If you look closely at that passage Paul makes a clear distinction between meal time and taking the Lords supper.

1 Corinthians 11:22 (LEB): For do you not have houses for eating and drinking? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who do not have anything? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you? In this I will not praise you!

He then goes on and explains the Lord's supper.
He's giving instruction for "when they come together" and when they observe the Lord's Supper together. This would have been the church in Corinth on any given day they decided to congregate.. perhaps as many as 200 people. This does not preclude the Lord's Supper in households, where it was most common to meet in smaller groups more frequently. Had the early church met like most Christians do today (in a specific place on specific days) it most certainly would have been wiped out by the Romans and removed from the area completely.

Matthew 26:26-28
New International Version
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Mark 14:22 While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is my body.” 23 Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.
Luke 22:14-23
New American Bible (Revised Edition)
14 When the hour came, he took his place at table with the apostles. 15 He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer, 16 for, I tell you, I shall not eat it [again] until there is fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” 17 Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and said, “Take this and share it among yourselves; 18 for I tell you [that] from this time on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.” 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you.
1 Corinthians 11:23-25
New American Bible (Revised Edition)
23 For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, 24 and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

From these passages we learn:
Jesus instituted this Supper for believers to eat and drink often.
Jesus gives those who commune His body and blood in, with and under the bread and wine.
Jesus gives the very price of redemption, his body and blood, so the recipient receives the victories He won-- forgiveness of sins and heaven.
Jesus invites to to do this often to remember what He did for us. This helps us to value His sacrifice and benefits. It encourages us to know Christ is with us in our Christian life.
your question is answered if you keep reading what’s there

For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, 24 and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.””

Paul goes on to explain what it means to the church and how they should perceive it and how intricate and important it is to oir faith

“For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:26-32‬

usually when the scriptire creates a thought that makes us think about what something really means To us , if we keep reading it’s well explained. The apostles were explaining what things meant

Is participation in the Lord's Supper essential or optional?
_
If you mean by optional that its not necessary to salvation then i would say you can be saved with out ever receiving... However it is directed for us to do by Jesus so I wonder, Why would anyone opt out? Sometimes I think we ask the wrong question concerning things.

Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper to memorialize the crucifixion he endured
for the sins of the world.

"For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's
death" (1Cor 11:26)

Why didn't he institute a memorial for his resurrection?

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26:26-28‬ ‭KJ

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:23-26‬

This is an apostle who received the hilt ghost teachkngs the church about what Jesus taught this is an example of what Jesus said being fulfilled through an apostle

“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:23-32‬

the question is do we believe what Jesus said , are we willing to let Jesus teach us through believing the gospel? And Sonora more about “ believers want to be part of what communion offers through faith the assurance of doing what Jesus said for the reason he said considering as we partake

Jesus suffered and died because of sin , examining our own selves and finding repentance for whatever we might have done , making sure we are honoring what we believe he has done for us on sufferonf on our behalf and dying in our place

in the law the Passover lamb for instance that causes death to pass them over and not Jill them in Egypt , was first sacrificed and then it’s blood was used as protection but the flesh was then eaten hastily and readily d God had told them if they did this death would not touch them as it passed through the land

The old testsment is a pattern so we can understand the New Testament teachings communion is about the belief of Jesus dying for our sins breaking his body as bread for us so we can live and pouring out his life giving blood on a torture device made to kill criminals in Rome called the crucifix , it’s about us remembering this and keeping it in e forefront of our mind and heart and remembering that how we live now is meant to reflect what he’s done in giving us a Holy Spirit

if Jesus establishes anything for his disciples to do or not do it should be clear soldered important and acceptable

but “ required “ requirement comes with hearing once we hear and learn what communion is for it then becomes sort of irrelevant for us to not partake or try to ask if it’s necassary or just becomes part of faith d act of faith and remembrance of Jesus and his sacrifice for us personally and everyone we know or will ever meet

our accountability rises with our understanding

Your right about that last part for sure.

some haven’t heard and don’t understand things that others have heard and learned it’s just that we are all at different levels of perception and understanding

we’re accountable for what we have head and believe and know of the gospel a lot of pastors preach irrelevance and worldly thkngs so they never teach their flock what’s really in e gospel

