That which is born of the flesh is flesh. This is the nature and character that we have from Adam. The nature by which sin entered the world and death by sin - we became by nature - sinners.

That which is born of the Spirit is spirit. When we are born again of the Spirit, a new creation is created within us that has a different nature and character than that which we received from Adam - 2 Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. We have escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust for we are seated in heavenly places in Christ [Eph. 2:6]- in the flesh or in the Spirit? In the Spirit we are seated in heavenly places in Christ because of that new creation. This is said in the present tense although it hasn't happened yet; it is one of those exceeding great and precious promises and is said in the present tense to cement the surety of the statement.

When speaking of the "flesh" there are different names used within scripture same as when speaking of the "spirit". I thought that it would be good to take a look at these two natures in comparison.

"flesh" vs "Spirit" - the "flesh" cannot please God - So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. [Rom. 8:8]; the "flesh" profited nothing - [John 6:63b]; in the flesh dwelleth NO good thing [Rom. 7:18] The flesh has at it's root - Sin and only produces sins as its fruit. "Spirit" is in contrast and opposition to the "flesh". As said above the "Spirit" is created in us from God and is therefore the "divine nature". The new nature - the divine nature is perfect and unable to commit sin - It is born of God. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin [as his fruit]; for his seed [the new nature, i.e. Spirit] cannot sin, because he [or it - the new nature] is born of God. [1 John 3:9, 1 John 5:18,19] The other day I was called a Gnostic for saying this - I looked it up - still don't think I am because throughout scripture - there are comparisons of the two natures.

"old man" vs "new man" - And that you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. [Eph. 4:24] And have put on the new man which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. [Col 3:10] The "new man" is also called the "new creation" as seen in Colossians 3:10 - we are renewed in knowledge by the Spirit of God that created the Spirit within us. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. [2 Corinthians 5:17] For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature (creation). IOW - thing done in the flesh - circumcision or uncircumcision profits anything - the only profit is being born again of the Spirit - the new nature - the new creation created in righteousness and true holiness and created after the image of Him that created it.

"inward man" vs "outward man" - For I delight in the law of God after the inward man. [Rom. 7:22] For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. [2 Cor. 4:16] That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man; [Eph. 3:16]
Our outward man perishes day by day - it is but flesh - but our inward man is to be renewed - nourished and replenished day by day with grace and strength by the Holy Spirit. The inward man delights in the law of God [Rom. 7:22] but the outward man is not subject to the law of God [Rom. 8:7]. THE CONFLICT within man until death or Christ's return! O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from this body of death? - I thank God He will deliver me through our Lord Jesus Christ.

"the mind" vs the "carnal mind" - These relate to our acts, conditions, and characteristics in relation to our thoughts, mental activities, reasonings, and imaginations. The carnal mind is enmity against God for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. [Romans 8:7] For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace [Contrasted to "flesh" (as "spirit" is) because it is that which is inward and invisible.] This "mind" (Spirit) serves the law of God [Romans 7:25] and delights in it [Rom. 7:22] - But I see another law in my members [flesh], warring against the law of my mind [Spirit], and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members [flesh]. It is a battle the flesh against the Spirit - that's why in Galatians Paul asked them - Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are you now made perfect by the flesh?

We cannot be made perfect in the flesh - sometimes it is a struggle to make our flesh line up with our Spirit. For the flesh lusteth after the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that you cannot do the things that you would. [Gal. 5:17] Our relationship with God is a walk - This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. [Gal. 5:16] We are to let that new creation, that new man lead us as it is renewed day by day and strengthened by the Holy Spirit. We will reside in this body of death until Christ's return or our deaths - UNTIL then, Let us be like Paul - Let us "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses." And we will be able to say "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." Remember that we are kept by the power of God - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:3-5

Just a subtle point I've always seen of born again. Our Lord Jesus was definitely referring to being of water, as in the flesh, as in amniotic fluid, we composed of mainly water, etc. Just born, in other words. But it is also painfully obvious one has to be born, to be born of the Spirit. Then I considered water also meaning repentance, like John's baptism, repentance, actually desiring to turn away from sin, mourning our depravity, seeing the horrors of sin and evil versus the holiness of God we need forgiveness from, repentance necessary for a true salvation experience. Repent! Commanded over and over in scripture, this nothing to debate.

Just thought I'd throw this out there, what I consider the supernatural, deep genius of truth levels in the teachings of our Lord Jesus, this one example that could only come from the mind of God, as many parables are of this deep, supernatural construct as only from the mind of God. The Bible, itself, proves God, in many ways.

Luke 18:13-14 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Matthew 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Good post and I agree...Like Jesus said...the spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak and most who teach you can loose salvation fail to see the conflict that takes place between the dead body (in sin) and the Sprit which is sin free and alive in Christ......The spirit that has been born of God does not, cannot and will not sin and is eternally sealed and saved in Christ, but the body of sin, sins every day as it is not subject unto the word of God and in deed cannot be.....THE best we can do in this world as saved sinners is to rise above the OLD MAN dia Christ in our life and be subject unto the willing spirit as opposed to the dead man!

