Many Catholic priests have began stating that Adam and Eve were not real people, but that the story is only allegorical. One would have to wonder why the sacrifice of Christ was necessary then. What do y'all think?

Genesis 2:7Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

That's interesting - I've never heard of Adam and Eve not being real. I'd be interested to hear the argument. Some counter thoughts: If Adam and Eve are just an allegory who were the 1st humans? Where does the bloodline originate? If they're an allegory isn't their entire bloodline? Including Christ himself?... I absolutely believe they were real and agree with your statement about them being a part of the reason behind Christ's sacrifice.

I do not think they were real. We are just figments of someone else imagination.

I took Old Testament studies at a Catholic college, taught by a Catholic priest, some thirty-eight years ago. He taught that the creation account, Adam and Eve, and Noah's flood were essentially mythical. So this has been the position of some within the church for a good many years. Possibly it is a view held by many priests.

Have you heard of evolution? :)

In liberal seminaries, I believe, the common position is that Adam and Eve are mythical beings.

How do you jive evolution with the story of Adam and Eve?

How disappointing, some do not believe Adam and Eve existed. Believe what you want from the OT and ignore what you don't I guess. Are you still a Christian if you don't believe they existed ?

Not only were they not mythical beings, neither were
Zeus and Hera, nor Akhenaton and Nefertiti, nor An and Ki.

All of the ancient civilizations were aware of the first man and woman.

They worshipped them and their progeny as gods.

I've heard this nonsense that Adam and Eve weren't real but in my mind it's a load of bollocks. How far do we take the mythical concept of truth? What stops a person from saying that Jesus wasn't God's Son, who he says he was? Reason is great but if you believe God's Word is Truth, you'll eventually discover that somethings just need to be taken on faith.

I saw a documentary that said Adam and Eve were space aliens.

It must be true, it was on the science channel.

Surely the science channel wouldn't just make things up.
Surely they wouldn't hammer unproven theories and pseudoscience together into a documentary just for ratings and money.

Surely not.

And while we're on the topic of "surely nots"...
Surely no lost men would go to a liberal seminary, where nobody believes the bible, and get degrees in theology they don't believe, just so they can get ordained and have a nice cushy job running a church somewhere.

Surely not.

Of course they were real. God had to start somewhere. They were the first humans and the guys who screwed up the world for the rest of us. Of course, we humans have screwed up the world even further after they had.

Adam and Eve lived 6,000 years ago, but humans have been on the earth for around 200,000 years. How do you jive this?

Human's have not been around for that long. The earth is older than 6,000 years old, but humans are not.

As soon as you can offer conclusive proof that men have been on earth for 200,000 years... then I'll answer your question.
