Baptizo/baptisma = immersion, not necessarily in water.
For example, you may baptize someone in the name of another you would necessarily immerse them in their authority and way of life.
If you wanted to clean, you would baptize a sponge in a cleaning solution.
All very common in Greek society. When they heard "baptizo" they thought "immersion" in the thing that followed.
a brother look to John the baptizer as ministry to understand baptism for remission of sins
“And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying,
His name is John. And they marvelled all. And his father Zacharias was
filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; To give knowledge of salvation unto his people By the remission of their sins, And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.”
Luke 1:63, 67, 76-77, 80 KJV
“There was a man
sent from God, whose name was John.”
John 1:6 KJV
“
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
As it is written in the prophets,
Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Which shall prepare thy way before thee. ( Malachi 3:1)
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight. ( Isaiah 40:3)
John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. And there went out unto him all the land of Judæa, and they of Jerusalem, and were
all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.”
Mark 1:1-5 KJV
God designed this baptism spoke of it before it came forth spoke of the baptizer John who would precede Jesus the messiah preparing the people for salvation in him through repentance and remission of sins. Notice how they confess thoer sins as they get baptized ? And it’s done for repentance and remission of sins ?
That’s baptism tbat god designed an act of faith and act of onedience bexauae we believe Tony’s it seems silly “ well it’s just water that doesn’t mean anything “ to God it means if we hear believe and get baptized we’re acting in faith because we believe what he said
This part that John said confuses some
“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:”
Matthew 3:11 KJV
this isnt second baptism it’s John foretelling Pentecost and was already fulfilled
“
For John truly baptized with water; but
ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”
Acts 1:5
arhats what John was saying remember ? A few days later
“
he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:”
“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there
appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And
they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Acts 2:2-4
the first thing Peter says when they ask what do we do ? He says “ get baptized in Jesus name for remission of sins ( water )
and you will receive the holy ghost ( spirit )
when jesus said this
“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of
water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”
John 3:5 KJV
It is fulfilled like this
“Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,( water )
and
ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”( spirit )
Acts 2:38 KJV
Irs just one action we get baptized and Jesus gives us the gift of the spirit which John the baotizer foretold or it can be like this spirit first and then baptized in water for remission of sins
“And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.”
Acts 10:42-48 KJV
either way baptism always is done in water and receiving the spirit always comes only from Jesus in heaven to believers
“And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain
water: and the eunuch said, See,
here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said,
If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both
into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.”
Acts 8:36-38 KJV
“And straightway
coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:”
Mark 1:10 KJV
It’s just a simple thing like communion the bread isn’t really Jesus flesh we do not in faith because of what he said about it same with the water of baptism it’s only important because God said to do it same with anything he tells man to do it’s important to him even if we don’t get it