Luke 15 [h=3]The Parable of the Lost Sheep[/h]15 Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him. [SUP]2 [/SUP]And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sinners and eats with them.” [SUP]3 [/SUP]So He spoke this parable to them, saying:
[SUP]4 [/SUP]“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? [SUP]5 [/SUP]And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. [SUP]6 [/SUP]And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ [SUP]7 [/SUP]I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.

Here we have the parable of the lost sheep, to be a sheep you must follow Jesus.
He says clearly that His sheep do get lost, and when they do get lost it is charged to bring them back to repentance.

What happens if they do not repent, the words in the bible that are of the Lord our God tells us the answer to that.

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance

Man has but one nature...

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Psa 39:5 Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

God's nature can be inserted into us by the Holy Spirit. We must take on God's nature.

our Father demands a 'just weight and balance'.

does Light dwell along-side darkness?
are we allowed to partake of the Lord's Table and the table of devils
at the same time?
'and what concord has belial with Christ?
and where do the 'luke-warm' stand?
and does the 'dog return to his vomit'?
or the sow 'to the wallowing in the mire'?
and do idolators and fornicators and sodimites
inherit the Kingdom of God???

a lot to think about, the conditions allowable for the
'good angel on the left shoulder - and the angel on the right???

Jeremiah 17:9 - yes, the heart, i.e. the natural heart, is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked - do deceitful that it constantly deceives and betrays us: so deceitful that none but God can really know it. "Those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies . . ." Jesus is speaking of the natural man. We hear sometimes many talk about a "change of heart" but it is never changed. A "new heart" must be given and this is accomplished by being born again within that new nature.

We are partakers of the divine nature - we take part of the divine nature - It is "born" within us when we are born of the Spirit.

One cannot serve two masters ....that is why when one is baptised they are committing the flesh man to death....and pledging allegiance to the Holy Spirit...to walk in newness of life
Romans 6:2-4King James Version (KJV)
[SUP]2 [/SUP]God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

[SUP]4 [/SUP]Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

The word of God is clear ...no explanation needed .....those who are led by the spirit, they are the sons of God....if you are led by the spirit you will mortify the deeds of the flesh and you will live...if you don't you will die....because of disobedience ....God gave us power to become sons of God

So ...
Romans 8:13
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Colossians 3:4-6
[SUP]4 [/SUP]When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

[SUP]6 [/SUP]For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

John 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Romans 8:14
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

parables illustrate teachings (doctrines), they don't create doctrine.
The man is illustrating a doctrine and nothing is wrong with that...what is wrong is when you create a doctrine...it is called a doctrine of man.....God says don't follow them...

are those who are without Christ in a better place than those who had known the way of righteousness and departed from it...

This is saying that there are those that hear the name of Jesus, but are not taught the way of righteousness.
Meaning they are not taught nothing but mere belief, and not how one in Christ is suppose to walk.
Therefore they walk in ignorance to the truth and will be burnt up immediately, rather than those who purposely continue to walk or turn back to walking in willful sin/darkness for these will suffer longer even to eternity.

Therefore they walk in ignorance to the truth and will be burnt up immediately, rather than those who purposely continue to walk or turn back to walking in willful sin/darkness for these will suffer longer even to eternity.
The scripture says they had known...to know is to have a knowledge of...They knew Christ...that is beyond belief. That is what God wants for us...to know the truth....They had known the truth and turned from it...that is why it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness1 Timothy 2:4
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

there is a conflict between the flesh and the Spirit. this is why we put to death the sins of the flesh. how do we put to death the sins of the flesh ? we do so in which manner the Spirit leads us to do so. born again of imperishable seed indeed :)

The day one believes, (God knows who these are), you then are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise God comes to live in us, or Christ made this possible, by his death (Col. :22) so we can be with God, where we get the new life in Spirit and truth, by the fact that Christ is raised for us s our new life in Spirit and truth, today, at this moment.

Now we make mistakes what does God do, beat us up, ground us, yell at us, condemn us?
Or dos he:

1 Corinthians 13:4-7New International Version (NIV)[SUP]4 [/SUP]Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. [SUP]5 [/SUP]It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. [SUP]6 [/SUP]Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

So we see now, maybe how deep God's love is and by this type love, how will we respond?

Titus 2:12New International Version (NIV)
[SUP]12 [/SUP]It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,

If you are not being taught by this type of love, then you are on your own.

Romans 2:4
Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

Get it, I pay, and love to all

You can get wisdom to anyone and Faith, like taking a horse to water

You can't force the horse o drink, well you could but unwillingly is not real is it?

So the same with believing or not, if it is forced, then it is not real is it?

Faith comes by hearing....you don't make someone believe...they either receive or reject the word...
John 6:44
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
