How can there be any argument for annihilation? If everyone who sinned would be simply annihilated,
then there would be no need for the Gospel, nor the Lake of Fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.
You see no use in living by the principles Jesus taught that we are to embrace as a saved/born again person?

Cognitive Dissonance -
The term cognitive dissonance is used to describe the mental discomfort that results from holding two conflicting beliefs, values, or attitudes. People tend to seek consistency in their attitudes and perceptions, so this conflict causes feelings of unease or discomfort.

This inconsistency between what people believe and how they behave motivates people to engage in actions that will help minimize feelings of discomfort. People attempt to relieve this tension in different ways, such as by rejecting, explaining away, or avoiding new information.
Yahshua,

I was raised in a denomination that taught eternal torment. Then was in a nondenominational church that inferred it without preaching it, and after that a denomination that believed in eternal torment but did not 'outright' teach it. It was only after I prayed for God to reveal to me the mystery of the gospel that the scales fell off my eyes. I was living with this incongruity-- I would ask myself questions, such as How can it be 'eternal torment' --does death not mean death? Does destroy not mean destroy? Did Christ really pay the penalty? Honestly when I asked these questions it took a matter of MINUTES to discover the truth- simply by reading the scripture and comparing scripture to scripture -by taking the time to investigate it for myself.

Annihilation is good news for atheists, it gives them exactly what they want. They die and they cease to exist.

Forever is also disproved as meaning without end several places in the Bible, and I see you have already pointed at least one of them out. People must not confuse God's eternal Self-existence with words that simply mean "for an age." But they do. There are several passages that show this and they can be repeatedly shown and then the one who has read them will turn around and speak as if they never saw them! We have people saying living as a born again person is of no use if the wicked are simply destroyed. How short sighted is their vision? Oh, and let us not forget, then the wicked get what they want! To simply cease to exist, as if anyone in their right mind wants that :oops::rolleyes:

"Broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and MANY there be which go in thereat.
"And narrow is the way that leadeth unto life, and FEW there be that find it."

Matthew 25:46
Jesus said the wicked
"go into everlasting punishment," and what this everlasting punishment
consists of is explained by Paul in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9: that when Jesus shall be revealed
from heaven, the wicked shall be "punished with everlasting destruction."

Hebrews 10:27
"Judgment and fiery indignation shall devour the adversary."

Jesus said in Matthew 10:28 "... Fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell."

Some must think Jesus gives false testimony.

Philippians 3:19 regarding the fleshly-minded --
"Their end is destruction."

2 Peter 2:12
"These, as natural brute beasts . . . shall utterly perish in their own corruption."

Psalm 37:20
"The wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the
fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away."

Malachi 4:1 --
"For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea,
and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn
them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch."

Psalm 145:20 --
"The Lord preserveth all them that love Him, but all the wicked will He destroy."

The best known and most loved Scripture of all time states the wicked perish.

The link is simple and clear--I seem to have to be meticulous--no one seems to want to investigate the truth for themselves. It's like the way they capture a monkey is to put a fruit into a gourd--the monkey refuses to let go of the fruit, therefore is captured. In the same way you all refuse to let go of this false doctrine of demons, even though it makes God out to be Evil.

it is sad that we would give you respect and not agree with your position but WE have not said you embrace doctrines of demons.

Then I get in trouble because I see that as weak and cowardly to say such a thing to people you would not say it ones face. You to I will place on ignore so I do not get in trouble. But I will warn you, That kind of talk will have you banned sooner than later. NOT annihilated but banned :).

Funny that…

I was speaking with an atheist (I don’t think a true atheist exists btw) about this very thing, Hell, heaven, eternal damnation, etc. He brought it up.
Any way, he made a snide comment to the effect of “Well, you won’t have to worry about me, I’ll be burning forever in Hell…”. Something like that. I said, “No you won’t“ and I explained the scriptures related to what will happen when a person, not in Christ, dies, including annihilation.
He was taken aback. He never heard that sound, Christians were always ready to condemn him to Hell before he got there.
He had more questions. We ended up talking for quite some time. He checks in from time to time. He likes to tell me what he’s been up to and how his family is fairing. He’ll often ask for my perspective about his issues. He knows where I come from and my belief but he never objects to the things I say to him. I consider him a friend.

