Rom 2:1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
Rom 2:2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
Rom 2:3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Rom 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
Rom 2:5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
Rom 2:6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

Rom 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
Rom 2:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
Rom 2:9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
Rom 2:10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
Rom 2:11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
Rom 2:12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

Rom 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
Rom 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
Rom 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another)
Rom 2:16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
Rom 2:17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,
Rom 2:18 And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;

Rom 2:19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
Rom 2:20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.
Rom 2:21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?
Rom 2:22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?
Rom 2:23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?
Rom 2:24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
Rom 2:25 For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.

Rom 2:26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
Rom 2:27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?
Rom 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
Rom 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Romans 9:22

The IRS? He will have mercy on whom He will have mercy on and will harden whom He will harden.
My guess according to Romans is that the Holyspirit romances all men throughtout their days untill they have hardenned themselves with sin to a point that the romance stops...then they would be worthless unless He used them still to complete His will and good pleasure..in other words candidates for vessels of wrath. Ok that didnt answer the question..i know...but i think the point is that God wants us to see His wrath...so He will show it...but not on His vessels of Mercy...He wants us to see His mercy and longsufferring, in contrast. But if there are those who hate Him and are storing up wrath against the day of wrath than i spose they will be saying fairly soon...rocks fall on us and save us from the wrath of the Lamb.

Romans 9:22
A vessel of wrath is someone that is going to end up in hell. That means that we can't just look at a wicked person and say they are a vessel of wrath, since they might repent at some time in the future.

However, there is an important exception to this. Speaking of false teachers, Peter says,

12 But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption, 13 and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, ... (2 Peter 2:12-13)

It says false teachers are "made to be caught and destroyed." This means that they have no hope of repentance, and therefore we can know that they are vessels of wrath.

Several other verses in this chapter make the same point.

1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. (2 Peter 2:1)

3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber. (2 Peter 2:3)

9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, (2 Peter 2:9)

17 These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. (2 Peter 2:17)

Jude says the same thing,

4 For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ. (Jude 4)

13 raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. (Jude 13)

This is a fate "to which they ... were appointed."

8 and "A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. (1 Peter 2:8)

Examples include false prophets such as Harold Camping, Benny Hinn, and false teachers such as Fred Phelps.

8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. (Galatians 1:8)

I thought I was a vessel of wrath for awhile. Then I determined in myself to be the very best vessel of wrath that GOD ever made. At some point I realized a vessel of wrath probably wouldn't try to be pleasing to GOD. And I am pretty much a Calvinist. Except the whole part about free-will not existing. That part I stray from Calvin. Even though his argument is sound I can't quite wrap my mind around it and still reconcile Jn 3:16 and other verses of the bible.

Everyone ever born of a woman is a vessel of wrath. That includes all of us. The only One ever born of a woman who was not a vessel of wrath was Jesus Christ.

In Adam, all died. In Adam's sin, we all became sinners, which made us God's enemies. No hope, no salvation, no life, nothing but judgment and eternal punishment, for all of us.

But God, in His mercy and in His love for us, sent Jesus into the world to die for us, so that we could die to who we are in the world, and be born again as the living children of God. Vessels of mercy. Alive in Jesus, in His resurrection.

In Christ,
