I tend to know quite a lot concerning end time prophecy in the Bible, but this particular part has always confused me. Simply due to the size and immensity of the city, and to the purpose of God making this...

Why is it so tall?
Wouldn't you once you reach the top of the buildings drift off into space?
Is it just the walls surrounding the city that are that high?
Wouldn't something of that magnitude gain a gravitational force of it's own?
What would that mean in terms of the Earth's rotation around the Sun?
Why even have the Sun if God's gonna be the light?
Are we gonna live on Earth in this city forever? I thought we live in Heaven forever.

I've even heard such theories as it will revolve around the Earth in space like the moon... o_O

In all of Bible prophesy, this is the one thing that just doesn't seem to connect. It appears to stand apart from everything else taught in the Bible. It just makes no sense to me. I'm just looking for any real explanation of this that helps connect the rest of the Bible in a logically coherent order, cause as for me I'm completely at a loss...

It is the Church, the body and bride of Christ, Rev, 21:21.

So you're saying it's metaphorical, not literal?
That is how John describes the New Jerusalem. If we suggest it is something else, we must find a text of scripture that describes it in some other way. It is called the city of God and the dwelling place of God. These terms depict the relationship of God to the Church. The Church is the dwelling place of God.

All the 1st heaven is = the firmament or what science calls the atmosphere.

Revelation 21:1-3, "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no more sea. And I, Yahchanan, saw the holy city,Yahweh Shammah, coming down from Yahweh out of heaven, prepared as brides adorned for their husbands. And I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying: Behold, the tabernacle
of Yahweh is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they will be His opeople, and Yahweh Himself will be with them, and be their Father."

For the 1000 year reign in which satan is bound there will still be humans on earth

Isayah 66:22-23, "For as the inew heavens and the new earth which I will make will remain before Me, says Yahweh: so will your seed and your name remain. And it will come to pass that from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh will come to worship before Me, says Yahweh."

Once satan is loosed then will be the battle of Har-Meggido (Armeggon), then ALL evil will be destroyed forever.

PRAISE YAHWEH!

Possibly the biggest deception mankind has ever faced is called "project blue beam". They PLAN on using holograms to fake the return of the Messiah. Sounds crazy, but its real. Search "CNN first hohogram." and then look into "project blue beam."

If it's metaphorical, then what are the metaphorical meanings of the intricate details of the city?

The "not literal" doctrine IS part of the "project blue beam" deception, the UN has been pushing "the cosmic christ" called Matreyu (sp). They will claim the kingdom of Yahweh is not literal, and "meeting christ in the air" is a matephor for "a higher state of consciousness. When they use their hologram, and people don't rise, many will be decieved.

THINGS TO LOOK INTO "PROJECT LUCIFER" "THE COSMIC CHRIST" "PROJECT BLUE BEAM"

Now that is a good question. It has been some time since I have taught Revelation and I do not exactly remember all of the specifics. This symbolism comes out of the O.T. and every detail depicts some characteristic of the Church. If you will give me some time I will put this information together for you.

new jerusalem is one way john's vision represented the bride of christ...that is the church or the kingdom of heaven...

it is very possible that there will be a physical city in the new heaven and new earth matching the literal description of new jerusalem in revelation...but i wouldn't say that is something the text absolutely requires...

It give a literal physical description: ( it even gives measurement)

Revelation 21:9-21, "And there came to me one of the seven malakim who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying: Come, I will show you the brides, the Lamb's wives. And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and chigh mountain, and showed me that great city, the holy Yahweh Shammah, descending out of
heaven from Yahweh, Having the glory of Yahweh. And her light was similar to a most precious stone, just like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; And had a great and high wall, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve malakim, and names written upon them, which are the names of the dtwelve tribes of the children of Israyl: On the east, three gates; on the north, three gates; on the south, three gates, and on the west, three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve
foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. And he who talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and its gates, and its wall. And the city lies four square, and the length is as large as the breadth. And he
measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand stadia; about 1,500 miles. The length, and the breadth, and the height of
it are equal. And he measured its wall: a hundred and forty-four cubits, according to human measurements, that the malak was using; about 216 feet. And the construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth beryl, The fifth emerald, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth onyx, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve
pearls; each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, as it were, transparent as glass."

So you're saying it's metaphorical, not literal?
Ya. Whole book is metaphor.
It's a vision of perfect peace, not of a literal structure.

Revelation 2:14, "Blessed are those who keep His Laws, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."

THE GATES ARE PHYSICALLY DESCRIBED IN REVELATION 21. (in my post above)

It is likely that 12,000 furlongs in Revelation 21:16 refers to the length of the perimeter of the city, and not the length of each side. That would mean each side is 3000 furlongs, or about 375 miles. Thus the height would be 3000 furlongs; 75% less than what you have supposed.

Hmm, you may be correct. I never looked at it that way.

In short, it's Eden restored, now spiritually manifested, one day physically manifested as all creation is made new, and the stains of sin and brokenness are wiped out practically.

But didn't He say it Himself by explaining why He used parables?

Revelation 21:4, "And Yahweh will wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there will be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, nor will there be any more pain, for the former things have passed away."

Parables were metaphors pointing to a real event or thing. By calling the New Jerusalem a metaphor what reality is it referring to?
