Alexander the Great

In 334 B.C. Alexander the Great commenced his ambitious project of conquering the Persian Empire. He subjugated Syria and then turned southward, down the Mediterranean coast.

Sidon and some of the other coastal cities meekly submitted to the Greek warrior. Tyre, however, refused to capitulate and dug in. Their hope of victory was grounded in the fact that the island-city was well fortified and Alexander had no navy.

Not to be out-maneuvered, Alexander decided to build a road-bridge from the mainland to the island, a half-mile away. Dredging up the ruins of old, mainland Tyre, he constructed a causeway, some 200 hundred feet wide. This would accommodate his war machines to be used in battering down the eastern wall protecting the city.

Likely the conquest would not have been achieved strictly by foot soldiers. But Alexander was able to secure ships from Sidon, Cyprus, and some of his Greek allies.

Thus, attacking from the east by land, and the west by sea, the brilliant young Greek commander finally took Tyre. He achieved in seven months what Nebuchadnezzar was unable to accomplish in thirteen years.

It is reported that 8,000 Tyrians were killed in the assault, another 2,000 subsequently executed (by crucifixion on the beach), and 30,000 were sold into slavery (Fleming, p. 64; Usher, pp. 223-226). Alexander lost only some 400 men.

The island city does not exist today. Apparently it
bq. “sank below the surface of the Mediterranean, in the same subsidence that submerged the port of Caesarea that Herod had built up with such expense and care. All that remains of it is a series of black reefs offshore from Tyre, which surely could not have been there in the first and second millennia B.C., since they pose such a threat to navigation. The promontory that now juts out from the coastline probably was washed up along the barrier of Alexander’s causeway, but the island itself broke off and sank away when the subsidence took place” (Archer, 277).

While there appears to have been some revival of the area in subsequent years, in time it was hammered over and over by invading powers (Newton, 174-175). The old Tyre, the real Tyre, was but a memory. The modern Tyre (Sur) bears no relation to the ancient city that fell under the curse of God.

It is utterly amazing that several of the prophets, writing centuries before the actual events, were able to foretell the destruction of wicked Tyre. Those interested in pursuing an in-depth study of these prophecies in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Zechariah may consult the works of Rollin, Newton, and Keith.

This coin is Roman, not Babylonian though

Money changers performed a key service when they converted the varieties of local coinage into the required tribute of silver shekels or half-shekels of Tyre (Tosefta Ketubbot 13:20, Exod 30:11-16). Many writers have suggested that the Tyre currency was preferred because it did not defy the Decalogue by depicting the graven image of a foreign king, and that is true. But the Tyre coins portray a pagan god of Tyre, Melqarth-Herakles—which was certainly even more offensive!

Revelation 17:4 - The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her immorality, (5) and on her forehead a name {was} written, a mystery, "BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."

Finally, someone who is making sense. To sell Rome short would be suicidal. The RCC has been a viable business for over 1500 years. Catholic means universal. They will stop at nothing to achieve this goal. To put a jesuit pope in power, for the first time I might ad, should scare every Protestant in the world! This proves that Jesus is coming very soon. The dark ages are coming back but this time on a world wide scale. To deny this is also suicide. Watch and pay close attention to what the pope has been doing, he is doing much more cinister things behind the scenes. Ecumenism will destroy Christianity. To unite with babylon and put doctrine aside for the sake of unity is the death of Christianity. The pope is the beast of revelation 13, the one that comes up out of the sea. Sea, or waters represent multitudes of people according to Revelation:17:15: "And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues." The pope even uses the word sea to describe their following.

seriously - if we really look into how far the Israelites had fallen by Jesus' day, there'd be no question why all the wrath against her passages are there.

His love came in the Person of Jesus and He was for the most part rejected.
open participation in His death.
given al-l-l-l-l that HISTORY of theirs they had, it's terrifyingly crazy that so many would not know Him or even have him killed.
I guess their leaders had forgotten to teach them history.

for example:

the UNITED STATES appears to be falling into what may well end up being a facist police state, and it could happen in 8 years.
not saying that's Trump's fault, I don't think it's him personally - far more sinister and broader powers than him at work but I reckon americans recognize that by now.
the fascist (corp/govt combine) police (to combat anarchy) state looks like it might come in through the relentless spread of anarchy (controlled).

maybe lots of history would help right now.
anyways.

Please do not take offense to this but all the guessing about who the "antichrist" is does not make sense. God would not give us His holy word the KJV bible just to rely on our finite human reasoning to guess at anything He wants us to know. Especially something as important as end time prophecy. It is all very well defined but far too many of us, like I use to do, have preconceived opinions that we were raised up believing. It is much harder to unlearn something then it is to learn something.

1.Both were attacked by huge 'hailstones'

Revelation 16:19 - Babylon the great was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of His fierce wrath. (20) And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. (21) And huge hailstones, about one hundred pounds (literally: one talent) each, came down from heaven upon men; and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, because its plague was extremely severe.

