“I have loved you,” says the LORD. “But you ask, ‘How have you loved us?’ This is the kind of question rarely spoken, but often harbored in the heart. It asks, “God, if you really love me why are things the way they are?” “Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” declares the LORD. “Yet I have loved Jacob, but Esau I have hated..” Our Lord gives us something to compare our lives too. The Story of Esau and Jacob.
The Love God had for Jacob, since the beginning was to show us the difference between the chosen and the not so chosen, which was Esau.
Some challenges Jacob face through out his life, Having trouble being honest (Genesis 27:5-29), fear of facing his brother Esau who wanted to kill him (Genesis 32:3-21), Having difficulty trusting God to provide for him and his family without taken matter into his own hands (Genesis 32:3-21, 33:1-3), having problems maintaining control and order in his family (Genesis 34:1-31, 35:22; 37-38).
For God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).
