Where does say to speak 'quietly to themselves' in tongues. Do you mean totally quietly, in their mind, or kind of mumbling? I've seen both practices in the Pentecostal movement.

Let him keep silent in the church and let him speak to himself and to God could be interpreted to mean to speak some times when he is not in the church/assembly, since he must keep silent in the church if there is no interpreter.

I've been in some A/Gs where you don't see people praying in tongues in the meeting. You hear a tongue, followed by an interpretation, maybe two or three of them. There are also churches where people all pray in tongues a the same time. Some of these are churches where everyone prays in English at the same time, too, out loud.

People speaking in tongues all at the same time if it isn't supposed to be a 'message' still has the same affect on unbelievers. They can still think you are crazy. I've seen the look on visitor's faces.

I don't care if anyone thinks I'm crazy I have seen those in football games who say they are chritians and do far more foolish than being used in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Your negative experiences do not make the gifts null n void.

I don't find any scriptures prohibiting humans from jumping off a skyscraper and flying either. You want to be the one to try it out?
The Bible says to earnestly desire spiritual gifts. It does not say to earnestly desire to jump off sky scrapers. Are you obedient to this admonition in scripture?

Where? I will show you in 1cor 14:28,

28 "But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. "

I don't what you have seen, You asked where it is I have provided from the Very word of God.
You are interpreting this to mean praying quietly in church. He says keep silent in the church, and he could speak to himself and to God outside of the assembly.

Do you think it means praying in tongues in your mind or kind of quietly and if everyone does it there is kind of a rumble of everyone talking at the same time?

The Bible doesn't say anything about church looking like a football game. Let us talk about how to interpret I Corinthians 14. I believe in the operation of tongues and interpretation in church, btw. My point about thinking someone is crazy has to do with Paul's argument in the text where the unbeliever or unlearned says 'ye are mad', leading up to Paul's instructions on interpreting tongues.

That's what it says in context to one speaking in tongues without an interpretation.

I disagree with you there; but of course I have the gift of praying in tongues; so I know that it is indeed the refreshing.

If you don't, then I can see why you might want to look at these verses differently than I do.

And of course it does say in scripture that

Isa 28:12, To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

So I can see how, as a fulfillment of that prophecy, you would not be inclined to hear this truth that tongues is the refreshing.

I know that most unbelievers, when they hear others speak in tongues, get convicted to the core.

At least, that is how it was with me before I got saved.

So, not being the one who is actually speaking in tongues, unbelievers who are privy to hear will not experience the refreshing as does the person who is actually speaking in tongues. For we are talking about different people here.

Just because you feel convicted does not mean that we don't feel the uttermost joy when we pray in our prayer language.
I'm pretty sure if I practice in tongue ill a have gift of mastering tongue speech too

the gift of the Holy Spirit is not for one to master it but to follow the leading of the One who gives them.

There is not one gift given to the church that men & women have not abused. None more than HIS word and the pulpit. Yet both of them are stilled used by God as are the gifts of the Holy Spirt.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are given as HE chooses, therefore what is to be mastered is obeying The HS. In context to 1cor chapter 12 through 14 :)

The passage begins in Isaiah 28:9...

Isa 28:9, Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
Isa 28:10, For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
Isa 28:11, For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
Isa 28:12, To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
Isa 28:13, But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

It is at the beginning of this verse that a new thought begins to be established.
Okay, even if that was the case, simply looking at what it says- how does that apply to the church?
Is God using the church to speak unknown tongues at people saying "yet they will not hear"? Of course they won't hear- it doesn't logically follow that they would- because they can't.
Unless there is an interpreter- but then it's not unknown, is it?

You would expect Israel/Judah to hear, when God sends a foreign army to speak an unknown language, kill a bunch of them and take others into captivity- because it sends a clear message.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are real.

Some people fake having a gift so they seem more "important" or use it to grandstand. They've seen the real gift and they want it for themselves so they emulate.

Its the same with Christians in church. There are real ones who have been to Christ. There are some who have seen real Christians and attempt to emulate what they have seen.

I would suggest seeking the Real Thing for yourself long before taking advice from people who may or may not even understand what they are talking about.

Aint nothing like the Real Thing, baby...
Aint nothing like the Real Thing.

This is the absolute worst justification for the authenticity of the gifts of the spirit there is, and the one I hear most. When no demonstration of an authentic gift can be produced this is what people fall back on. Gifts of the spirit have to be real because their are fake ones. This makes no sense whatsoever.

I wasn't justifying anything.

I was stating facts.

If you don't like the facts then by all means plug your ears and cover your eyes and maybe none will get through...

LOL, that is your issue can be fake being saved? yet then become saved? For your information, people do things in the flesh that are outside of the gift God gave them to use it for. Was the ability to preach fake? Yet the message was not from the word of God ? was their ability to sing from God? Yet they did not use the gift for God

FAke Gifts of the Holy Spirit is one thing BUT abuses of the Gifts is another. You clearly don't know the difference. You know nothing of correction. Did Paul say the gifts being used in 1cor chapters 12 through 14 were fake or being abused?

There were not fake! The Gifts of the Holy Spirt were being abused. Get the context of the text being used. See outside of your bias.

There is no other walk intended for the Church of Jesus Christ. Jesus told the first church "tarry in the upper room until you are in dude with power." Thats what they did and they proceeded from that point. They did not do anything until they got the power. That is the only method outlined as a starting place for the new believer.

What we see today is basically a mental walk. A mental gospel. An abstract Jesus. What the baptism of the holy Spirit does is brings the believer into intimacy or closeness with God.

These are the ones that hear the voice of Jesus. They they know him they talked to him. He is real to them. Those that have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit have a different walk with God, and With Jesus ,and the Holy Spirit. These believers are no only in a walk, but are also in an adventure.
Awesome
I will never forget it.

So elaborate on what was being said, because I (I'm speaking for me) personally don't want someone praying over me and not know what they are saying, hell they can be praying on my downfall for all I know. So tell me when you call your self speaking in tongues what were you saying, or did God tell you to speak in tongues? Did God told you to speak in tongue, or did you do it because you thought it was the right thing to do?

There was a heaviness upon me that morning, as I stood alone in my motel room. It caused me to lean over backwards until I fell. It took 15 seconds for me to reach the floor. It was like I floated down on a cushion of air.
Staring upwards, I saw what looked like a tongue of fire suddenly swoop into the room. After swerving around a few times, it flew straight into my chest. My body started shaking.
I felt something rise up within me and like a bursting dam, an unknown language came out of my mouth! After several minutes, I stopped speaking and shaking. I got up and continued my day.
The gift of tongues is a wonderful blessing that I wish every believer had!
