I posted this thread and thought I was going to get a list of the common things the churches fight other churches over like speaking in tongues. Reading other threads, I find that the churches can fight over just about anything. All such in fighting I feel is taking people away from Jesus. There is no agreement even in the church about salvation, the gospel, baptism, blessing, the return of Christ and many other things. At least people remember what Easter is for, and even then, I think they’d forget if it didn’t fall as a holiday on the calendar.

Something to think about....

This is only sent in love and respect to all so please forgive me ahead of time for making this controversial but I find it difficult to understand when everyone here says they do not find anything controversial in the bible. The reason is that there is currently more than * 44,000 different Christian religions all proffessing to have the one true faith.

* Source, 44,000 in year 2012; Status of Global Mission 2013 Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary ; 33,000 in year 2000; World Christian Encyclopedia by Barrett, Kurian, Johnson Oxford Univ Press, 2nd edition; see also wiki linked.

This is in itself a controversy because according to the bible there is only one true faith. How do you know you have the one true faith if 99% of Christianity is a false teachingwhen the bible says in the last days there will be many false teachers all proffessing to have the one true faith? Seem many are going to be dissappointed when Jesus returns (Matthew 7:22-23).

God bless

That allegation should be taken WITH A POUND OF SALT.

There are no more than about two dozen Christian non-Catholic denominations, probably more like 20. And if they leave each other alone, then there is no controversy.

Here are the major denominations:
  1. Lutherans
  2. Presbyterians
  3. Reformed
  4. Anglicans
  5. Methodists
  6. Pentecostals
  7. Baptists
  8. Apostolic
  9. Church of God
  10. Church of Christ
  11. Unitarians
  12. Orthodox
  13. Free Evangelicals
  14. Mennonites/Anabaptists
  15. Quakers
  16. Brethren
  17. Restorationists
  18. Seventh Day Adventists
  19. Christian Science
  20. Messianic Jews

It is not an allegation they are factual consensus. 33,000 different Christian faiths were recorded in the year 2000 and 44,000 in 2012 and growing.

Now let's consider this for a moment. Let's say there are 10 and not 44,000 + different Christian religious faiths today as shown in these consensus, if there is only ONE true faith how are you going to find the right one? What is at controversy here is the different beliefs as they are not in agreement. Yet according to God's word there is only one true faith therefore the others are following false teachings. Something to think about.

God bless

Since I have shown you the major divisions, just ignore these statistics. Polls and surveys mean nothing.

And no one needs to have a controversy. If they do not agree with a certain doctrine, they can always find a church of denomination which is more compatible.

Actually with all respect you have not shown anything to be honest. The point of my post and the questions you have avoided was only to show that within Chrsitianity itself is a major controversy on what people believe to be true or not true when according to the scriptures there is only one true faith. My point here is how are you going to find what is the true church? These things were fortold by Jesus and the Apostles as one of the signs before the second coming. 44,000 by concensus or 20 main Church branches of these does not really make much difference to the points being made and does not change the fact that there is only one true faith and the majority being false teachings when there is only one true faith according to the scriptures.

God bless

Differences within christianity arent controversial its just there is such diversity within the body of Christ, and people at different levels of understanding.

Some have gifts others dont have and vice versa but the same spirit operates in them all. GOd distributes them how He wants.

I dont have a problem with that...the body is made up of many parts.

So what you mean by controversy isnt so, there can be schisms etc but you need to clarify what you asking. What comes to mind when you say controversy is something by ellen white who was sda. She was referring to the sdas interpetation of the endimes being controversial. According to them, the end times started in 1844. Which is a while ago now lol. I wouldnt worry about it though, as the sdas have some strange doctrines. Its not a controversy if you dont agree with it. Some of these things you just need to take with a grain of salt and check the Bible if you not sure. I know the sdas interpetation of things get bandied about a lot in christian circles but its not actually the gospel. The book she wrote was called 'the great controversy'. I havent read it, i had come across it once but frankly God didnt want me to waste my time on it. I dont read mormon tracts or jw bibles either. Many people want to believe extra stuff that isnt in the Bible, because religion and man made rules to followseems easier than having a real living relationship with God. You can do it just for an hour a week instead of 24/7

Hi Lanolin nice to meet you.

Please forgive me but I do not believe your post to be true for a second. How is it not controversial if someone professes the Christian faith but has a different belief as to what the Chrsitian faith is? According to the scriptures there is only one true faith and in the last days there would be many false teachers of this faith. How do you know your in the right faith or the one that leads many away from God foretold by Jesus or the Apostles? Something to think about.

God bless

Um because the things the OP mentioned are secondary issues to believing in Jesus and his resurrection, which is the basic gospel message anyone who prefesses his name believes in. Also faith without deeds is dead, so you know a christian by their fruits.

She wasnt talking about the gospel, just differences between churches. I dont find differences a big deal, everyone is different, thats how God made us unique.

You look at creation, there is such abundance and diversity. Even amongst twins, there will be differences. I know cos my brothers are twins. Do they think exactly alike? Nope.

Even in the nt Paul allowed for difference. One man thinks the sabbath is holy, the other regards all days as sabbaths. One eats meats, the other only eats herbs.

What about tongues, does everyone speak in tongues? Nope.

I guess, I tried to post a controversial thread recently about Christianity and it got removed probably because my profile says that I’m unsure about whether I’m a Christian or not. So I started this thread because I wanted to ask you all as individuals... what part or parts of Christianity do you find controversial?
I struggled as a young believer, and I find many Christians struggle today with regards to the role of the law in relationship with the Gospel regarding our salvation and/or walk.

Whichever church holds to Bible truth and practice without introducing the doctrines of men. Acts 2 shows us what a true Christian church should look like.
