Gnostic junk. Not worthy of your time. Study the Gospel of John.

I doubt the Gospel of Thomas exists, and I won't believe it exists until I see it for myself!!!

(I guess Thomas and I are very much alike!!!).

You PM'd me the exact same message as your above post. So here's my reply.

Hi, good to meet you Thomas. I don't know enough about The Gospel of Thomas to discuss it but I do know it's a Gnostic gospel (not a biblical book). Don't bother with it, read the Bible instead. Welcome to CC.

Tintin

In other words, the Gnostic gospel is not built on God's Truth but lies. Don't squander your time with it.

the 'gospel of thomas' is a text produced by the second century gnostic cult...it has no value to christians for establishing doctrine...but it can be useful to historians as an example of the beliefs of early 'christian' cult movements...

Be very careful what you read outside the Bible, if your foundation of faith is not strong you are opening up yourself to Satan's deception and you will not realize it before it is too late.

The "Gospel of Thomas" does exist; however, not in the sense you're thinking. During the early eras many counterfeit epistles were written in the name of an apostle, or perhaps even an early church father. The purpose for this was mainly for either political gain, or theological motive. How do you think some of the earliest heresies such as gnosticism gained so much prevalence? It did so ultimately by fictitious autographs. What better way to spread a lie than to author a fictitious work and claim it had been authored by an apostle, and/or someone closely related to an apostle, such as a student?

And so, we have the "Gospel of Thomas," a writing completely out of tune with other NT witnesses. I think it is altogether fascinating that in all the works of the early church fathers, not one cites the Gospel of Thomas, or regard it as authoritative

I think the (supposed) Gospel of Thomas was written more than a hundred years after Thomas would have been dead. There were quite a few books at that time that claimed to have been written by a disciple. This got the book sold, you must understand. This was common-place. But these books, again, were written, at the very earliest, at least a hundred years after any of the disciples would be died of old age.

One thing you got to remember is the closer you are to the event, the more accurate you are about it. You may even be an eyewitness to it. Would you be more qualified to report on what happened Sept 11, 2001 or WW1? Can you tell me what it's like during WW1? You will have errors. I would prefer someone who was there and documented it instead of you telling me what you think happened.

That is how the Bible canon was made. The history channel broadcasts "Banned from the Bible" Very good show to watch. I learned a lot from it.

Is there anything that one of you could share with this man?

Is there a reason why this man felt heavy about these writings?

Is there something worrying in those writings?

So if you can't trust God's Word to be Truth, how do you believe in God and trust him? I wouldn't take the History Channel's understanding as gospel (pardon the pun). Some people will do anything they can to discredit Christianity.

I would say refuse these writings and adhere to the Bible.

GOD is above all things and has delivered to us the Holy Bible.

After reading the entire i find myself not in search for any other writing, but marvel at what is Written within.

Oh the depths.

The Bible isn't the only source to learn from. I'm not too sure that was an attack on me for speaking my mind. I didn't say the history channel was Gospel. I said I learned some things from it. Please don't put words in my mouth. If you are unsure as to what I said, you are more than welcome to ask me what I meant. I might have said it wrong.

Yes, from what I had known. Thomas was banned because of a simple verse which the ones who put the Bible together had thought that the people would perceive it in a wrongful way. The verse is metaphorical in a spiritual way.

This is the controversial verse.

114. Simon Peter said to them, "Make Mary leave us, for females don't deserve life."
Jesus said, "Look, I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every female who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of Heaven."

Which this verse means to strengthen her spiritual soul as the men. woman was consider to be weak because of Eve was so easy to be deceived and fell into temptation. That's why the devil has chosen her, and since it is not good for man to be alone, and a woman plays a big role in a man life which means that the woman is his weak spot. The man could only submit to God and his wife ( and which God comes first). But he had listen to the woman over the commands of God.

the Nicolaitians of Ephesus & Pergammum (Rev 2) seemed to have derived from the Nicolas of Antioch (Acts 6). Nicolas may have been misunderstood, or may have strayed from the Church. Either way, heretics tried to co-opt his name & authority.

The same may have occurred with the "doubting" Apostle Thomas. Thomas may have kept a copy, of Jesus' sayings, which heretics obtained, and tried to co-opt for themselves.

Not everything in the Gospel of Thomas is heretical -- has anyone read through it, and "separated the wheat from the chaff" ? Perhaps discerning how the GoT was twisted into antagonism with the Church would be worthwhile ? The same could even be done, with the G-o-Judas, within which are some things said that seem similar to Christian Scripture.
