In complete defiance of the Word of God, many women usurp authority over their husbands. I am not talking about the women who do not obey their husbands but worse they tell their husbands what to do! The Bible is clear that this is sin yet it is common.

A godly wife should definitely love and obey to her husband (the head of the family) even as she obeys the Lord, and the husband should reciprocate that love just as he loves the Lord; this will foster harmony in the home. Also, cooperation and selflessness are essential for a wholesome marriage.

Perhaps you could post the Scripture that says wives are to "obey" their husbands. I can't find that one in my Bible.

I do find this one though.

"submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ." Eph. 5:21

In the Greek, the word "submit" is not found in any of the manuscripts of verse 22.

Submit is a totally different thing than obey.

Submission is always voluntary, and it involves using discretion. For example, a husband should never demand his wife sin, or do things that are offensive. Neither should a wife.

In fact, the entire passage in Ephesians is actually about husbands loving their wives, as Christ loved the church. I don't imagine there is a woman anywhere, who would not willingly submit to a man who loves her the way Christ loves us.

As for authority, some really bad translations of the Greek going on in many passages. They make men all puffed up and prideful. I pray that the Holy Spirit will help these men understand that Christ is the only authority, and we are all to obey and submit to him.

Sadly, abuse by men in the church of their wives is rampant, and often based on this very poor interpretation of Scripture, that a wife should "obey" her husband, when that word is never used.

The husband is to receive his wife foibles and all just as the Lord receives us.
How can I 'demand' submission from my wife when my own submission to the Lord is full of holes?
We are partners in His grace.

Men and women are equal in the mind of God.
Only in the mind of man is man superior - in any way.

If you think a man should have authority (read control) over a woman just decide which type of person you are from this list - authoritarian, meglamaniac, misogenist, or just plain unpleasant. And realise these are not traits which are likely to be seen in a good light by God. So good luck with that, I'm sure he'll give thought to the answer "but I thought it said in the Bible..."

Actually I don't think he will :)

Sheesh. Wished I'd seen this thread this morning. I just spent most of my day cutting out a 3'X3' hole in my bathroom wall cause' the missus told me to (she made me do it). That and because she's "gotta" have built-in shelves in the bathroom we're presently remodelling. Do it while we're in the mess is her reasoning, the mrs. bossypants. I'm gonna make her repent as soon as I'm done typing this message. And she better obey .... or else