I’ve attended churches in my long years before that I found out didn’t even believe in communion they thought it was a new age invention added by man later and wasnt part of the gospel at all

it’s astounding how many different things oreaxhers preach these days that are actually not in the Bible or even suggested me how they deny the things that are there plainly it wasn’t like that 50 years ago.

the common doctrine we hear now has changed a lot I mean a lot from just when I was a teenager in 50 some years I’ve seen How true this is and what a powerful effect it has on faith

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4:3-5‬ ‭

Even so that things like baptism for remission of sins plainly laid out in ten scripture becomes the question “ is baptism necassary for salvetion “ is communion needed ? Do I need to or take of the body and blood of Christ to be saved ? Need to hear what he said and do it ?

it’s almost like in Eden God said “ whatever you do don’t eat the fruit you’ll die for sure “

then the next thing you know the idea is floating around “ did God really say that ? Surely you won’t die if you eat the fruit he just said would surely kill you , that can’t be true and right , he just knows it’ll make you wise as gods he doesn’t want you to have it that’s the real truth , I’ve figured it out now so I can eat the fruit”

weapon our wheels alot questioning things that are irrelevant and plainly stated in the first case

I remember when I was just a kid going to Baptist church where they said baptism washes away sin. Now they say its symbolic. Jesus didnt do away with the symbolism of the old covenant only to establish more symbolism. The materialistic thinking of the post enlightenment era and modernism has set its roots into the church. By faith we believe that what is impossible to our minds and the physical world are absolute truths

“For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die:

There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:44‬ ‭

“And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

And as we have borne the image of the earthy,

we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:45, 49-50‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
‭‭John‬ ‭4:24‬ ‭

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you that believe not.
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63-64‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:17-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:35, 44‬ ‭

We are not being made for this eaerh again

“Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: …..Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”
‭‭John‬ ‭18:36-37‬ ‭KJV‬‬

he’s calling us into his kingdom and creating us to dwell there forever with him in a new creation void of flesh and blood.

amen he’s the reality of those patterns and figures in the law and prophets

faith needs us to hear the gospel and believe baptism for remission of sins is what the gospel establishes , to her about the offer God makes through baptism and get baptized believing what he established it means , is faith in action

we hear God teach us a truth in the gospel , and we let it sink in and believe it’s true , that will lead us to do it and lead us tomlewrn from Jesus and ct more and more as we get older and persevere in faith we learn to act much better and wiser in Christ as we abide in his word trusting it is true and keeping what we can keep pressing into more because we know it’s life and truth

but if we don’t hear about what’s written down well Never be able to believe it , then can never act in faith and do any of it because we believe him and hears his word

it’s like a circle that needs us to hear and consider his word on a regular basis so we can let the seeds of faith grow and change our lives for the better and change our hope for the best regarding repentance , righteousness and eternal
Life.

This is off the subject of Holy Communion but I think it's something that
needs saying from time to time.

Internet forums have given many of Christ's obscure followers a convenient
venue for sharing their time-won knowledge and experience with a
worldwide audience. For the Lord's sake, I highly recommend making an
effort to compose legible posts; neatly arranged, sensible, coherent, and
tidy.

Excessive bolding, underscoring, italics, twitter spelling, unnecessary
emogies, lack of adequate paragraphing, horrible grammar, a confusing
mixture of font styles and colors, and/or shouting with caps and big black
oversize letters, makes for tiresome clutter and annoying graffiti that leave a
bad impression.

Some people's posts resemble the obnoxious placards of worked-up
protesters and political activists; yelling, shrieking, and sometimes even
spraying spittle. They are beyond reason and objectivity in their desperation
to be taken seriously. Apparently they assume that if only they shout loud
enough, make themselves irritating enough, and hold out long enough;
maybe they'll get their point across and somebody will finally listen.

I rather suspect that some people regard forums as a canvas for painting
their comments instead of composing them. Well; that might be okay for
outsiders, they can scrawl and splash and be as messy as they want because
their comments don't matter anyway. But for those of us who honestly
believe ourselves to be representing God's son; that kind of penmanship is
unacceptable because it reflects on Christ and makes him look like his
followers are desperate kooks.