The word for 'hailstones' is chalaza, which is used only three times in the New Testament, each in the same way. It does not specifically refer to frozen water, although I do not know if this is the exclusive use of the word in the Greek. In Revelation, it may be figurative or descriptive, referring simply to huge stones falling from the sky. Strong's states that the word is probably derived from Chalao, which means to let down or drop.

Josephus relates that Jerusalem was pounded by stones from catapults, each stone weighing a talent, that smashed the defenses of the city.(War of the Jews, Book 5, Ch 6:3).

Please read and pray and understand Daniel 2. The last kingdom of the image which the king saw was Rome. Rome will be the last kingdom to rule before Jesus comes, or as interpreted by Daniel himself the rock that is cut out without hands is Jesus that will smite the image and it is destroyed. This is the second coming.

that's right.
and it happened just that way.
(there aint no "two irons legs = 2500 year gap" thingee either)

Daniel's metal man is an excellent way to see that it was fulfilled.

Rome will be the last kingdom to rule before Jesus comes, or as interpreted by Daniel himself the rock that is cut out without hands is Jesus that will smite the image and it is destroyed. This is the second coming.
no it isn't.
He DID smite the image on it's toes....the early Christian church (stone cut from the mountain) inadvertently aided in the soon desolation of Imperial Rome.

suggestion: trying closing out the gaps. see if you get peace from it.

Babylon:

Revelation 17:1 - Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, "Come here, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, (2) with whom the kings of the earth committed {acts of} immorality, and those who dwell on the earth were made drunk with the wine of her immorality." (5) and on her forehead a name {was} written, a mystery, "BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."

Jerusalem:

Ezekeiel 6:9 - "Then those of you who escape will remember Me among the nations to which they will be carried captive, how I have been hurt by their adulterous hearts which turned away from Me, and by their eyes which played the harlot after their idols; and they will loathe themselves in their own sight for the evils which they have committed, for all their abominations."

Ezekiel 16: 15 - "But you trusted in your beauty and played the harlot because of your fame, and you poured out your harlotries on every passer-by who might be {willing.} (16) "You took some of your clothes, made for yourself high places of various colors and played the harlot on them, which should never come about nor happen.

Jeremiah 3:1 - God says, "If a husband divorces his wife and she goes from him and belongs to another man, Will he still return to her? Will not that land be completely polluted? But you are a harlot {with} many lovers; Yet you turn to Me," declares the LORD. (2) "Lift up your eyes to the bare heights and see; Where have you not been violated? By the roads you have sat for them Like an Arab in the desert, and you have polluted a land with your harlotry and with your wickedness. (3) "Therefore the showers have been withheld, And there has been no spring rain. Yet you had a harlot's forehead; You refused to be ashamed. (4) "Have you not just now called to Me, 'My Father, You are the friend of my youth? … (6) Then the LORD said to me in the days of Josiah the king, "Have you seen what faithless Israel did? She went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and she was a harlot there. … (8) "And I saw that for all the adulteries of faithless Israel, I had sent her away and given her a writ of divorce, yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear; but she went and was a harlot also.

I agree that there is no "the antichrist". But most of the evangelical, world are waiting on one and trying to guess who it might be.

The destruction of the image is the end of the world. The iron and the clay in the feet represent church and state combining. This will never happen as iron cannot cleave to clay. The church and state of Daniel's interpretation is the catholic church represented by the pope stepping up onto the throne of the Caesars. This study is a wonderful study. I will start a new thread with it later. But read Daniel 2 and know that the whole vision of the king is explained in the book of Daniel.

Preterism gets history very well, but does not understand 1 thing very well - namely: - The Second Coming.
Look:

Luke 9 :
26 Those who are ashamed of me and of my words, of them the Son of Man will be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27 But truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.

What do we see? We see 3 Glories.

The Glory of the Son, the Glory Of The Father, and the Glory of the angels.

What does Mark tell us?

38 Those who are ashamed of me and of my words[j] in this adulterous and sinful generation, of them the Son of Man will also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

That means that when Jesus judged Jerusalem, he came in his Father's glory.

His second Coming, when he came in HIS glory, OBVIOUSLY had not yet happened!

This accords with the Father telling Jesus he would put Jesus' enemies under his feet for him.

I've never really considered Islam PW.

I don't know if it fits Revelation's timelines.

Isn't Babylon the Mother of false religious systems?
Where is Babylon and what is the religion of those who live there? It is called "Mystery Babylon" for a reason. It is not called, "Mystery Jerusalem" or "Mystery Rome."

Islam's manner of worship is the same as those of the original Babylon.

[SUP]5 [/SUP]that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up...

What other religion uses music as the call for its followers to face the same place, bow down and worship? They all face Mecca, where their image (the holy Kaaba), is set up.
