Perhaps you could post the Scripture that says wives are to "obey" their husbands. I can't find that one in my Bible.
I do find this one though.
"submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ." Eph. 5:21
In the Greek, the word "submit" is not found in any of the manuscripts of verse 22.
Submit is a totally different thing than obey.
Submission is always voluntary, and it involves using discretion. For example, a husband should never demand his wife sin, or do things that are offensive. Neither should a wife.
In fact, the entire passage in Ephesians is actually about husbands loving their wives, as Christ loved the church. I don't imagine there is a woman anywhere, who would not willingly submit to a man who loves her the way Christ loves us.
As for authority, some really bad translations of the Greek going on in many passages. They make men all puffed up and prideful. I pray that the Holy Spirit will help these men understand that Christ is the only authority, and we are all to obey and submit to him.
Sadly, abuse by men in the church of their wives is rampant, and often based on this very poor interpretation of Scripture, that a wife should "obey" her husband, when that word is never used.
