I would like it if you saints would give a brief summary on this well known story.
Traditional teachings would have it captioned as the prodigal son or lavish son.....is there more to it??
It's an illustration of verse 10: "Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth". It's given in response to verse 2: "... the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them".

Here is the gospel:

1 Corinthians 15:

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures

The Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures;
The Lord Jesus Christ was buried, and He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.

Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

You preaching "the only way a person is reconciled to God is to turn to Him ... : Repent"

without telling that person the gospel as written in Scripture does nothing to turn that person to God.

The way in which we turn to God is through the Lord Jesus Christ.

If all you do is tell a person is "turn to God ... repent of your sin" without showing them how to turn to God (i.e. confess with your mouth Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead), you are not preaching the Gospel.

The way we turn to God, in which we turn away from Satan as our lord is to confess Jesus as Lord.

This is the action of faith by which we are saved.

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:10

  • with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

The truth of Scripture is that in our day and time we have the Comforter which would not come unless Jesus departed:

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

In our day and time, we are sealed with that holy Spirit of promise until the redemption of the purchase possession (still future):

Ephesians 1:

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

In our day and time, what we have as an indwelling, present reality is something the prophets of old inquired of and searched diligently:

1 Peter 1:

10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

vs 12 unto whom [the prophets of old] it was revealed that not unto themselves, but unto us

The prophets of old saw something they never attained to.

Hebrews 11 explains it this way:

39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

40 God having provided some better thing for us

Since it is the truth of Scripture that:

Jesus had to go away in order to send what we have in our day and time John 16:7);
We are sealed with that holy Spirit of promise until the redemption of the purchase possession (still future) (Eph 1:13-14);
What we have in our day and time was something the prophets of old had revealed to them that it was not unto themselves but unto us (1 Peter 1:12);
Those who obtained a good report received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us (Heb 11:39-40)

surely you can acknowledge the truth of Scripture ...
In our day and time just like the first century, if one of His sheep wander from Him and become lost, they are as sinners in need of repentance.

Found = Reconciled to God: Justified - Declared to be right with God.

Lost = Seperated from God. Unjust. Unrighteous. A Sinner in need of repentance.

For a sheep to be lost, it must first belong to the Shepherd.

That is what Paul taught them.

If that were the Gospel then why did you leave out all of what Paul said.

For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time. 1 Corinthians 15:3-7

Do you ever see anyone in the Bible preaching all that.

The Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is:

Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand.

That’s what the Apostles preached.

That what He sent Paul to preach.

So I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’

“Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,
but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance.
Acts 26:15-20

The way we turn to God, in which we turn away from Satan as our lord is to confess Jesus as Lord.

This is the action of faith by which we are saved.

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:10

with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

I've heard people misinterpret Romans 10:9,10 in such a way to mean we can "believe unto righteousness" today, but are still lost until we confess Christ, which may be next week and then we are finally saved next week, but that is not what Paul is talking about here. Also, someone who is moot (unable to speak) would remain lost according to that erroneous interpretation of Romans 10:9,10 for failing to "verbally" confess with their mouth.

Confessing with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believing in our heart that God raised Him from the dead are not two separate steps to salvation but are chronologically together. Romans 10:8 - But what does it say? "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, in your mouth and in your heart" (TOGETHER) that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, (notice the reverse order from verse 9-10) - that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Confess/believe; believe/confess.

1 Corinthians 12:3 - Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except BY the Holy Spirit. There is divine influence or direct operation of the Holy Spirit in the heart of a person when confessing Jesus as Lord. This confession is not just a simple acknowledgment that Jesus is the Lord (even the demons believe that), but is a deep personal conviction, without reservation, that Jesus is that person's Lord and Savior. So simply believing in our head (and not in our heart) that God raised Him from the dead does not result in righteousness and simply giving lip service to the words "Jesus is Lord" not by the Holy Spirit or reciting those words as a work for salvation is not unto salvation.

Right.

And at the time a person confesses Jesus Christ is Lord in his/her life and believes that God has raised Him from the dead, that person is born again.

What do you teach the born again believer who sins?

Do you believe the born again believer must confess with his/her mouth Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in his/her heart that God raised Him from the dead?

He (or she) has already done that.

The Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is:

Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand.
That is what John Baptist preached:

Matthew 3:1-2 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

justpassinthrough said:
That’s what the Apostles preached.

That what He sent Paul to preach.
Beginning in Acts, the gospel we preach is that Jesus Christ is Lord and God raised Him from the dead.

Acts 2:

29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted,

Acts 10:

36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all: )

37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

justpassinthrough said:
Acts 26:15-20
And keep reading in Acts 26:

21 For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and went about to kill me.

22 Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:

23 That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.

And the reason we need to preach the resurrection from the dead is revealed in Romans 1:

3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead

It is through the resurrection that Jesus Christ our Lord is declared to be the Son of God with power. That is why we must preach the resurrection.

What do you want me to acknowledge about Hebrews 11:39-40?

By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days. By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.
And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again.
Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented— of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.
And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin.Hebrews 11:30-12:4

Do you understand the context that the writer is writing to these Hebrew Christians?

I'll give you a hint. It's about enduring persecution, but remaining faithful to the end as the examples he gives in the previous verses.

Key Verses:

  • Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.

  • Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted

  • And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.

Please explain what the "something better" is, that God has for us, that we should not be made perfect apart from them.

That is what John Baptist preached:

Matthew 3:1-2 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

This is the Gospel that Jesus Christ preached.

From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 4:17

This is the Gospel that Jesus sent His apostles to preach -

And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits. He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts— but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics.
Also He said to them, “In whatever place you enter a house, stay there till you depart from that place. And whoever will not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”
So they went out and preached that people should repent. And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them. Mark 6:7-13

again

And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ So I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. hope renewed day by day won't mind if I jump in here.

I have answered this for you before, but, i'll go again-

the lost sheep still belongs to the Shepard . it is still His sheep as long as the sheep still considers the Shepard as his Shepard.

if the sheep wondered off and got lost ( sheep do this a lot, look it up ), then it did not rebel against the Shepard, and say " I will no longer be part of Your flock ". if it would have said this, and never repented of it, then the sheep is no longer saved, which probably means it never truly wanted to be led by the Shepard.

so, yes, lost- saved. rebelled- not.

Peter denied Christ- but did not walk away and not come back.

Judas betrayed Christ- never came back, hung himself and went to hell.

see the difference in between lost and rebel?

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9
In agreement.

We bring the believer to Scripture and show him/her what God's Word says.

The believer then is to agree with Scripture and God is faithful to cleanse from all unrighteousness.

If that person is born again (to use your vernacular “belongs to the Shepherd”), then yes that person is saved.

If that person is not born again (does not “belong to the Shepherd") then no that person is not saved and he/she needs to confess with his/her mouth Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in his/her heart that God raised Him from the dead.

Please explain what the "something better" is, that God has for us, that we should not be made perfect apart from them.
The "something better" relates to that better covenant, which was established upon better promises (Heb 8:6).

And I have already explained Here, Here, and Here.

However, you have yet to acknowledge what Scripture reveals concerning this issue.

Again, you stop without reading through to vs 23. Why is that, justpassinthrough?

In his witness to Agrippa, Paul included the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

Do you not realize how relevant the resurrection is to the Gospel of Christ? 1 Cor 15:17 tells us And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

If you do not recognize how vital the resurrection is, you've got some studying to do because you might not be born again, and if you're not born again it explains why you do not recognize that what we have in our day and time is "something better".
