I have a wife and kids I am supposed to support and raise. If i don't defend myself then they don't have me.
On the other hand, if you just watched some thug slaughter your wife and kids, maybe preach to him the while, this would invalidate your supporting and raising them rationale. Also, after slaughtering a few more neighbor families for the Lord, whose numbers were also up, you never know: he may come to the Lord.

True. And as my grandmother used to say, "Waste not, want not."

That's why I practice at the range with each of my guns. Unlike the random spray and pray psycho killer...I like to actually hit what I am shooting at.

That's the difference. The assailent isn't usually concerned about who he hits. My target would be pretty clear...the jagoff shooting innocent people.

I agree but what about the part of my statement about defending yourself?
I have a wife and kids I am supposed to support and raise. If i don't defend myself then they don't have me.[/QUOTE]forgive me for asking the question the way that i did.
I didn't mean it the way it sounds.

No worries. I am glad you did state it that way because some people here needed to hear that answer.

And this is a really important point too. Some will make the distinction that they will use violence to defend others but not themselves. As you point out, even personal pacifism can be very damaging to one's family, and really is akin to the sin of suicide. How much do I really love my kids if I just sit there and allow someone to kill me, when I could have fought back? What about the fact that I belong to God who is the true owner of my body. Should I not protect what God has given me? What about my friends and family that depend on me? What about the fact that my murderer may have other victims on his agenda?

I don't see any way out of calling it a sin and calling some forms of pacifism hateful. We should practice non-violence, and be examples of non-violence, and preach non-violence. But we should also preach justified self defense and stop perverting the Bible on this subject.

Someone here (I won't mention the name) said we need to have faith in God to protect us.

I would risk my salvation to kill someone while defending an innocent person because of my faith in God.

Faith? Hmm I think that might be a little faith.

And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Lk.12:39

Good men don't allow attackers into their homes.

Well, rest assured your sins are covered if you're in Christ.

The person you speak of reminds of the guy that wouldn't let himself be rescued in a flood. He refused to get in a boat that came for him and refused to climb in a helicopter that came for him. When he drowned and went to heaven, he asked God, "why didn't you save me!!" God said, "What do you mean, I sent a boat and helicopter."

God's not always going to save us, but he gave us the proverbs and lot of good advise in scripture to preserve our lives. And Christ specifically commanded us to spend money on weapons, even if it meant selling some of our clothes.

And amen on the sovereignty.

To me faith is trusting the Sovereignty of God. If you don't believe God is Sovereign how can you trust or have faith in Him.

Just my belief on having faith.

If someone threatens those that I care about I will certainly defend them with appropriate use of force.
*Please put me on your list, and use the force of prayer it works everytime, your stuff not sure. :)*

Love thy God and love thy neighbor.

If you love God, you will believe in him and FOLLOW him.

Pacifism is no sin, but we are all sinners, no matter.

Though pacifism isn't a sin, we are called to defend the helpless and guide His children home.

For any who are opposed to self defense, don't ever call the police.

No joke, I wouldn't trust my children with anyone who holds the "anti-defense" view. No zoo, no sleep-over, no way.

No, I'm saying we should care more for the victim, Not saying we should not love you enemys, but we should not love what they do.

So who's saying they love the work of a criminal by endorsing a humane way of death? Why should that mean they care for the victim less?

I don't get why you mention valuing life less just because people are concerned if a lethal injection was not administered properly.

Would you rather the criminal was tortured and brutalized before death? Would that mean the victim is cared for more?