How would I be banned? I have taken the term from a scripture verse.

"Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and doctrine of demons."--2nd Timothy 4:2

We know that any false teaching that is opposed to God and His word is "the doctrine of demons"--to attribute evil to God is the 'doctrine of demons'. I am not calling anyone here a demon--the ones deceived aren't aware they are deceived until they at some point see the truth. As one believer pointed out to me the first lie Satan told mankind was "You shall not surely die."

So you are seeing that those who are condemned must cease to be entirely.
Yes.

Otherwise they would still be spiritually alive?
The Bible says that trespasses and sins against God cause spiritual death.

Proverbs 8:36, Romans 6:23, Colossians 2:13, Ephesians 2:1-3, 1 John 5:12, etc.

I am seeing that, contrary to the doctrine of eternal torment, that the unrighteous will be destroyed with a death sentence.

I do not see how anyone, in any way, remains alive forever in hell to experience conscious torment.

I'm having a hard time comprehending why some Christians believe our Heavenly Father would torture His creation for all eternity. Is it even conceivable to some of you that a benevolent merciful God would do anything that UNmerciful? Think of the never-ending screaming! Is that the kind of thing a parent would do to his child? Not a chance; there’s no way.

Why was hell made? For Lucifer and the angels that rebelled against God with him.
Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft the word says. Rebellion ( disobedience and unbelief are two grievous sins.)
God created Lucifer with all the beauty we can never imagine and a voice to sing awesome praise to him.
Pride got in the way then rebellion.

Revelations tells of the angel that keeps the key where Satan will go and then be loosed after the thousand years to pull more into destruction with him.

If you believe ETERNAL,means forever til there is no more then why would you believe the wicked and ungodly will escape the ETERNAL torment in the lake of fire where the fire is NOT quenched nor the worm dieth.

Why serve him if when we are unbelieving and disobedient the suffering will ONLY be for a short time then its over.
Yes God is merciful and loving but he is also a God of wrath!

Here you go Laura, there are multiple scriptures in what I've already written in this thread.

Maybe you need to stop being taught by man and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you through the word.
Its a wonderful experience to have him illuminate what God is saying!

Dear CSI,

I'm sorry that I used that bit in the verse--some people may not be familiar with it and I can see how it sounded harsh--please accept my apologies--it was the doctrine itself and not anyone in this thread I was referring to. I don't want this thread to turn into North and South. Hopefully we all desire to bring forth Truth, ultimately to glorify the Lord. Blessings to you, Laura

Actually, you are mistaken--you must have missed my early thread--I was taught by MAN what you believe--it was only after I prayed to understand after seeing the incongruity of it that I saw the truth--the truth that had been right there in scripture the whole time

God can't understand how one could reject HIS only Son. And think He would stand by and not do what HE said HE would in place of HIS Holiness and Word. God when HE judges is right no matter what HE does. To be merciful is to accept His grace Through the Lord Jesus Christ. To be foolish would be to reject it then try to appeal to HIS Love to get out of eternal everlasting torment after disrespecting HIS SON who is the only way for salvation. By that Logic

it can be applied to the devil. God created the devil yet he will be tormented day and night. The devil has already be judged he is just out on borrowed time. God is so wrong for doing this to the devil?

They‘re addicted to doctrine and scripture but they don’t know the One who wrote it. They’re defending their denomination, really. They like to be right at the expense of growing in the Lord. I used to be the same way.

They like to “warn” you and throw out words like “holiness” and suggest you need the Spirit of God to show you what they believe. It’s all quite predictable.

From all of creation. God will be All in all when it’s all done.

“And when all things shall be subdued unto Him, then shall the Son Himself also be subject unto Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.”
