I've had this on my mind for days. ..
What is Worship?

I look at scripture that says worship in spirit and truth. To clarify, not encouraging a debate between doctrines, just the command to Worship. What does it really mean? What does it mean to you?

I'm wanting to know God more. How do I worship? What does the Bible say on this? Is it more than reading, praying, being thankful? Praising? Adoration?

Yes, singing! I believe God likes singing from a heart filled with love. He created singing!

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

Worship is to OBEY whatever God wants you to do. If it is write a song, David did so with Psalms. If it is to suffer lots for the sake of the Lord, Paul did so. If it is to be humilited before the whole earth to do something really weird, like to lie on your one side for three hundred and ninety days, one day for every yar of sin of the nation of Israel, then you do it. Ezekiel did.

Also like when Paul and Jesus went to cities where they knew they would be harmed, but they feared not. They still did what Father wanted them to do. I say worship is to do whatever Father God wants done. If he says repent, then epentance is our worship. If He says sing, then singing is the worship. worship is EVERY will of God being done.

That's right Cobus. To look around you with intention, to see a need somewhere of doing good. Sometimes strangers just begin telling me their problems and I listen. I tell them to trust God and pray about it, tell them what He's done in my life. Seems like it's getting fewer and farther between that people in real life want to talk about God. Like everyone's so caught up in daily problems, they don't take time to think about God.

Hello,
Worship is not really a command.
In the O.T. it was a huiman organised meeting ....like Church.
That went out under the N.T. and the end of worship in a place,
like the Temple and the mountain.
Worship is spontaneous and is a result of an upsurge of happiness
and then gratitude to GOD and Christ for what is happening in the inner man.
The Spirit of GOD is in such a person.

To get the Spirit of GOD we must go to Christ, calling on him, from under the water,
in baptism for forgiveness and help for a good life anf Jesus will respond and the relationship starts.
Correct baptism is an essential step to CHrist and GOD or dead ended faith remains.

Obey the Apostles and all will fall in place and you will be illumination from Jesus.

1 Cor.10
[25] the foolishness of God (like baptism) is wiser than men;
and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
[26] For ye see your calling, brethren,
how that not many wise men (well educated) after the flesh,
not many mighty, not many noble, are called (ny GOD to his son)
The people of GOD respect him and his Ministers
and joyfully submit to his will knowing that there are many blessings and greatness soon after.

Godspeed.

I agree Wordsponge

“We ought not to worship God in a half-hearted sort of way; as if it were now our duty to bless God, but we felt it to be a weary business, and we would get it through as quickly as we could, and have done with it; and the sooner the better. No, no; ‘All that is within me, bless his holy name.’ Come, my heart, wake up, and summon all the powers which wait upon thee! Mechanical worship is easy, but worthless. Come rouse yourself, my brother! Rouse thyself, O my own soul!” (Spurgeon)

Another post offered the word "bless" means to kneel down as correct translation. That makes more sense. It gives instruction.

Also, I chose to quote Spurgeon here because I related to that excerpt. Often I've seen people looking at their watches, about to go to sleep during a sermon. Even the pastor promising at the start that he wouldn't go past 12:00. It just all seemed so empty.

Our lives are meant to be live in worship to God. Our actions and words, our relationships with others should bring honour to God. That verse that says to 'worship in spirit and in truth', kinda relates to been present with God, and not been afraid to be honest with God. Since God knows our hearts and thought any way, He just wants to hear it from us.
I've been to this place where they even say that even if you're angry, telling God about it, is a form of worship.
Have a look through some of the Psalms. In some parts, the Psalmist starts of been angry, but by the end of the Psalm, they are praising God for His goodness.

Thanks. Haven't read Psalms in a while.
I'm thinking of compiling different notebooks that each have a theme. Sorta like as it relates to the many characteristics of God, Also, I'm looking to find some local people interested in a small Bible study. I know of 2 others that might be interested. I'm just basically wanting to change the routine, maybe gain perspective.

alexis,

ths is the word worship - in relation to God; from (for example):

Matthew 2
1Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, 2"Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him."

proskuneó: to do reverence to
Original Word: προσκυνέω
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: proskuneó
Phonetic Spelling: (pros-koo-neh'-o)
Short Definition: I worship
Definition: I go down on my knees to, do obeisance to, worship.

4352 proskynéō (from 4314 /prós, "towards" and kyneo, "to kiss") – properly, to kiss the ground when prostrating before a superior; to worship, ready "to fall down/prostrate oneself to adore on one's knees" (DNTT); to "do obeisance" (BAGD).

["The basic meaning of 4352 (proskynéō), in the opinion of most scholars, is to kiss. . . . On Egyptian reliefs worshipers are represented with outstretched hand throwing a kiss to (pros-) the deity" (DNTT, 2, 875,876).

4352 (proskyneō) has been (metaphorically) described as "the kissing-ground" between believers (the Bride) and Christ (the heavenly Bridegroom). While this is true, 4352 (proskynéō) suggests the willingness to make all necessary physical gestures of obeisance.]
