This is for a real Christian that fights against porn addiction, and/or who has and won.

Even thou some Christians will be disrespectful and get on here and tell me how porn is ok, not sin... you can do a you like, but you are worthless Christians (in my opinion) any way just to let you know.... and what you have to say will be worthless.....

My son is fighting porn addiction. He gives me all electronics at night so he can not get on line. His tablet, smart tv remote and phone. But the memories, the imagines… he keeps getting plagued with in his head. I pray over him and I hear him at night begging G-d to deliver him.

What did you do to be free of porn.... and the memories of it playing in your head?

Please help me help my son.... there has to be some Christians free from this sin!?!
There is a way out of this addiction, but I'm not sure you would be willing to accept it. I could start quoting the bible, but will just give a personal testimony.

I grew up in a Christian household, and made a commitment to Christ at a young age. I was determined to follow after Christ and live a pure and holy life for him. However, once I reached puberty along, inevitably came impure thoughts. I honestly did not want them, I guess I would have sought prayer and guidance concerning them if I was not so ashamed to have them. I thought they would condemn me to hell. The more I feared hell due to them, the worse they got. If I could have had a computer in those days I would constantly have been watching porn on it, for I became consumed by lust, at the same time feeling rotten and dirty because of it. Eventually, I gave up with God for a while, believing I was too worthless to be a Christian, as I could not live a pure and holy life.
A few years later, my life was in a mess. Someone asked me to read a Christian book. I did so. In it was a chapter on Paul's message of grace. I was stunned by what I read. My right standing before God did not depend on how good I was, but the fact Jesus died for me. I had not heard that preached before. Being raised in a fundamentalist church, where the bible was preached as infallible I believed it, and dared to believe I could be a Christian, not based on my personal goodness, but faith in Christ who died for me.
It was hard at first, the impurities flooding my mind, I felt a hypocrite to be honest believing I could be saved by a righteousness of faith in Christ, but I persevered, and I found, by standing on a righteousness of faith in Christ, rather than believing my impurities barred me from righteousness before God, the sin, for the first time in my life started to lessen
I read once of a man who dreaded leaving his family on business trips, for when he did so he always ended up watching porn on his laptop. He was a slave to it, and could not stop. One day he joined a church where it was preached Jesus died for all your sins, past, present and future. He dared to believe it(as I found having no righteousness of my own before God) A short time later he was totally delivered from watching porn online. Paul wrote:
For sin shall no longer be your master for you are not under law but under grace Rom6:14

The more your son fears watching porn online, believing he may be robbed of his Christianity if it continues, the worse the addiction to porn will get. If you read rom ch7(KJV) it is all about this subject. Victory is knowing you have a sole righteousness of faith in Christ, but most refuse to accept it. God bless

Need some cheese with that whine?

That poster and I have crossed paths enough times in my first week here, to understand what they are all about. That is beauty of Discernment. It has a nasty way of exposing the truths of anyone.

Yeah fleeing from porn addiction.. cannot be done under your own steam. Either the person gets proud with an inflated ego for not doing porn or it just doesn't work at all.

Only Jesus can break it truly.

Know you are forgiven
Embrace it
Think on pure things

Hi Memyselfi, I left behind the very sinful life/lifestyle that I'd led during my 20's when I become a Christian two months after my 30th birthday. Unfortunately, what I was 'unable' to leave behind back then were many of the sinful memories :( My mind was filled with leftover, stinky garbage from those years and it plagued my "thought-life", if you will, in a way that sounds pretty similar to your son's. BTW, I'm ~very~ sorry to hear that your son is having this problem, because particularly for a Christian, it is extremely frustrating, tiring, and painful (and sometimes frightening, especially when the enemy tries his best to make you feel 1. unworthy to be called a Christian, and/or 2. tries to convince you that you aren't a Christian and never were :().

I found the answer to my problem while listening to Christian radio one day. A pastor (Chuck Swindoll) was talking about this very problem, and he gave some practical ways to fight it, first of foremost of which it sounds like you son is already doing by choosing to deny himself access to the temptation. Intentionally turning away from temptation is hard to do, especially at first, but it becomes easier when practiced regularly (plus the enemy has a tendency to back away for awhile when we resist him in this way, just like the Bible promises that he will .. e.g. James 4:7).

To solve a memory/"thought-life" problem, Pastor Swindoll said that you need to empty your mind of the all of the garbage that's trapped up there, once and for all, and then fill it was something FAR better, so the garbage can never come back. For Pastor Swindoll, and now for me too :) that was principally done by "memorizing" God's word.

*(I'm talking about memorizing one or two verses/passages per week, not entire chapters or books of the Bible)

When you do, the verses you memorize begin to push the garbage from the front to the back of your mind, and then eventually, it goes away for good. Also, when you memorize Scripture there always seems to be plenty of room left up there for more verses and passages from the Bible (and other good stuff), but no room at all for the kind of garbage that once occupied that space. Pastor Swindoll told us that would happen and I can tell you that he was correct (as it worked out far better than I had hoped or imagined it would or could), I just can't tell you why/how it works.

There are many other benefits as well, not the least of which is the fact that Scripture memorization gives the Holy Spirit something big to work with (sinning, for instance, becomes WAY harder to do, because as soon as a temptation comes your way, the HS brings 2-3 perfectly memorized verses to the front of your mind to remind you why you shouldn't fall for the temptation (y)).

