We are doing this to honor the day that the Lord blessed and declared Holy. On this day, we are to rest from the work required of us to survive and give over to the Lord for our wellbeing. So: seeing an R rated movie. We are told that we are to be clean, that includes spiritually. This is not giving control of our lives to God.

Going to a ballgame depends on the individual. Having fun, sharing love with others, such things are of God. Making sports an idol as many do is not. This should be family and friends time.

Shopping, this is in the category of work we do for our well being without looking to God for that. But God would not want us to go hungry because we aren't allowed to shop. That would be legalism. We should have arranged to shop on a day that did not belong to the Lord.

But we each need to think this through as if it is through the Lord's eyes, not legalistically.

So Paul was reaching the Jews by visiting them in their synagogues and that is some how saying that we should keep the sabbath? Does this also mean that when he preached using Greek poets, that we should also be using Greek poets as well?

Paul was teaching who?

Act 13:42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.

Act 13:44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.

What city was this?

Oh yeah, I remember now the GENTILE city of Antioch.

The Sabbath rest was given to God's children- yes, but in different ways. In the old testament things were done physically that are now done spiritually in new testament times. For example, David fought physical battles, but we fight spiritual battles- read Ephesians 6. There is an old and new covenant, and the Sabbath was under the old covenant. The Sabbath the new testament speaks of is when we rest with God in heaven for all eternity. Any commandment in the old testament would have to be reinstated by Christ in order for us to follow it because He now has ALL authority (Matthew 28:18). That leaves no authority for Moses or the prophets like Elijah. In Matthew 17:5 God Himself covered Moses and Elijah leaving only Christ to be seen and said He was His Son- to listen to Him only. In Romans 7:1-4 God also illustrates how we are dead to the law of Moses that we may only listen to Christ. The new testament says that if you obey a law that you must obey all of that law (Galatians 5:3). Therefore if you are going to obey any part of the laws of Moses, including the Sabbath Day, you must also find a high priest to physically sacrifice an animal on your behalf for the forgiveness of sins. Good luck with that seeing as he'd have to be over 2,000 years old. Not only that, you would have to say to Jesus (our high priest today) "Your sacrifice for my sins was not good enough." (Hebrews 4:14). You can not obey both covenants- just like in marriage, that would be committing spiritual adultery. Jesus fulfilled the old law and nailed it to the cross (Colossians 2:14), would you be so brave as to attempt to bring back what He shed His blood to take away? The Sabbath Day celebrated a finished physicality, The Lord's Day (Sunday worship) celebrates a finished spirituality. Is there going to be a physical Sabbath in heaven? No there will be nothing physical. This means at some point the physical Sabbath will be done away with. Hebrews 8:13 says "By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear".Do you not see the pattern? Physical worship in physical bodies = old testament. Spiritual worship in physical bodies = new testament. And finally, spiritual worship in spiritual bodies = the end of time. Don't you see God is bring us to a state of being with Him?

Well, how do you feel about "good luck trying to keep the sixth Commandment"? Or how about "good luck with your spouse trying to keep the seventh Commandment"?

Once again it all boils down to only the fourth Commandment.

Uh, what soliciting was involved in providing a link to an article that answers a question? Was there a plea for money or membership there? NOPE, it was an informational article.

It says they mean 'anything' including churches and doctrine.
As I said if you have a beef, take it to the mods...not me. If you draw me in any further I WILL TAKE IT TO THEM.

Dan, to speak legalistically is to DO without the spirit of the Lord. If you have the spirit without any do, then the spirit is no good to you. There is always thought behind everything we do, and either that thought behind our acts is from God or it is from something else. You can't separate God from our acts they work together.

You could go to a ballgame on the Sabbath for fellowship and love, to share with someone. You could go to a ballgame because you watch someone get the better of someone else by winning from them, and get pleasure from the other's defeat. Doing the same thing, different motives from a different spirit.
