1 Samuel 26:5 (ESV)
Then David rose and came to the place where Saul had encamped. And David saw the place where Saul lay, with Abner the son of Ner, the commander of his army. Saul was lying within the encampment, while the army was encamped around him.
1 Samuel 26:6 (ESV)
Then David said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Joab’s brother Abishai the son of Zeruiah, “Who will go down with me into the camp to Saul?” And Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”
1 Samuel 26:7 (ESV)
So David and Abishai went to the army by night. And there lay Saul sleeping within the encampment, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head, and Abner and the army lay around him.
1 Samuel 26:8 (NASB) [SUP]8 [/SUP] Then Abishai said to David, "Today God has delivered your enemy into your hand; now therefore, please let me strike him with the spear to the ground with one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time."

"So David took the spear and water jug near Saul's head, and they left. No one saw or knew about it, nor did anyone wake up. They were all sleeping, because the LORD had put them into a deep sleep."
1Sa 26:15 And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee inIsrael? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came oneof the people in to destroy the king thy lord.
1Sa 26:16 This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthyto die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD'S anointed. And now seewhere the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.

If the LORD has stirred you up against me, let Him accept an offering; but if it is men, cursed are they before the LORD, for they have driven me out today so that I would have no attachment with the inheritance of the LORD, saying, 'Go, serve other gods.'

Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.
1 Samuel 26:21 (NASB) [SUP]21 [/SUP] Then Saul said, "I have sinned. Return, my son David, for I will not harm you again because my life was precious in your sight this day. Behold, I have played the fool and have committed a serious error."
