wills. It is God's will to save those who believe on the Son of God and to condemn those who reject the Son of God.

Here's how the "taking authority" thing can work out.
Three options.

1. In the name of "taking authority" a person bangs their head against a figurative brick wall, time and time again, faced with many realities that refuse to change/budge. Said person remains in this state, beating themselves up over not having enough faith, not exercising enough power because said realities just won't budge to said "authority". People who remain in this carry a heavy load of condemnation, because they believe they simply lack faith, and authority.

2. Out of frustration from things not budging, said person gets mad at God, and views him as a liar because reality isn't budging to their heretical/error filled/completely dumb interpretation of scripture. They ultimately lose heart, and walk away from God, thinking God is a liar, not realizing it was their interpretation of scripture that was a lie.

3. After reality refuses to budge, they reevaluate their theology/teaching/doctrine and get a more biblical/truthful understanding of authority. They learn their lesson. Grow in their walk with God, and try their hardest to correct others who have bought into this condemnation filled, lie from the very pit of hell.

I pray that options 1 and 2 never apply to anyone.

Recently I was in prayer my heart and soul were very heavy for the desire that I have and had for children I teach, this became heart felt and heavy I could sense that it was the same or a touch of His heart in and upon mine and at that I could sense that when this happens it is like a conception and when the conception occurs then the birth of the desire is accomplished and the reality of the need whether it be inner or of the physical realm then it happens, whatsoever things (of His heart i.e. Agape and in yours i.e. His Agape) you desire; yearn or travail with when you are intimate with Him you shall have or it shall be birthed and created miracles of material and inner soul and spiritual.

The message to the early church was TRANSFORMATION not rebuking demons. Sure, in Acts 16, Paul had to do it. But his purpose was to be in Philippi to make disciples who were transformed by the power of God. Not to go about casting out demons.

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:2

I've been meaning to do a post on this topic, but not a lot of time these days to get into such a deep topic.

As for authority, that is about Jesus. The more we conform to the image of Jesus the more we realize that humility and servanthood is what God values, not casting out demons or amazing miracles. The most amazing miracle is the transformation of a heart filled with sin, and a mind conformed to the world, to a person whose whole life is dedicated to God and to loving others as oneself.

"And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching,
[SUP]29 [/SUP]for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes." Matt. 7:28-29

"But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic—“Rise, pick up your bed and go home.” Matt. 9:6

But the most important verse is this one. Please note JESUS has the authority, and it is Christ that is the only authority we have.

"And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. [SUP]18 [/SUP]And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. [SUP]19 [/SUP]Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [SUP]20 [/SUP]teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matt 28:17-20

Even Jesus had his authority from the Father before the resurrection:

"For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment—what to say and what to speak." John 12:49

Finally, this wonderful prayer to the Ephesians which deals conclusively with the authority of Christ.

"For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, [SUP]16 [/SUP]I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, [SUP]17 [/SUP]that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, [SUP]18 [/SUP]having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, [SUP]19 [/SUP]and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might [SUP]20 [/SUP]that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, [SUP]21 [/SUP]far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. [SUP]22 [/SUP]And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, [SUP]23 [/SUP]which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all." Eph. 1:15-23

I believe that we are entering in a time where there is a generation that hasn't experienced the fullness of Christ, and that He is preparing us to pray, believe and heal those around us. Not necessarily for ourselves but for the healing to glorify Christ to us and to the individual who may not believe, and the healing would be a tool to bring that person to salvation or closer to salvation. Many times in the gospels Jesus healed and did miracles to show those watching and listening that He is the Son of God, that they might believe in Him. Lazereth was raised from the dead to show that Jesus is the Son of God. Lazereth, died again later. So, I believe that the Lord wants to use us in that way to bring people to the salvation in Him that they desperately need. But we are in a time of preparation, prayer, reading the Bible and learning to hear and obey the Lord's voice. I do believe He's using us now,but I also believe its going to increase as the time is near for the Lord's return. I'm sorry if I'm babbling, but I get excited about how the Lord is and is going to use us.

The authority that we are given is over principalities and rulers of darkness. Basically demonic spirits. We have no spiritual authority over each other or an unbeliever. The Holy Spirit is a perfect gentlemen and will not override a persons freewill. Yes, in the Name of Jesus we have authority over any and all evil spirits. As for the coffee thing, go buy some more. God has given you the ability to purchase food and drink. However, if we cannot, then He will provide by other means. Be it supernatural or by the hand of other saints. Yes, Jesus feed 5,000 with 3 fishes and two loaves. Yet Paul always asked for gift for the church in Jerusalem, because they were heavily persecuted. They lost their jobs and were shunned by the people. Their aid came from gentile believers.

No matter the case, the fact is that God wants us to rely on Him for everything. He is the FATHER. Just like a child relies on His father. That is why Jesus said suffer not the little children for such is the Kingdom of God.

Our authority is the Holy Spirit, who LIVES inside us, WALKS with us, and, we can know NOTHING< learn nothing of Him and His Word without His revelation done unto our mind, which we are to choose to take to heart, and, use, by faith He's given us, to help others see Him, too. Through faith, 'mountains' can move, with that of a mustard seed, you say, 'move mountain,' and by faith, that 'mountain' will MOvE :)

now, that's what I call 'authority.' :)

Blain, Ive wondered and prayed about this same, Ive seen miricals, and Ive seen some not.
I always asked what was the differance, and what is it you ask God?
Then I saw scripture that said, that to know Jesus, is to walk as He walked as the scripture says.
I looked at Jesus what Jesus said, to others, in prayer and did.
Jesus said I do nothing on my own, all comes from the Father above, Jesus also said, not my will but yours Father.
I believe we recieive always when we pray, its just wether we are humble and willing to see the answer.
I learned from this how God desires the perfect for us, and sometimes we need to hear His will, to see the perfect given.
Its not about desires, but what is desired by God for us and others when we trust in Him.
Its about faith and humility, for when we do this, we learn His will, and in this, see the mirical given in all we ask. :)
And His will, His answer? well it is always much better than what we thought should be the answer. :)

God bless
