Saying that Jesus is the logos and then saying that all things are created through him would have made some sense to the Greeks, even if it would have been a little blasphemous to associate it directly with an individual.
To overgeneralize, the logos was a universal law, spirit, or reason pervading the universe. It is what made things tick and tick in a timely manner. You could think of it as akin to the Tao of Chinese philosophy.
As for "through," the word can just as easily mean "by." In fact, in the KJV, it's translated "by" about three times as often as it's translated "through."

Through Him (Christ/ the Word/ LOGOS) all things were made. That is John, chapter 1. The Word (LOGOS), CHRIST was in the beginning with God. Christ made all things, and all things were made through Christ. The Father and the Holy Spirit made all things. These things are all the truth.
