THE PASSOVER BEGINS Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at sundown. The Lord's Supper is an important part of worship in the Christian church and it is referred to by a number of different titles. It is called the Eucharist, the breaking of bread, the last supper, and its more commonly known reference, is that of Communion. The denomination one belongs to determines when the Lord's Supper is observed. The times range from once a month, to once every week In examining the scriptures, one will find that the event Christians observe which they call communion is actuality the Passover, and it should be observed once a year.

A FEAST OF THE LORD The following verses show that Jesus and His disciples, by observing the Passover, were directly obeying a commandment of God.

In (Leviticus 23:1) And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, (2) Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts (4) These are the feasts of the Lord, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. (5) In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the Lord's passover.

One should take note of the fact that verse (2) and (4) point out that these feasts are feasts of the Lord. Contrary to popular belief, the Passover does not belong to any particular group of people. As indicated by scripture, the Passover belongs to the Lord for it is the Lord's Passover.

DISCIPLES PREPARE FOR THE PASSOVER The verses in Leviticus show why Jesus and His disciples observed the Passover. Next the following verses, taken from the book of Luke, will clearly show, that the meal, which Jesus and His disciples were partaking of, was that of the Passover.

Jesus required of His disciples to go and prepare a place for the Passover. Luke (22:8) And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the Passover, that we may eat.

This verse makes it clear, that Jesus is instructing His disciples, to go and acquire a place, so they could observe the Passover and partake in the Passover meal. (9) And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? (10) And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in. (11) And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the quest chamber, where I shall eat the Passover with my disciples Jesus informed His disciples, as to where they would find the place, where the Passover would be held. Note in verse (11), again mention is made of the fact that they will be partaking in the Passover meal.

The following verses confirm that the disciples did acquire the place where the Passover would be held and that they were sitting down to eat the Passover meal.

Luke (22:13) And they went, and found as he said unto them: and they made ready the Passover. (14) And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. (15) And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

Verse (15) again, here Jesus is saying they are going to eat the Passover meal. The next day He was crucified, however that does not warrant the changing of the name, of the event. The fact remains that it was the Passover meal, regardless if one calls it the last supper or the Lord's supper or any other name they may chose to refer to it as.

WHAT THE PASSOVER REPRESENTS The Passover commemorates the exodus of the children of Israel from Egypt by the hand of the Lord. Israel had been in captivity in Egypt for over 400 years. Because of Pharaoh's refusal to release the children of Israel from bondage, God afflicted Egypt with plagues. The last plague issued was the killing of all the Egyptians first born. A death angel was to pass through the land, and to ensure that their first born would be spared, the Israelites were instructed by God, to mark their door posts with the blood of a lamb. The death angel would see the marking and thus pass over the house that had blood.

CHANGE IN THE PASSOVER While Jesus and His disciples were commemorating the Passover, Jesus gives His disciples a set of instructions. In (Matthew 26:26) And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. (27) And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; (28) For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. (29) But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

Jesus told His disciples to eat of the bread, for that represented His body, and He told them to drink of the cup, for that represented His blood. Jesus tells them, His blood is of the new testament, and it is shed for the remission of sins. Jesus is speaking of the fact, that He will be crucified for the sins of man and we know that, it is only through the shedding of Jesus’s blood, that men can receive forgiveness for their sins. Hence Jesus became our sacrificial lamb. You will find in the Gospel of Luke where Jesus told them to partake in this meal in remembrance of Him.

(Luke 22:19) And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

Now Jesus said to do this in remembrance of Him, the above shows that He is speaking in reference to observing the Passover. Again the Passover has a set time when it is to be observed , the 14th day of the month of Abib. This is the time that God appointed, for its observance. It should not be celebrated at the discretion of man.

The Passover was never eaten sitting down.
I have never seen it portrayed any other way than with people sitting down.

Eating in haste does not necessarily mean nobody sat to eat the Passover meal.

He was crucified on the preparation day for the Passover. All 4 Gospels mention it was the preparation day and John says it was the preparation for the Passover in John 19:14 when He was before Pilate. That would indicate that it was Nisan 14 when the Passover Lamb was killed at evening and prepared to be eaten that night during the beginning of Nisan 15 before morning. Doesn't that mean the Apostles and followers ate the Passover Lamb after He was crucified? Nisan 14 ended at Sunset on the day of His death. Nisan 15 started at that time and they were to eat the Passover Lamb before morning.

Nisan 15 is the first day of the feast of Unleavened bread which lasts for 7 days. The first day of Unleavened bread is a High Sabbath when no work can be done. That is why they were hurried to take His body down from the cross and place Him in the tomb before sunset as the Gospels clearly say.

Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭5:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:

and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.

And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD's passover.

For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭12:3, 5-8, 10-13, KJV‬‬

“take to them every man a lamb,”

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:29‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male”

“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take of the blood,”

“And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas: Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them. But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.

And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go. And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭23:13, 18, 20-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD's passover. “

“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:23-26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭5:6, 9‬ ‭

Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭5:7-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

passover and feast of unleavened bread is communion taken in repentance remembering Jesus sacrifice

He instituted His Last Supper Bread and Wine after Sunset following Nisan 13 and the beginning of Nisan 14. He knew He would die on Nisan 14 as the Passover Lamb and was giving His followers a new way to show His death as often as they chose to in remembrance of what He was about to do.

Thank you for all the Scriptures you provided above. Those are very helpful.

posted this in another thread and may have some relevance here.

This year the days fall the same with Wednesday being the Passover preparation day.
Wednesday April 5 is Nisan 14. That would be crucifixion day when the Passover Lamb is sacrificed. Passover is that evening. Thursday Nisan 15 starts after sunset. They would eat the Passover Lamb and finish before morning.
Thursday April 6 is the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread which lasts for 7 days. The first day is a high Sabbath and no work can be done.
Saturday April 8 is the weekly Sabbath.
Sunday April 9 is the Feast of First Fruits. According to what some have pointed out. the Feast of First Fruits falls on the first day of the week after the weekly Sabbath during the Feast of Unleavened Bread. It is always on a Sunday or the first day of the week.
The Feast of Unleavened Bread lasts 7 days and would end on the following Wednesday April 12 which is another high Sabbath day one week after the Passover Lamb was Sacrificed.

You tell me brother if you have a thought
You are a frequent poster and must have seen the previous posts and threads about it. There is no question that Psalm 119 is the Son's prayer as was explained at length in those threads. The objections were addressed and even shown to be further proof it is the Lamb's prayer.

Thank you for all the Scriptures. The verses you shared are appreciated very much.

The reason the question was asked is because you know and quote Scripture so well. Your view is appreciated especially seeing how well you know the Word. Thank you.

Yes, you were in those threads. That is the whole point. Psalm 119 being His prayer proves He is the Son and shows His relationship to the Father, the law and the Word which He is. To know Psalm 119 is His very prayer is such a blessing at knowing Him.
