"I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." Mark 1:8

and this...

"for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." Acts 1:5

John answered and said to them all, "As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Luke 3:16

then...
And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. Acts 2:3

and this...

The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: 1Peter 3:21 KJV
The same verse in the International Standard Version

Baptism, which is symbolized by that water, now saves you also, not by removing dirt from the body, but by asking God for a clear conscience based on the resurrection of Jesus, the Messiah,
1Peter 3:21

I want to put my own interpretation of these scriptures so bad I cant stand it! hahahha. But I need to see what others with some grey stuff between there ears have to say. What do these scriptures say? To be fair. Compare to this.

Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.Acts 2:38 NIV

Anyway, what do these scriptures say? Whats the story about baptism? Oh, and do we really need sir Thomas Aquinas or Calvin to tell us, or can we do this on our own? I know God must have gave me this grey matter for some reason. Lol?

OK, my interpretation.....here it goes...

In order to be saved from your sins then one must be baptised to "wash away" your sins.

I agree. And we are given a clear conscience and no more guilt. A new way of seeing and a new way of doing life.

I know this has been argued in as many ways as there are people. I cannot argue your stance. I will not speak against your faith, I personally am shown that there are two gifts. One is the baptism of Repentance concerning the flesh in the Baptism by water, and the second gift is being baptized by the Holy Spirit. The water we see is to sustain life which is temporary (flesh); and is the very image of living waters which came from Christ's mouth, which is the sustaining waters of eternal life according to the Spirit which we cannot see. One is the image of the other. One is temporary, and one is eternal. We could not be taught of things eternal, without the evidence before us according to the things we see of God's creation. The first gift is the Baptism of Repentance speaks of our Lord's grace because of things of sin that we asked to be forgiven of. The second gift is of the Holy Spirit which comes after we have repented. These are two gifts. The latter cannot be done until the first has taken place. Thank you for asking the question. It gives us opportunity to search who we are and why we are that way in God's sight.

Personally I think your sins are forgiven when you accept christ. Otherwise you run the risk of saying well yeah they accepted christ but they died on their way to getting baptized...so oops, guess we lost that one...

I personally think that water baptism is a public statement of faith. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit, which is given by Christ ma come before, during or after the water baptism. It's most definitely not something anyone can do on their own. Even Jesus Christ Himself received the water baptism for repentance, demonstrating that even He had this Holy obligation - in spite of the fact that He had nothing to repent of. Christ sends the Holy Spirit to whom He will when He sees fit. God alone knows the human heart.

I love when people throw that out.

People accept Christ before they are baptized, and in the unlikely event that happened I am just God is a just one and would be a little understanding.

it is right that Jesus approved of John's baptism But John himself said Jesus' baptism is better than his.

Matthew 3:11
I baptise you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Water baptism is the baptism of REPENTANCE.

most do not even know what that means. most are just shallow thinking of people and think of it only as skin deep. just washing away of dirt that a bath will do just as well. WHITE WASHED TOMBS.

it saddens my heart so much false dead sermons going on in the world. the preaching that kills from lips of dead preachers pretending to be ambassadors of Christ but sinful and enslaved to their master Satan. twice a son of hell they make their converts. leading a whole world full of delusions and death and lies and false security. NO TRUE REPENTANCE. NO FRUITS WORTHY OF IT. no just rotten trees, tares, stony hearts and bird infested minds.

It just saddens my soul and makes me weep rivers for the lost, the deluded, the deceived.

What is the baptism of water? REPENTANCE. it is when you are face flat on the floor with the conviction of your soul how YOU ARE A SINNER. It is when you lay down your WHOLE life for GOD in exchange for the one precious pearl of salvation.

It is when you STOP chasing after your lust, STOP trying to control your life, STOP making excuses for why you still fulfill your lust. STOP trying to place everything in the world between you and the voice of GOD calling out to YOU. it is when YOU STOP listening to the world, listening to gospel songs, doing works to try and earn your salvation and LISTEN and PRAY to GOD with your WHOLE HEART words to this effect:

LORD SAVE ME. I can not do it alone. I am a sinner. I am sorry for everything I have done to grieve you. take it all my happiness, my sadness, my controlling nature, my faults, what I think are my strengths, take all of me OH LORD I trust YOU. I love YOU. FORGIVE ME.

that is what Repentance is. if you have not felt this godly sorrow and give your WHOLE life to Christ and placed it in GOD"S control then you are deceiving yourself and are but a whitewashed tomb with the appearance of godliness but denying the power therein.

no works, elegant words or anything but JESUS as LORD and Savior can wash you clean of this sin free you of this sorrow, free you of your fear of God by his imputed righteousness and HIS work on the cross that subjugates demons and all the powers of darkness and sin under HIs feet.

Baptism of the Holy Spirit? that is when you are born again. When GOD places in you a new heart and spirit filled with JOY and the ability to fulfill the law out of love overflowing love of GOD you will be able to help others see God's light in this world and give them unconditional love as God gives to all His children.

May you be blessed. goodnight

good answer but I got a different question now. Whats this I wont speak against your faith stuff. Are we or are we not talking about "truth" here? Is it or isnt it "important?" If I see a doctrine being practiced and I know its wrong I feel compelled to say something. I dont want to bash no one over the head but didnt Jesus say "I am the truth?" and how can we say we know Christ if we dont know the truth let alone OBEY it?

Also I didnt say what my stance was on the subject. Lol, I only put the scriptures out there for you all to interpret because I want to see how peoples minds can mess up such a basic doctrine.

The first scripture shows that there is a baptism of WATER and there is also one that comes from the Holy Spirit who is God. So Ill ask once again.Which one saves? Water? Water saves you? Or does God save you? You give no answer. No scripture references. Anyhow dont let me step on anybodies toes. Its all just ok. its all good is that it? hmm. Im glad Jesus didnt have that attitude. He told the truth and got nailed to a cross for it.

hmm, thank you for posting but I dont think I saw an answer that WAS an answer. You all should be politicians. Lol. Offended?

The point is that there are alot of Christians out there that claim WATER BAPTISM is nessesary for salvation. This is an IMPORTANT doctrine because it brings into question the depravity of man and if there is some thing MAN can do to EARN salvation. This is eroneous. Salvation is from God alone!

Faith plus NOTHING equals salvation.

That is why its called Grace. Grace a free gift of God that we dont deserve. So I ask again, is WATER BAPTISM nessesary for salvation?

Baptism of the Holy Ghist is the born again baptism. One is water and one born of the Spirit. Born of the Spirit means your born in the Holy Ghost.