I used the Navigator's Topical Memory System when I began to do memory work more than 25 years ago, and I still use it today. It's the same system that the Navigator's have been using to train all of their missionaries with for about 90 years now, so it has a very proven track record (and you can get it in the form of an Apple or an Android app now too).

I won't kid you, memory work is just that, work, especially at first anyway, but the spiritual benefits that a Christian reaps from doing it ~far~ outweighs any work that he/she had to put in.

Praying for your son.

~Deut
p.s. - sorry about essay length post above , but if you think your son would like to give memory work a try, I'd be happy to help you get him started. Just PM me as I have some information that can make things easier for him, especially at the beginning. BTW, a memory "partner" can be very helpful for a number of reasons too, so maybe the two of you could work on the verses together if he decides he wants to do it :)

Psalm 119:9,11
How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word. Thy word I have 'treasured' in my heart that I may not sin against Thee.

Would you help me stay correct and In unity to the full measure of the stature of CHRIST and point me to the scripture that says we can be sinless In our thoughts.
Thank you STH for your question.

If we are in Christ then we have a pure heart and scripture tells us that out of the heart proceedeth evil thoughts (Mk 7:21) whereas the thoughts of the righteous are right (Prov 12:5).

Christ tells us But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh upon a woman to lust after her hath committeth adultery with her already in his heart (Mat 6:28) so that man does not have a pure heart. Instead we are to cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor 10:5).

Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him neither know him. Little children let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil: for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifest, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God does not committ sin; for his seed remaineth in him; and he cannot sin because he is born of God. (1 John 3:6-9.)

Wow. That's real Christ-like to call fellow Christians "worthless". I guarantee God disagrees with you. And if you think anything we say here will be worthless, then why are you even asking us for help??

Get him into counseling. How old is he? Taking away his electronics won't take away his addiction, only GOD can do that.. Good luck to both of you. :)
They stated that if one states that porn is OK the one stating porn is OK is a worthless christian and their opinion is worthless.

I will go one further. They are not a Christian at all or they are on their way out from being a Christian.

A Christian promotes Christ and His righteousness through GOD's Spirit, not porn. That my friend is of the other spirit. The spirit of this world; satan.

She did NOT attack the OP. She simply stated that this thread belongs in the family forum, because that is where all the thousands of threads on porn are housed. And exactly HOW did you help the OP by attacking Seven and calling her really weak?

I have that same thing of past memories and life "HAUNTING"

One thing i want to say: Often times people want GRAND TESTIMONIES of people who have been absolute rockbottom and gotten saved. I know this makes some people who grew up as Christians uncomfortable like "oh i dont have THAT kind of a testimony, I just kinda grew up in a christian home".

BE GLAD YOU DID

Its much better to grow up in a Christian home than be rockbottom and have a good testimony.

Its easier to STAY ON THE ROAD, than to GET ON THE ROAD from the ditch. Remember that! Because SIN does PERMANENT damage to your life! Sins are forgiven, YES, but the DAMAGE that it does is often STILL THERE.

The only thing I can add to this is:

Porn is a lot more available today but, what would you feel more at piece with?
Looking at porn to satisfy urges or, acting it out on others to satisfy his urges?

A dilemma!
Neither.

One of the secrets to overcoming these types of addictions for a believer, IMO, is "be transformed by the renewing of your mind".

This happens in certain ways.

a. Asking for the filling of the Holy Spirit

b. Filling your mind with God's Word, and letting it over time overwrite the garbage that has collected there.

c. Spending time in relationship with God. When temptation comes, it is not a test of willpower, it is a test of relationship. (don't know who said that)

d. Accountability to other believers.

e. NEVER GIVE UP. It will be a battle, but with Grace, one can win in the end

edit f. Correction, with Grace one WILL win in time.

f. Growth in the grace and knowledge of Jesus, which does not happen overnight and does not happen automatically, (at least our actions or inactivity can slow it down) but it will happen if we do things like "desire the word that we may grow thereby."

The real question is, why did God create us with these "desires" and hormones if they cause 100% of us to sin at some point? Doesn't exactly give us an advantage.

IT WASNT ME it was my flesh :D

God created us with good desires, but sin perverts these good desires. And we are in a battle.

As Christians, our old man was crucified with Christ, but we still need to PUT OFF the old man and put on the new man. And that is not accomplished by our willpower. Only through God's Power. But that does not mean there are not things we need to do. (see post 51)

I believe this forum is where the majority of posters come to dissect scripture, this is where the meat of the Bible is being discussed. And I believed a problem like the thread Op's would get more serious people praying, since they are feasting on scripture by dissecting it here in this forum. And to suggest taking it elsewhere is taking it where the serious discussions are not being discussed (to a degree of seriousness that is).

But, I am not opposed that I could be mistaken by 7's post. Like I mentioned before, we already crossed paths and have clearly misunderstood one another's intentions. And I am not opposed to believing I misunderstood her in this scenario.

I just see this forum as being more serious, and a problem would get serious prayer. That is the basis of why I opposed her post it should be elsewhere. That, and I viewed her post as being whiny, because we always have that in everything. Which is why I mentioned Judas, because he whined and opposed everything Jesus did. And each instance I have had with 7 was her whining, so I saw her as whining again.

That is not Christianity. It is gnosticism.

If we are in Christ we are redeemed but most are not in Christ, they are yet carnal.

I think you are making provision for the flesh but you are not aware that you are doing this.
How do you worship GOD with your flesh, although you WILL seek to purify your mind AFTER salvation to match your spirit that was made perfect?
