I have heard of this Book, that is now a movie, maybe several movies, off and on for many yrs. To my shame I had no idea what it was about.

I honestly thought it had to do with Pilgrims in Massachusetts forging across America, that had a Christian element to it. A Facebook friend, and former CC member, posted the CGI animated Movie there. She remarked that it was one of the best movies she had ever seen.
So I checked it out, and realized almost immediately I had the entirely wrong idea about it.

As I watched, I was struck not only by how well it was done, but how it actually affected me. Just a fantastic, encouraging watch. I'd encourage any who haven't read or seen this to watch it. Even if you have read it you will still enjoy it.

I read the book about 20 years ago. Very enjoyable and inspirational. 😎

second to the Bible this is arguably the most influential and widely read piece of English literature ever published :)

I saw the movie and thought it was great, very inspirational and encouraging. I read the book a long time ago and have a paperback version, but downloaded a more modern English version for my Kindle. I also ordered about 6 copies of the CD to send to Christian friends and family for them to see and be encouraged.

Part of my ignorance I can chalk up to my catholic schooling and upbringing. I can see how they wouldn't want to advocate that book.

Almost always the book is better than the movie, so I'm glad I saw the movie first!

Pay attention to the source of everything. John Bunyans book is the first hand information of his story and I wouldn't rely on "movies".

It was enjoyable to watch. I did fall asleep before the end, which is pretty normal for me while I'm watching a movie in the evening after work.

Does it make me a complete ignoramus that I have never read this? I dont know NOTHING about this book except the title, and that leads me to believe its talking about pilgrims!

I read the book about 40yrs ago and I loved it!! I was only 8 or 9 and didn't know it was about Christianity.

Then I read it again about 10 yrs ago. Great book. I tried to make my kids read it too but the language of the book was too hard for them I guess.

I must have gotten the one that was kind of like the KJ. But I like that kind of "talk".

I later found it in regular English (or American English) but they still didn't read it.

Hi Hevosmies, its a great book. More importantly, John Bunyan was a simple man, a tinker actually who some how managed to produce one of the greatest Christian books of all time. It is presented in such a way as a dream on his journey to reach the right way in Christ. What is more remarkable, is the way in which he tells of his story in an allegory or names and calls the those that help him "Help" or the ones that mislead him " Mr. Worldly Wiseman" into seeking deliverance from his burden through the Law, supposedly with the help of a "Mr. Legality" and his son "Civility" in the village of "Morality". rather than through Christ.

He calls himself the name "Christian" while he happily continues his journey until he comes upon three men named "Simple", "Sloth", and "Presumption". At one point he gets locked in the "Castle of Doubt" but is rescued by "Faith and Hope". Jesus is "Goodwill" who puts him back on the "Kings Highway" to the "Celestial City".

I often think of the name "Mr Worldly Wiseman" myself when I hear or see people like this character and we have all been locked in the "Castle of Doubt" from time to time.

I love this book, I read it a few years ago. A christian classic that ought to be in every church library.

One of the first books I read after becoming a Christian. It’s a favorite. I need to read it again.
It’s on my bookshelf looking at it as I type . I will put it on my list for next year .
Still have a few books to go through on this years list .

I would say PP has more to do with the outward influences on man whereas HW has more to do with the inward influences e.g. diabolus, conscience, will etc. It's been a while since I read both but both are great. My preference was HW.

From my understanding, John Bunyan was imprisoned for 12 years for not attending the parish church and preaching to his own crowd outside of the parish church. He had a Bible and also a copy of Foxe's Book of Martyrs in jail with him.
